Lu Xingye glanced at the seated Jiang Li, then walked to the side. "Brother Zhou, is there really no other way?"

Zhou Tiancheng took a look. Their men were trying a different approach to get closer.

"Perhaps..."

"I’d advise you to drop any funny ideas. We’ve planted bombs all around this area.

If you piss me off, no one gets out of here alive!

Twenty-eight minutes left."

Zhou Tiancheng gripped his phone tightly and took a deep breath.

"Xingye, have Jiang Li come over. You come with her. On the way, explain to her how to use a gun.

She’s smart; she should be able to get it."

"Okay." Lu Xingye hung up the phone and looked at Jiang Li. Two seconds later, he walked over to her.

"Jiang Li, the other side knows our plan, just as we thought. They want to see you."

Jiang Li stood up. "Let’s go."

Zhao Shuo nervously picked at his hands and glanced at Shi Xingchao.

"Officer, did something happen to my daughter? I want to go too, no matter what their demands are.

I just want my daughter to come out of this alive." Shi Xingchao said, looking at Zhao Shuo with desperation.

’Only by going can I see the day they die with my own eyes. This is the fate of anyone who stands in my way.’

Zhao Shuo contacted Zhou Tiancheng’s side. After getting approval, he hurried over with Shi Xingchao.

As soon as Jiang Li got in the car, Lu Xingye shoved his service pistol and a bulletproof vest into her hands.

"Jiang Li, load the magazine, chamber a round, pull the trigger."

Jiang Li stared in shock at the thing in her hand, then whipped her head around to look at him.

"This was Brother Zhou’s idea. We have snipers positioned all around. They’ll do their best to ensure your safety."

Lu Xingye didn’t stop talking from the moment he started the car.

"Lu Xingye, stop talking. The more you talk, the more nervous I get." Jiang Li interrupted him midway.

She was so tense she could barely breathe. After speaking, she started trying to find a way to calm her nerves.

Lu Xingye opened his mouth, then closed it again. "Okay. When we get there, just focus on keeping yourself safe."

Miao Anji, in the back seat, listened to their conversation and blinked. ’Is the situation that serious?’ she wondered.

Miao Anji took out her phone and sent a message to Yu Huannian and Wu Ming.

"Jiang Li is on her way. Please release the hostage first. He doesn’t look like he’s in good shape."

Zhou Tiancheng watched the man inside, who was pale and gasping for air with his head thrown back.

"Tch. It’s just one guy. If he dies, he dies." The man spat, but still threw the hostage onto the floor.

Medicine instantly fell out of the hostage’s pocket.

"The medicine next to him, please give it to him."

"So much bullshit!" the kidnapper cursed impatiently, but didn’t move. "Don’t try to change the subject. Where’s Jiang Li!"

Zhou Tiancheng frowned. A figure crawled forward, picked up the medicine from the floor, and, trembling, opened the bottle and fed the contents into the man’s mouth. The man’s color gradually started to return.

Zhou Tiancheng paused. ’That must be Shi Xingchao’s daughter, Shi Anno.’

The kidnapper glanced over, swallowed the curse he was about to shout, and then spat awkwardly to the side.

Zhou Tiancheng’s eyes flickered. ’That attitude is clearly not right.’

Lu Xingye stopped the car. As Jiang Li got out, she could clearly feel the tense atmosphere around her.

"Jiang Li, you’re finally here. How about we make a deal?

First, arrange a car for us. Second, Jiang Li comes in to be our hostage, and I’ll let all of them go.

One person in exchange for a dozen of them. It’s a deal you can’t lose."

As the man on the other side spoke, a grating laugh came through.

Jiang Li glanced in that direction. Everyone in the building was staring at her in unison, a smile on each of their faces.

The sound of screeching brakes came from behind her. Zhao Shuo and the people he brought got out of the car, along with Shi Xingchao.

Shi Xingchao took in the scene before him, then began to plead, "Miss Jiang, I’m begging you, you have to save my daughter."

"You’re Jiang Li? Please, just listen to them! Save my child, I’m begging you."

"Miss Jiang, please."

Spurred on by Shi Xingchao, the other family members also came over to beg her.

"Everyone, calm down, calm down! Jiang Li is only here to assist. We will do everything we can to ensure the hostages’ safety."

Lu Xingye stood protectively in front of Jiang Li.

"You police have been messing around here for ages and gotten nowhere. Didn’t you hear what they said?

They have guns and have planted bombs! Just let her go, and this will all be over."

"Yeah, exactly! They said they’d release the hostages as soon as she goes."

The family members were becoming more and more uncontrollable.

"Everyone, be quiet. I’ll go."

Jiang Li said, her voice cutting through the noise.

Zhou Tiancheng and the criminal investigation squad were discussing a plan.

Shi Xingchao raised his eyebrows, looking at her with immense gratitude. "Miss Jiang, thank you, thank you so much."

The surrounding family members chimed in with their thanks.

Jiang Li turned to look at the building, took a deep breath, and walked toward the other side.

As they watched her walk forward, the area instantly fell silent. Yu Huannian and Wu Ming, having just arrived, watched the scene nervously.

Shi Xingchao leaned against the car, feigning weakness. ’They’d better have some fun with Jiang Li. It’d be a real shame to just let her die like that.’

"Stop. We need to search you."

The gun Lu Xingye had given her was confiscated before it even had a chance to warm her hands. The corner of Jiang Li’s mouth twitched.

After the search was over, Jiang Li looked at the two men still blocking her way, a puzzled expression on her face.

"Not so fast. We heard you’re a pretty good fighter. How about you play with us for a bit?"

As they spoke, the two men blocked Jiang Li’s path, one holding a club and the other a knife.

"Fine. As long as you let them go, I’ll play along."

The two men hesitated and exchanged a glance.

"I’m already inside. What are you still worried about? You’re not going back on your word, are you?"

"Hey, boss."

"You can release them, but we’re keeping one as a hostage. We’ll let her go after Jiang Li comes up."

"Fine."

So, from the group of hostages, the man kept Shi Anno behind.
