BOOM!!
A deafening roar suddenly erupted from both flanks of the convoy, accompanied by the boom of powerful explosions. The thick stench of gunpowder filled the air, and Qi Hongxuan and the others at the heart of the convoy instantly realized something was wrong—they were under attack.
They were all Martial Arts Experts with exceptionally keen Spiritual Senses, and they could feel the danger coming.
"Scatter!!"
Qi Hongxuan barked, but he didn’t even need to. At almost the exact same moment, the others in the truck burst into motion, smashing through the vehicle’s walls to get outside.
The very next moment after they left the truck—
WHOOSH!!
A black speck traced an arc through the sky at incredible speed, crashing into the very vehicle they had just abandoned.
BOOM!!
An earth-shattering explosion erupted in an instant. Flames shot out in every direction as the entire truck was blown in two, the pieces flying into the air.
’Artillery?’
Their expressions turned grim. For experts of their caliber, a direct hit might not have been grievous, but they would still have been injured and left in a sorry state.
At that moment, they looked around and saw that several trucks had already exploded and were now engulfed in flames. The many Beidou Army experts who had been in the convoy were in chaos. Some had managed to escape, but others, caught off guard, had already been swallowed by the inferno.
WHOOSH! WHOOSH! WHOOSH!!
Another series of whistling sounds cut through the air as more shells were launched, arcing down from the sky.
"Retreat into the forest to the right!"
Qi Hongxuan roared, his voice booming with such force it actually drowned out the exploding artillery.
Hearing the command, the survivors immediately moved, their forms blurring as they completely cleared the convoy’s perimeter and vanished into the jungle on the right.
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!!
Amidst a continuous series of explosions, the entire convoy was consumed by an inferno. Every last vehicle was obliterated by the bombardment.
"Who the hell is attacking us?! Judging by their Firearms, it’s probably not the Martial Arts Association... and it doesn’t seem like the National Salvation Association, either."
Qi Hongxuan’s expression was grim. He glanced around at his people. Besides Huo Ming and Hong Luan, fewer than thirty men had made it into the forest with him. A single, unexpected artillery barrage had cost him nearly a quarter of his force.
’And this is just their opening salvo,’ he thought. ’Anyone who dares to ambush my convoy wouldn’t have come prepared with only an artillery strike.’
’The situation is more complicated than I expected. My first guess was the Martial Arts Association or the National Salvation Association, but now it seems I was wrong.’
He took a moment to get his bearings, preparing to charge toward the source of the artillery fire. He would eliminate the threat and get a measure of his enemy.
However, before he could move, more than twenty figures suddenly leaped out from the forest opposite them, completely surrounding their patch of jungle.
Three figures stood out from the rest, positioned at the forefront of the encirclement.
One of them was handsome in a demonic sort of way. He had long hair that draped over his shoulders and his upper body was bare, revealing muscle definition that was both fluid and sharp, as if sculpted. He wore a pair of loose-fitting Warrior trousers.
Where this man stood, the surrounding grass and trees rapidly withered, turning a scorched yellow. Rising steam distorted the air around him, and one could faintly smell the scent of sulfur and char.
The second man was immense, built like an iron tower. His features were coarse, and his head was completely devoid of hair, eyebrows, or a beard. He was dressed like the first man: bare-chested with bulging muscles, and a pair of loose-fitting Warrior trousers. The moonlight seemed to shimmer faintly as it reflected off his skin. The ground beneath his feet was deeply indented.
The final man wore a long, blue-green robe. He had short hair and a cold, indifferent expression. He appeared to be in his thirties, but his eyes held the calm and world-weariness of a man in his fifties. His gaze was incredibly sharp as it swept over them.
Qi Hongxuan and his men didn’t recognize the first two, though they could clearly see the distinctive Neon features in their attire. The last man in the blue-green robe, however, was someone they knew all too well.
"Ghost Sword Spirit, Ning Yuanchen!! You people from the Chengtian Army... you’ve actually become running dogs for the Neon People!!"
Qi Hongxuan said through clenched teeth.
Ghost Sword Spirit Ning Yuanchen. He was one of the Sixteen Generals and Five Spirits within the Divine Land’s Warlord hierarchy, belonging to the main lineage of the Chengtian Army’s Primordial Sect. He was an expert who had been famous in the Northern Territory for many years.
"Qi Hongxuan, Huo Ming. It’s been a long time. There’s no need for such ugly words. We’ve simply entered into a cooperative agreement with the Neon Nation. It’s a matter of mutual benefit, nothing more."
"For nearly a century, the Divine Land has been in chaos for too long. The various powers are a rudderless mass, and this is not a good thing. The Neon Nation is willing to support our Chengtian Army in unifying the Divine Land, ending the constant struggle for power and the chaos of war. They will bring us advanced technology, ideologies, and civilization. They should be considered friends of our Divine Land."
"Qi Hongxuan, Huo Ming, you two are men of stature. You should understand that a wise bird chooses which tree to roost in. I can give you a chance now. Cooperate with us. Surrender without a fight. Given your strength and status, the Military Commander will surely not treat you poorly."
Ning Yuanchen said calmly.
"Hahahaha!! How utterly ridiculous!! Is being a lapdog what you call ’a wise bird choosing its roost’?!"
"I, Qi Hongxuan, don’t pretend to be some great hero, but you want me to bear eternal infamy in the annals of Martial History? How could I possibly obey?"
Qi Hongxuan said with a sneer.
