After Warmth finished speaking, Wen Ruo froze instantly. It was as if she couldn’t face reality, not daring to even glance at Warmth.
Looking at Wen Ruo’s current state, Warmth let out a disdainful laugh and continued her mockery.
"So what if you’re a college student now? Wen Ruo, how does that make you any better?"
Faced with Warmth’s merciless taunts, Wen Ruo shook her head repeatedly, backing away.
"No, I didn’t do it on purpose. I only locked the door from the outside by accident. I didn’t mean to hurt them."
Her voice dwindled as she spoke.
Warmth’s laughter once again pierced through her hypocrisy.
"Is that so? But I clearly saw you lock Mom and Dad’s bedroom door yourself. And you even took the key out.
If it wasn’t on purpose, then why didn’t you hand over the key when the firefighters were looking for it?
The truth is, Wen Ruo, you saw the neighbors get a huge compensation payment and got some ideas, didn’t you?"
"Warmth, that’s enough! Even if you are my sister, you can’t just slander me like this! I was just a teenager back then, what could I have known?!"
Warmth gave her a meaningful look, then turned to go about her business.
Warmth’s words reminded Wen Ruo of those unbearable past events, and she nervously fiddled with the corner of her clothes.
’It wasn’t her fault. They were the ones who were biased, saying the older sister had good grades so the younger one should drop out of school to work. If they hadn’t been so biased, she never would have gotten those ideas.’
’It wasn’t entirely her fault.’
Feng Chao listened to their conversation and began to understand. ’Neither of these two is a good person.’
Feng Chao glanced outside. The sky had darkened again. ’Warmth is moving so fast. Are we really going to die here?’
Ding Shikai looked at the silent Wen Ruo, his mind racing. Suddenly, his tone softened.
"Wen Ruo, Ruoruo... if I can let you know my feelings before I die, then my death will be worth it.
Ruoruo, I really like you. I’ve been deeply attracted to you since the first moment I saw you. Ruoruo, I don’t blame you. I love you."
Feng Chao’s eyes widened in shock as he stared at his friend. Ding Shikai’s persona was cold and unapproachable. In all these years, this was the first time Feng Chao had ever heard him say so much.
’And it’s all so cheesy and romantic. Who knew? This guy’s a complete love-struck fool.’
Ding Shikai ignored Feng Chao’s gaze, looking at Wen Ruo with eyes full of deep affection. "Ruoruo, if there’s a next life, I hope I can meet you sooner. That way, I can love you for longer."
Wen Ruo stared at Ding Shikai in disbelief. She lifted her eyes and met his affectionate gaze, freezing on the spot.
She knew Ding Shikai had a crush on her, but she never expected his feelings for her ran so deep.
"You... you really don’t blame me?"
"Ruoruo, I know none of this was your intention. How could I possibly bring myself to blame you?"
Wen Ruo stared blankly at Ding Shikai. After everything she’d done to him, he still didn’t blame her.
Feng Chao’s mouth twitched. He silently lowered his head and played dead, praying inwardly.
’Cousin, oh, cousin, where are you? If you’re any later, your little cousin is really going to meet his end here.’
「Outside」
Cheng Xiangyu led the others forward, following the route.
Feng Dong was so angry he cursed as he walked. "That brat Feng Chao must be crazy, coming to a place this remote looking for thrills.
When we get back, I’m going to teach him a good lesson!"
’Only a fool would come to the middle of nowhere like this for thrills. If it weren’t for Jiang Li, he could have died and no one would ever know.’
The more Feng Dong thought about it, the angrier he got, channeling his fury into his steps.
Wu Ming picked up a tree branch, too exhausted to utter a single word.
"We’re here," Cheng Xiangyu said immediately, spotting the building in the distance.
The group quickly hid behind a tree, observing the distant building.
The beam of a flashlight appeared nearby. It seemed someone else was coming.
"These young people really aren’t afraid of death. They’ll go anywhere."
Wu Ming glanced at the flag held by one of the people up ahead and immediately straightened her back. ’Isn’t that my client?’
Wu Ming hurried over. "Hello, you must be the exploration team. A Miss Luo sent me to provide backup."
"Me, me, me! That’s me!" a girl in the crowd raised her hand and looked at her.
Cheng Xiangyu came over from behind, showed his badge, and looked at the group with a stern expression. "There’s a murderer inside. Your best bet is to stick together and head back down the mountain now."
The group exchanged glances, somewhat skeptical.
"What are you standing around for? If you don’t want to die, get down the mountain now! A place the enemy can’t even find, but you all managed to. If you’ve got nothing better to do, go help the sanitation workers..."
Feng Dong wasn’t as polite as Cheng Xiangyu. He immediately launched into a harsh lecture.
"I recognize him. I think he’s Feng Chao’s cousin. He’s come to our school before."
One of the students whispered to the others.
"Oh, oh, oh, we’ll leave right away, right away."
Realizing he was a real cop, the group wasn’t stupid enough to argue. If the police were here, it meant the situation was serious.
After watching them leave, the group’s gaze returned to the villa.
"Let’s go in and see!"
Cheng Xiangyu nodded. He stepped forward and pushed the door, and it swung open with surprising ease.
Inside, Warmth, who had been about to make her move, suddenly heard the noise from outside. Her hands froze. She glanced at the captives, then went out and closed the door.
Cheng Xiangyu and the others came in and surveyed their surroundings.
"GASP! GASP!!!"
Wu Ming hadn’t stopped gasping since she came in, her eyes wide with shock as she looked around.
’This place is practically a mass grave!’
"Canker sore acting up?" Feng Dong asked, frowning at Wu Ming.
Wu Ming glared back. "What do you know!"
Cheng Xiangyu walked to the window and gave it a push. It didn’t budge an inch. It looked like it had been specially reinforced.
From the shadows, Warmth watched their every move.
Yu Huannian turned his head sharply.
Warmth instantly drew back. She grew more cautious. ’It’s not that I’m afraid,’ she thought, ’but I haven’t had my fun yet.’
Cheng Xiangyu and Feng Dong searched the area but found no one, which meant there had to be a secret room or a basement.
Wu Ming looked around, then headed in a certain direction.
Just as she got there, a figure suddenly appeared before her, swinging something down at her.
Wu Ming quickly took two steps back and yelled, "Yu Huannian, help me!"
Hearing the commotion, Yu Huannian rushed over and delivered a swift kick!
Warmth was knocked to the ground, completely exposed.
In the secret room, Wen Ruo had been moved by Ding Shikai’s deep affection. Her resolve was wavering, and she was thinking of taking advantage of Warmth’s absence to untie the others.
At that critical moment, the door behind them burst open with a BANG. Warmth stumbled in from outside, clutching her chest.
"Sis, what’s wrong?" Wen Ruo jumped in fright and hurried forward to support her.
Warmth sat down on a chair. ’These people are different from the ones before. Before, I could create fear and use it to launch a sneak attack. But this time... these people are clearly trained fighters.’
’If I wasn’t so familiar with this place, they really would have caught me.’
Warmth’s gaze swept over the captives. She shoved the knife she was holding into Wen Ruo’s hand and gave her a push. "Wen Ruo, kill them!"
