Chapter 648 - 649: A Great Proposal!Chapter 648: Chapter 649: A Great Proposal!
Tianyan Sect.
Zhuji Peak.
Yanyun’s fingers tapped lightly. The tea set moved on its own, spiritual water pouring into the pot, with a gentle low flame already burning beneath. Now that she was a cultivator, many things that didn’t require her personal touch simply went undone by her own hands.
After finishing everything.
Yanyun finally spoke slowly. "White Uncle-Master, hasn’t your ascension been going on for quite a while now? It’s been so long and there hasn’t been even a peep."
"Tch. The path ahead is sealed. Even if you become an immortal, you still can’t get to the Immortal Realm." Bai Xuanling lounged lazily in her white jade chair, answering as though talking nonsense.
"You didn’t used to say that to shifu before."
"Isn’t it obvious? I was obviously just pulling your shifu’s leg for fun."
Faced with such a powerful and irrefutable reason, Yanyun could only smile helplessly.
She didn’t know about other sects, but here at Tianyan Sect, the position of sect master... truly didn’t spark even the slightest desire to compete for it.
Yanyun didn’t immediately continue with her questions.
Instead, she waited for the gentle flame to boil the spiritual tea, then personally poured a cup for Bai Xuanling.
Some things still deserved to be done by hand, and Yanyun would do them by hand.
After finishing that, Yanyun slowly asked.
"You’ve been secluding yourself on Zhuji Peak this whole time, not seeing anyone. Only Lingyu has seen you. You’ve already become an immortal, and you no longer have the mood issues from before. Secluding yourself and refusing visitors isn’t your style."
Bai Xuanling propped herself up, a faint smile at the corner of her mouth.
"By your logic, my style would be drawing my sword and going out to kill everyone I used to find annoying?"
Yanyun nodded calmly. "More or less. The people you used to dislike have all been sending letters to Tianyan Sect, wanting to clear up old misunderstandings with you."
"If you don’t believe me, I specifically set aside letters from two people you once swore you’d chop the heads off of. Want to take a look?"
As she spoke, Yanyun actually pulled two message talismans out of her spatial ring.
Bai Xuanling: "..."
There really were enough ways in this world to leave a person speechless.
But it was better to let her forget about such messy affairs.
Seeing that Bai Xuanling didn’t take the talismans, Yanyun tucked them back away, then continued.
"Uncle-Master knows well that I’m not here to interrogate you. I’m here as your niece-disciple, as someone who cares about you, to ask how you’re doing."
Bai Xuanling used her spiritual energy to pull the teacup over and took a delicate sip before speaking slowly.
"I’m fine. It’s just that becoming a True Immortal all at once takes some getting used to. I can feel this world suppressing me, so I’ve been researching it for a while."
"Besides, now that I’m a True Immortal, I should carry myself with higher dignity. Fighting and killing — that’s something only low-level cultivators do."
Yanyun didn’t press further about low-level cultivators. She simply nodded, then said.
"Even a True Immortal has limits to their power. If Uncle-Master ever needs help with anything, I hope you won’t be too polite to ask."
Bai Xuanling finished her tea and set the cup back on the table.
"Becoming a True Immortal doesn’t rot your brain. I still understand the things I understood before."
Seeing this, Yanyun stood. "Then I’ll take my leave for today, Uncle-Master."
Bai Xuanling smiled faintly.
"It’s hardly an imposition. If you ever have difficulties in your cultivation, you can come to me for answers too."
Hearing that, Yanyun went cold all over. Unpleasant memories came flooding back, and she quickly replied.
"O...okay."
That kind of guidance had been unforgettable even before Bai Xuanling became an immortal. Now that she had ascended, who knew what new methods she’d picked up. Before it was skinning and deboning — this time it might be soul-scattering across nine heavens.
Bai Xuanling gave a light nod, seeing Yanyun off.
Zhuji Peak fell quiet once more.
Bai Xuanling rose to her feet and walked slowly to the viewing platform outside the courtyard, her gaze sweeping over the spiritually rich expanse of Tianyan Sect.
Her eyes inevitably drifted at last toward Peak of One Big Happy Family.
She’d heard long ago that Chu Xingchen had woken up, but she still hadn’t gone to see him.
It wasn’t that she felt too guilty to visit because Chu Xingchen owed her some debt of gratitude.
She’d raised her own child with bitter hardship, and Chu Xingchen had taken the kid for free — and she hadn’t said a single word about it. It was simply that she still wasn’t at the point where she could go see Chu Xingchen. There were still some of her own powers that needed to be fully contained first.
Bai Xuanling sighed softly without realizing it. She’d apparently become all alone again.
A streak of cyan light shot over from within the courtyard, then transformed into Qingming and hovered beside Bai Xuanling. Bai Xuanling chuckled softly. "Alright, alright, alright — it’s my fault. I forgot about you, didn’t I?" Qingming pressed close to Bai Xuanling’s side.
Bai Xuanling gazed forward again. She looked for a while, then spotted a cyan azure dragon rising into the sky from the west. Its scales gleamed with spiritual light, and a furious roar scattered the clouds and mist, its soaring pressure overwhelming an entire stretch of forest.
The dragon wove through the clouds, its sinuous body twisting, then flew straight toward Zhuji Peak. Amid the clouds and mist it rode upon, the dragon’s massive form dissolved in an instant, leaving only motes of spiritual light. In its place stood a girl with dragon horns on her head.
"Lord Qinghe has achieved Spirit Transformation!" The clear, proud voice rang out across Zhuji Peak.
Qinghe didn’t even look — her body flew straight at Bai Xuanling on the viewing platform, then wrapped tightly around her in an embrace. Her voice was quite moved as she said, "How did White Granny know I was coming out of seclusion today and came here specifically to wait for me?"
The words had barely left her mouth before Qinghe’s expression stiffened slightly. Oh no! She’d been too happy and forgot to polish her words before speaking.
But fortunately, the iron fists she’d expected from White Granny never came. Instead, she felt herself being embraced back, and Bai Xuanling’s gentle voice sounded beside her ear. "Not bad. You’ve gotten quite a bit heavier. The hard cultivation wasn’t wasted, then."
No beating? Qinghe’s spirits soared instantly. She hopped down from Bai Xuanling, her face aglow with pride. "Of course! I’m incredibly clever. A mere Spirit Transformation was a piece of cake."
"Clever is debatable. But as for complaints about your laziness, I get six or seven every month." Bai Xuanling tapped Qinghe lightly on the forehead. "But given that your humanoid form came out decently well, I’ll spare you for now."
When she’d taken Qingming, Bai Xuanling truly hadn’t expected she’d get to see Qinghe again. But this wasn’t bad. It was certainly better than Qinghe staring at a Zhuji Peak with not a single soul in sight.
So the real reason she’d spared Qinghe wasn’t because of the humanoid form — it was simply that she got to see a lively, bouncing Qinghe again.
Qinghe’s expression grew even more triumphant. No beating this time either? But thinking it over, she supposed it made sense.
Although she liked to slack off a little during her special training sessions, that wretched old dragon would also catch her mercilessly, and once caught it was nothing but frantic intensive training.
Though the frantic extra training never stopped Qinghe’s determination to slack off. But since she’d been caught slacking so many times, the extra training hours had far exceeded the originally planned cultivation time. Strictly speaking, couldn’t you say that Qinghe had been working hard at cultivation after all?
"Where’s Lingyu? Why isn’t she here?" "She’s at Chu Xingchen’s place." "Hm? Then why aren’t you at Chu Xingchen’s place?" "By your logic, we might as well rename Zhuji Peak to Peak of One Big Happy Family and let Chu Xingchen be the peak master."
Hearing this, Qinghe froze. She thought about it on the spot for a moment, then finally nodded. "Good idea..."
Bai Xuanling’s eyes narrowed. In the end, she couldn’t hold back after all.
