「Enhanced Eyesight」→ 「Arcane Sight」
Kalon sat up in bed and focused on the new name.
The moment he concentrated, a soft description appeared in his mind.
His eyes went wide as he swiftly gained an understanding of the upgraded physical trait.
Arcane Sight allowed him to see the elemental affinities currently present inside a living being. On top of that, it also revealed every affinity that person would ever be capable of awakening in their lifetime, even those still dormant or locked away.
Of course, it still held the capabilities of granting him enhanced eyesight too, but it was even better than before.
He blinked a few times.
This is a lot to take in... It seems that, with time, Formidable Body is becoming even more impressive.
Curious, Kalon swung his legs out of bed and walked over to the full-length mirror on the wall of his bedroom.
He stood in front of it, took a slow breath, and focused deeply on himself in the mirror.
After a while, his eyesight shifted.
His reflection stayed the same on the outside, but beneath the surface of his skin he suddenly saw colour and movement.
Streams of energy flowed through his body like living rivers.
The first thing that caught his eye was the bright, familiar orange-red of fire. It burned strongest near his chest, pulsing in time with his heartbeat.
That was the Emberheart Physique and the foundation of fire.
Next to it drifted softer currents of the other basic elements.
A calm blue stream of water coiled near his lower abdomen.
Thin green threads of wind moved along his arms and legs.
Dense brown earth energy rested deep in his bones.
A sharp, crackling yellow of lightning flickered around his shoulders.
All of them were present, though none burned as fiercely as the fire.
Then he saw two more that made him pause.
A pure, radiant white light flowed through the centre of his chest, overlapping the fire but never mixing with it.
Opposite that, a deep, quiet black darkness curled around his spine.
Light and dark.
Both existed inside him as clearly as the others, but the light was clearer.
Kalon leaned closer to the mirror, his eyes narrowing.
What he was seeing was incomprehensible, but the more he looked, the more he understood.
Deeper still, beyond the familiar elements, he began to notice shapes that did not belong to any ordinary affinity.
A slow, silver current twisted through the very edges of his vision.
It felt like it was moving both forward and backward at the same time.
Wait a minute, is that the representation of Time?
His system confirmed that it was.
Beside it floated a strange, folding purple energy that seemed to stretch and compress the space around it.
Space. That’s Space!
There were others too, which were faint, half-formed, and completely beyond his understanding.
One pulsed with a colour he could not name.
Another felt like it was rewriting the rules of the body it lived in.
They drifted at the furthest reaches of what Arcane Sight could show him, like stars that were still too far away to touch.
Kalon stared at his own reflection for a long time. He slowly became able to make out more of the affinities in his body.
Fire.
Water.
Wind.
Earth.
Lightning.
Ice.
Smoke.
Sand.
Blood.
Light.
Dark.
Time.
Space.
Fate.
And so much more.
All of these affinities that Kalon wasn’t even aware of were already inside him, sleeping and waiting to be awakened.
The only ones currently awake were Fire and Light.
He unfocused his vision, and everything returned to normal.
A small headache followed afterwards. It seemed he would have to get used to the trait.
The colours deep inside his body suddenly disappeared, and the mirror showed only his normal face again.
A small smile tugged at the corner of his mouth.
Arcane Sight was more than just an upgrade to his eyes. It was a map of every path he could one day walk and a reminder that he had only begun to scratch the surface of what he was capable of becoming.
You’re telling me that my body is capable of awakening every affinity?
Am I really this overpowered?
He scratched his chin in deep thought.
No, that doesn’t make sense. I should first confirm that this isn’t the case for other people as well.
So, he dressed and headed for school.
...
It was breakfast time, so he made his way straight to the cafeteria and found an empty table near the window, like always.
Students walked past, some glancing at him, but most left him alone and only whispered about him to their friends.
He sat quietly, eating his breakfast alone.
After most people had finished their meals, Thea left her friend group and appeared at the seat opposite him.
She flashed him a warm smile and also had a slight blush on her cheeks.
She seemed to remember what had happened in the bathtub yesterday.
"Morning," she said in a soft tone. "Are you coming to train at my house today? My mother is expecting both of us."
Kalon looked up at her.
Instead of answering immediately, he activated Arcane Sight.
The world shifted.
Beneath Thea’s skin, he saw a clear, flowing blue current moving through her body.
Her affinity for Water.
It was the only affinity currently awake inside her, and it was steady and strong.
Deeper down, however, more colours waited.
The core elemental affinities were there: Fire, Wind, Earth, and Lightning.
They all rested in quiet layers, still dormant but fully capable of being awakened one day.
He could tell that some were closer to being awakened than others.
Further still, two rarer energies pulsed faintly: a soft green-gold that felt like Life, and a cold, still grey that carried the weight of Death.
Thea had the capability of awakening affinities towards both Life and Death, though his sight told him that there were deeper sub-categories within those affinities as well.
Kalon let the skill fade and met her eyes again.
"Yeah," he said. "I’ll be there."
Thea gave a small nod, satisfied, and turned to leave.
