Seeing Gao Desheng charging toward them, the expressions on Lu Xingye and Luo Jingheng’s faces changed instantly.

Before either of them could make a move, Jiang Li landed a vicious kick on the charging Gao Desheng.

’That old bastard. I was just looking for a chance to vent, and he served himself up on a silver platter.’

Luo Jingheng stared, dumbfounded, as the petite Jiang Li sent the man flying with a single kick.

"COUGH, COUGH!"

Gao Desheng fell to the ground and coughed up a mouthful of blood. He glared resentfully at the young woman before him. He had hidden it for so many years, only to be found out now by an outsider.

He had been so close, so very close, to getting away with it all, to covering up the fact that he was a murderer.

If it weren’t for them, his grandson would have married and had children under his arrangements, continuing the Gao family line.

Jiang Li looked at Gao Desheng expressionlessly. "Who did you kill?"

Gao Desheng coughed twice and looked up at her, a smirk appearing on his face. "Little girl, if you know I killed someone and hid the body, how could you not know who I killed?"

Jiang Li watched him quietly. The next second, Gao Desheng’s face twisted, and he curled up in pain, staring at her in shock.

"What... what did you do to me?"

Jiang Li met his terrified gaze with a sarcastic smile. "Don’t you people place the most importance on customs? Perhaps this is just your retribution."

Jiang Li smiled and paid Gao Desheng no further mind.

Luo Jingheng watched this silent exchange, his eyes flickering as he stared thoughtfully at Jiang Li’s back.

"Old woman, you... aren’t you dead? Don’t, don’t come over here! Son, daughter-in-law, no, don’t you come over either! I didn’t mean to..."

Gao Desheng thrashed on the ground, his face a mask of terror, and began to spout nonsense.

Just then, the medical examiner who had been inspecting the clay statues inside the cave emerged with a grave expression. Behind him, his colleagues wheeled out several more statues. Including the ones discovered today, the numbers now matched up.

"We’ll have to take them back and break them open for a detailed examination."

In his terror, however, Gao Desheng had already confessed everything.

Miao Anji walked happily to Jiang Li’s side. "Sister, how are you so amazing?"

Jiang Li looked at Miao Anji, a smile playing on her lips. "That’s because Master Miao is a good teacher."

’Those Gu Worms were all raised by Miao Anji. I only learned how to apply the Gu, just the bare basics.’

Wu Ming silently gave her a thumbs-up. ’Truly incredible.’

Jiang Li followed them down the mountain and back to the police station to give a statement.

Accompanied by Wu Tong, Bai Yulan found her long-lost sister at Gao Desheng’s house.

Jiang Li also saw the man from her dream. He was one meter tall and covered in injuries of all sizes—clearly the handiwork of Gao Desheng.

Gao Yaozu looked timidly at the crowd of people before him. When he finally saw the captured Gao Desheng, his face instantly froze.

Seeing Gao Yaozu here, and realizing the woman from the house had also been rescued, Gao Desheng closed his eyes in despair.

’It’s over. It’s all over!’

Seeing Gao Desheng in handcuffs, the tense expression on Gao Yaozu’s face instantly relaxed.

He looked up at the police officer in front of him, Wu Tong. "I... I know. I know everything."

Gao Yaozu spoke through sobs, feeling as though he had been saved. He would never have to live in fear or endure beatings again.

"Gao Yaozu! You ungrateful wretch! I worked my ass off to raise you, you traitorous beast who’d betray your own family!"

Hearing Gao Yaozu’s words, Gao Desheng became instantly agitated and started screaming at him.

After three warnings had no effect, they took action, bringing out duct tape to seal Gao Desheng’s mouth.

Led by the police, Gao Yaozu was taken to an interrogation room, where he told them everything Gao Desheng had done over the years.

"A year after my mom and dad got married, they had my older sister. She was born with a disability.

"Grandfather wanted to abandon my sister, but my parents wouldn’t let him. Later, when my sister was three, my parents had me.

"For the first few years, I seemed perfectly healthy, nothing wrong with me. Grandfather had high hopes for me and would brag to everyone about how amazing his grandson was.

"But in my sixth year of elementary school, Grandfather noticed something was wrong. All my classmates were taller than me. After a hospital checkup, we found out I had dwarfism.

"When Grandfather came back, he threw a huge tantrum. He blamed it all on my sister and gave her away. Later, he started blaming my mom.

"One time, he was drunk and saw me doing my homework. The more he looked, the angrier he got, and he picked up a stool to hit me.

"My mom stopped him. They argued, and Grandfather shoved her. She fell against the corner of a table, and... she died.

"My dad was furious and wanted to call the police, but Grandfather talked him down with all sorts of pleas and threats."

Gao Yaozu started crying as he recalled the past. "I thought that would be the end of it. But I never expected that soon after, news came that my dad had slipped and fallen into the river.

"That day, Grandfather said he wanted to eat fish and sent my dad to catch some in the river. It was the rainy season, and the river was flooding. There’s no way he didn’t know.

"I didn’t dare say anything. If I did, I would have been next."

Wu Tong looked up at Gao Yaozu. "Then what about your grandmother?"

Gao Yaozu covered his face as tears streamed through his fingers. "My condition couldn’t be hidden. As I got older, the surrounding villagers also noticed something was wrong and gossiped behind our backs.

"Grandfather felt I was the reason he’d lost his prestige in the village. He wanted to prove that the people of the Gao family were sound and whole.

"So he got a wicked idea. He wanted to be like those other people and buy a wife from outside the village.

"When Grandmother heard this, she refused, no matter what. They started arguing, and then... Grandmother brought up what happened to my mom and dad."

"And then your grandfather killed your grandmother, too?"

Wu Tong felt a chill run down his spine as he listened. ’To kill his entire family over something so trivial.’

Gao Yaozu nodded, his eyes red. "I tried to report it to the police once before, but I got beaten for it. After that, I was too scared."

Wu Tong let out a long sigh, stood up, and handed the written statement to his colleagues.

Bai Yulan’s heart bled as she watched her sister huddled in the corner.

"Mingzhu, it’s me, your sister. Look at me, it’s your sister."

Seeing her sister completely shut down, Bai Yulan’s heart ached. She wanted to go and hug her, but the moment she got a little closer, her sister would shrink back in fear.

"Miss Bai, please don’t be anxious. We need to take this slowly. For now, let’s take your sister to the hospital to get her injuries looked at."

Bai Yulan wiped the tears from her face and took her sister to the hospital for an examination.

Lu Xingye walked over and sat down next to Jiang Li.

"Bai Mingzhu was diagnosed with cerebral palsy two years ago. Gao Desheng had previously approached the Bai Family about a marriage proposal, but the Bai Family knew about the Gao family’s situation and refused.

"Not long after, Bai Mingzhu disappeared. According to Bai Yulan, she’s been missing for a month. It’s likely her condition has worsened."

Jiang Li clenched her fists as she listened. ’That Gao Desheng is an absolute monster. One person with dwarfism, another with cerebral palsy... even if they did get married and have a child...’

’The chances of that child being born healthy would be minuscule.’

Lu Xingye looked at her and continued.

"Initially, Gao Desheng didn’t think much of Bai Mingzhu either. Later, he tried to find a matchmaker, but people would steer clear the moment they heard about his situation. In the end, after thinking it over, he set his sights on Bai Mingzhu again.

"However, Gao Yaozu said that aside from imprisoning and verbally abusing her, Gao Desheng didn’t do anything else to Bai Mingzhu."
