Seven Cubs, Seven Fathers, Zero Days Off
Chapter 127: Having Auditory HallucinationsChapter 127: Chapter 127: Having Auditory Hallucinations
Shen Yue was a bit shocked and looked down at the little cubs on the floor:
"And you? Did you hear a bell just now?"
The little ones all shook their heads in unison:
"Mother, Dabao didn’t hear it!"
"Er Bao didn’t hear it either."
"Si Bao, too!"
Shen Yue found it strange.
’Could it be that I’m the only one who can hear the bell?’
She immediately looked at Moo Moo, who was leisurely and contentedly licking the water from its coat.
It showed no other reaction.
Lan Cangyue understood the implication of her question:
"You’re asking because you heard it ring?"
But they had never heard a bell before!
Shen Yue reined in her thoughts and glanced at the golden bell one more time.
Her expression returned to normal as she said:
"No, perhaps I’m just on edge today and imagined it."
Ye Lüqi chimed in, "I’d say so. You’ve been through so much from this morning until now. First you had a fright, and now you’re busy bathing the children. Why don’t you go inside and get some proper rest?"
Lan Cangyue added:
"That’s right. You were injured when you fell. We can look after the children, so you go and get a good night’s sleep."
Shen Yue shook her head. She knew she hadn’t misheard.
So, her gaze held a hint of inquiry as she looked at the bell:
"I’m fine. I haven’t finished bathing Moo Moo yet. You two go and take care of other things."
Shen Yue shooed Ye Lüqi and Lan Cangyue off to do their work, then continued bathing Moo Moo.
In truth, she wanted to test the bell again.
Sure enough, when her hand touched the bell, a clear, lingering chime rang out once more.
It slipped into her ears and echoed in her mind.
It was as if the sound could pierce the very depths of her soul.
This time, no memory fragments flashed through her mind, but she could confirm that Ye Lüqi and Lan Cangyue had shown no reaction at all.
Which meant they hadn’t heard a thing.
She had confirmed her suspicion: only she could hear the bell.
She understood, in fact, that continuing to live on Wilderness Mountain was not a wise decision.
’But I have a feeling that the body’s original owner, after going through so much hardship to get to Wilderness Mountain, must have had other objectives besides just wanting to hide and give birth.’
’Otherwise, she could have given birth anywhere. She could have hidden in a remote Beast Clan tribe where no one knew her. Why insist on coming to Wilderness Mountain?’
’That’s why I still want to stay here for a while, despite the danger. I want to see what this Wilderness Mountain holds, what might happen, and what the body’s original owner was truly trying to accomplish.’
But now, Moo Moo’s appearance served as confirmation.
Moo Moo’s appearance was likely no coincidence. She could feel that the creature was unusually dependent on and close to her.
This kind of affection was definitely not something that developed at a first meeting.
’So, the other reason the original owner went through so much trouble to come to Wilderness Mountain... was it all for Moo Moo?!’
At this thought, a storm of shock crashed through her. ’Just how capable was the original owner, to have even factored Moo Moo into her plans?’
’And I’m only just realizing it now,’ she thought. ’When Moo Moo appeared this morning with that world-ending aura, I should have been able to foresee the danger. But I didn’t, which must mean Moo Moo itself would never have harmed me or the children.’
「Meanwhile.」
After leaving the bamboo house that night, Huang Ziyue headed for the base of the cliff.
But as he stood at its base, the surrounding miasma had grown thick enough to conceal the entire cliff face.
He even sensed an unusual presence. It was faint and intermittent, yet it was able to suppress his spiritual power.
Confused, he started walking toward the cave entrance he had previously smashed open...
Just then, Bai Chaosi and Gu Fangqi appeared behind him.
The moment they stopped, they sensed something was wrong.
Gu Fangqi said, "Some kind of power here is suppressing my spiritual power."
Huang Ziyue frowned.
"Why are you here?"
Bai Chaosi scanned the area, his expression grim:
"The Golden Lion King is watching over Shen Yue."
"But the Devouring God Flower concerns the entire Beast World. No matter how powerful you are, you can’t handle this alone."
It was the first time Huang Ziyue had ever seen such a grave expression on Bai Chaosi’s normally gentle and composed face.
His eyes flickered, but he said nothing.
The three men walked toward the cave entrance at the base of the cliff.
As they walked, the surroundings grew eerily quiet. Gu Fangqi frowned and said:
"I never expected a strange cliff like this to be hidden among the peaks of Wilderness Mountain."
With that, he looked at Bai Chaosi:
"Are you saying the Devouring God Flower is beneath this cliff?"
Bai Chaosi didn’t answer, his gaze fixed warily on the entrance they were approaching.
But when he reached the entrance he had sealed with his own hands, he froze.
The seal had been breached, leaving a gaping hole. Lying beside it was a man covered in blood.
Bai Chaosi’s expression faltered.
Gu Fangqi also frowned:
"This must be the man you posted here as a guard, right?"
Bai Chaosi immediately knelt and called out:
"A Ling?"
Seeing the man was still breathing, Huang Ziyue pressed two fingers together and sent a stream of spiritual power into his forehead.
The man coughed up a spurt of blood and his eyes fluttered open.
When he saw Bai Chaosi kneeling before him, his face contorted in pain as he struggled to speak:
"Young... Young Master... someone... someone got... in!"
With that, the man took his last breath.
He died with his eyes wide open, unable to rest in peace.
Bai Chaosi’s throat tightened.
"A Ling!!"
A dark aura emanated from his usually gentle face.
Hearing the man’s last words, Huang Ziyue’s gaze darkened. ’We were a step too late!’
He strode toward the entrance.
Bai Chaosi looked at his fallen subordinate, slowly reached out to close the man’s eyes, and then rose to his feet.
The three of them entered the cave and walked toward the ice wall within.
When they reached the Gate of Life and Death, it was sealed shut.
Gu Fangqi stared at the thick stone door and asked:
"How do we get through this? Are you sure the person in black went this way?"
Bai Chaosi examined the Gate of Life and Death.
They had managed to escape through this very gate by following Shen Yue, but that was because she had pressed the correct button from the inside.
He had no idea how to open the stone door from the outside.
Just as the three of them were at a loss...
Huang Ziyue suddenly spotted an inconspicuous indentation on the wall beside the door.
He walked over to examine it.
He noticed that the dust on it was a different shade from the dust on the surrounding wall.
Gu Fangqi and Bai Chaosi came over and immediately saw that the dust on the indentation was indeed lighter.
The three exchanged a look.
Bai Chaosi said, "This must be the switch."
Huang Ziyue reached out and gave it a tentative push.
Under the force, the indentation shifted, retracting slightly into the wall.
Seeing this, Huang Ziyue applied more pressure and pushed hard.
With a heavy grinding sound, the stone door instantly began to rise.
Without hesitation, the three men immediately stepped inside.
No sooner had they entered than the stone door slammed shut behind them, before they could get a clear view of the interior.
Once inside, Gu Fangqi froze for a moment, taking in the majestic hall before him.
He was stunned:
"What is this place? These statues look so real!"
Bai Chaosi frowned, looking at the giant statues standing in the hall.
He sensed that something was off.
He said:
"Be careful. The statues have moved. They’re not in the same positions as before."
