Seducing the Guideverse With My System — Raising an Anomaly [BL]
Chapter 156: _Something DarkerPhoenix Flight Training Hall
"Bellamy? Nate?!" Han Jae-won rushed through the hallway, brushing past the Guild officials scurrying around with medical kits.
Many of those lining the hallway were casual members of the Guild here to see the drama before anyone else. They shot him stares but he ignored them until he got in front of the training hall.
"Hunter Nate!" He yelled out when he saw one of his teammates being lifted onto a stretcher—the same Esper who managed to send him an SOS text.
He pushed past the nurses beside him, his eyes immediately pinning on the injuries on him. Hunter Nate was one of the most skilled A-Rank Hunters he knew.
A lightning-type Esper, his abilities could rarely be countered by Espers in the same Rank. Yet here he was—with heavy burns on his clothes and skin and his once bright face etched with ash.
There was also a bruise on the side of his neck, letting Jae-won instantly know that he was struck there before the assailant inflicted his other injuries.
"G–Guide Han," Nate opened his eyes, a weak rasp breaking past his lips. He caught the Guide by the wrist, his features twisting with pain. "It was terrible. I’ve... I’ve never seen... anything like it..."
Jae-won withheld the urge to swat his hand away long enough to ask: "This... Esper. Do you think he might be A-Rank?"
"I wouldn’t be surprised if... if he’s higher." Nate’s eyes glinted with renewed terror. "He had... an invisibility potion. We couldn’t even detect him, let alone defend ourselves or launch attacks."
Han’s brows furrowed.
So, this person wasn’t just powerful, but also resourceful. No wonder his team fell so easily. He wouldn’t be surprised if the Esper was only an A-Rank.
"And then..." Han lowered his voice. "Is there anything else you were able to catch? His looks or anything recognizable?"
Nate shook his head slowly, wincing from the sharp sting on his neck that followed. "He... he had glowing eyes. Blue. But that was the only detail we could catch," a pause. "He said we... we should tell you he’s coming for you... next."
Shivers crawled down the Guide’s spine as he watched the Esper spasm a bit due to the pain. The nurses gently shoved him aside before taking the stretcher away.
Han’s fists balled until his knuckles whitened. Without a second thought, he waltzed into the training hall—first noticing the shattered lock.
It seemed like it was frozen AND melted from the inside out all at once. Next, his eyes scanned the hall.
Scorch marks dotted the floor. Cracks spiderwebbed different spots, even a couple of walls. The smell of burning ozone and lingering chills from frost lingered in the air.
"Fire... and ice..." he muttered to himself, his head angling to the few cameras in the hall.
Dead. Just like the ones in the hallway.
A lump hung in his throat. No matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t recall making any enemies or even knowing an Esper with this prowess.
He’d be stupid to make an enemy out of someone so dangerous—unless. What if it was the only enemy he had to date?
"No," he shook his head when the thought rushed through him. "It can’t be. He’s merely a C-Rank Guide. Even if he sent someone... who would be willing to work for his sorry self?"
He told himself that. Still... at the back of his mind, something clawed at his instincts. And he couldn’t help but imagine a pair of cold blue eyes staring at him.
Waiting to strike.

"Would you relax?" Ambrose scoffed at Devon’s accusatory question, rolling his eyes. "The injury isn’t that bad."
Devon almost couldn’t believe his ears, watching speechlessly while the Guide turned his back to him. As he put on the oversized shirt in his hands, something finally snapped in the S-Rank’s mind.
"... Isn’t that bad?" He echoed, shutting the bedroom door behind him. "Rose, that’s no ordinary burn. And you’re telling me it’s not that bad?"
"I got it from falling on the kitchen stove," Ambrose made sure he kept his face hidden. "I slipped. And I was hoping to wash it off and hide it before you showed up because I knew you’d have this sort of reaction."
The Esper gawked with his mouth parted. For a few seconds, he couldn’t process what he just heard.
Was this guy fucking serious?
"How stupid do you think I am?" He sneered. "Rose, you know damn well that you didn’t get that from a freaking stove. What aren’t you telling me?"
Ambrose chose to stay silent.
If he kept quiet long enough, maybe Devon would stop digging. Deep down he felt a little bad for not being able to tell him. But he couldn’t... for very obvious reasons.
Once he was done slipping into the shirt and had adjusted it before a mirror, he was about to head back into the bathroom when Devon called again:
"Were you in the training hall?" The question made him freeze, his stomach lurching. Devon went on. "I made a stop there before coming here. Because the person who discovered the victims had to call me."
"Who?" Ambrose barely glanced over his shoulder.
"Doctor Kelly," Devon answered without hesitation. "She was so... scared. Those men had fully recovered under her watch. Only for her to come check on them and meet a bloody massacre."
Ambrose didn’t answer, going to his mental space instead. ’That reminds me... I’ll need to figure out how much that doctor knows.’
[Don’t tell me you plan to take her out too.] Aura almost sounded worried.
’Why would I?’
[Because you seem to be bent on getting rid of any threat that it’s stringing out something darker.]
Hmph.
’... Yet you rewarded me for what I did.’ The irony wasn’t lost on him. ’Don’t try preaching morality to me, Aura.’
"They were part of Han’s clique." Devon dropped when he noticed his silence. "All four of them."
"... And?"
"So I find it suspicious how they were targeted out of tens of people in this Guild." The Esper inched closer by a couple of steps. "Don’t you?"
An icy smirk curved Ambrose’s lips as he turned around to face the S-Rank. Unmoved. And still very much unremorseful.
"Sounds to me they got everything they deserve."
Silence stretched between them like a hollow void. Neither spoke but on Devon’s face was concern unlike anything Ambrose had seen before.
His lips thinned back into place as he attempted to head back into the bathroom and wash his face one last time.
"Attention, all Guild members," the sound of static resounded through the building alongside the Guild master’s voice. "Everyone is to report to the lobby immediately. And I mean... EVERYONE."
Ambrose cut Devon a weary glance.
This didn’t sound good...
