Josinia sat in a living room, drinking from a cup of wine on sofas as soft as clouds.
Spread across those sofas were some friends she had met at the resistance gathering.
Bethaniu and her husband, Lionedis.
And Vhariella and her husband, Handrid.
Both women were some of the nicest people she had ever met, and so were their husbands.
The two women had stories similar to her own. They had run away from the Empire to join the Resistance, which was where they met their husbands.
The men, Lionedis and Handrid, were Honoured Knights of the Resistance.
In other words, Golds.
Josinia felt strange just being around them. Everyone knew that the difference between a low Silver and a Gold was immense.
These men could kill her with ease if they wanted to.
Of course, they had no reason to, but the thought still lingered.
Luckily, these men were kind. Some of the kindest people Josinia had ever met, just like their wives.
As they sat around the living room, drinking and discussing the events taking place throughout the city, Josinia felt relaxed.
That was when a question was thrown her way.
"So, Josinia. Did you meet any nice men at the resistance gathering?"
The question came from Bethaniu, an almost pink-skinned woman with an extremely generous chest and white hair curled into spirals.
She sipped from a cup of wine held in a fashionably gloved hand as she asked the question.
"Yes, I saw plenty of men looking your way," Vhariella added.
She was on the more petite side, with sharply slanted eyes and a beautifully shaped, plump bottom that stood out even beneath her dress. Her hair was cut short to her jawline.
Their two husbands looked at Josinia and smiled.
They were interested in her answer.
Josinia took a sip of her drink.
"I already have a..." She paused, wondering whether she should continue.
Then, suddenly, a new figure appeared in the room.
He stood in the center of the sofas where everyone was seated.
The room fell silent.
Josinia blinked blankly.
The women’s eyes widened as though they had seen a ghost.
The two knights dropped their wine glasses onto the carpet.
It was Kalon.
He stood in the middle of the room, standing out like a sore thumb. His pale skin made it immediately obvious what he was.
He wore a black button-up shirt, black trousers, and fighter boots.
His hair was slicked back with a little water, and his hands rested casually in his pockets.
As soon as he arrived, he looked around.
Then the sound of metal rang through the room.
The two knights, Lionedis and Handrid, summoned swords out of thin air and immediately sprang to their feet, pointing the blades at the newcomer.
Kalon didn’t flinch, making it seem as though he wasn’t scared at all.
In truth, his reaction time simply wasn’t fast enough.
Josinia shot to her feet and raised her hands.
"Stop! He’s a friend!"
The two knights didn’t look at her, afraid to take their eyes off the man.
"A human?" Lionedis spat scornfully.
He was a tall, handsome knight dressed in a black suit, just like his companion.
"An enemy of the Empire," Josinia added. "He’s the one who saved me and helped me escape. The man I told you about."
"I thought one of us saved you, not some alien!" Handrid said, still holding his sword at the ready.
Meanwhile, Kalon let out a quiet sigh, pretending to be unconcerned.
In reality, he was focusing entirely on waiting for one of the men to attack.
The two wives had finally recovered from their shock.
Vhariella, the smaller of the two, leaned forward, studying Kalon.
"Hang on a minute, you two. Can we think about what we’re dealing with here?"
Handrid glanced over at his wife with a look of slight anger on his face.
"What are you saying?"
"I’m saying this is a human. The alien race we’ve only ever seen in holograms. The race that’s supposedly incapable of leaving their own planet. If he’s here, then doesn’t that mean he’s exceptional even among his own people? Besides, he just teleported into the room."
Hearing Vhariella’s words, Bethaniu nodded thoughtfully.
"Vhariella is right. Besides, how many knights do you know who can teleport?"
The large-breasted woman looked at Kalon carefully.
"Mister..."
"Kalon," Josinia told them his name.
"Kalon. What rank are you? And how did you get here?"
Everyone looked at him.
Kalon still felt on edge, since the swords were still pointed at him.
He had yet to say a single word.
Just as he was about to speak, he was interrupted once again.
This time, it was Lionedis.
The knight made his sword vanish before letting out a sigh and rubbing a hand over his face.
"I’m a true fool. How did I not realize it?"
He looked over at his fellow knight, Handrid.
"Knight Handrid, my wife is right. The distance between Vendurion and the Blue Planet is over 500,000 kilometers. How many knights do you know who can teleport that far?"
Handrid thought for a moment.
"None..." he admitted.
Lionedis nodded.
"Exactly. That’s because we only know Gold Rank knights. It’s obvious. This man is above that. That’s why he’s so calm. He knows he could kill us in the blink of an eye."
Kalon blinked several times, stunned.
Do I?
I mean... in a way they’re right. Just not entirely.
Lionedis looked Kalon straight in the eyes. Being much taller, he had to look down at him.
"Have I got that right?"
Kalon glanced over at Josinia.
The cute woman had a hopeful glow in her pink eyes.
A look that begged him to play along with the things they were suggesting.
Alright then. Let’s do this.
Kalon took a deep breath before slowly letting it out.
"That’s right. But I’m probably not as strong as you think. I’m only Diamond Rank, which is two ranks above Gold."
