Shadow Monarch in DC

Chapter 565: Death Ascends

The debris of the destroyed moon drifted lazily through space, its fragments catching the faint glow of the galaxy beyond. The violet energy field that had protected Superman and Martian Manhunter faded, and they floated in the emptiness, their eyes fixed on the figure before them.

Arthur Blackwynd hovered before them, his cosmic shadow armor gleaming with violet light. The armor was different now, more refined, his ashen white hair moved gently in the void of space, is eyes blazed with violet fire, his smile was warm, genuine, but there was a power behind it, that even Superman felt it.

Superman was both relieved and confused, and a hint of frustration that had been building for days. "Arthur, where have you been? You have been away for almost two weeks. I only heard that you returned, and then you disappeared once again." He paused, his eyes searching Arthur’s face. "Kara has been worried. We all have been worried. Do you have any idea what it has been like not knowing where you were?"

Arthur’s voice was calm. "A lot happened." He paused, his eyes meeting Superman’s. "More than I can explain in a single conversation. But I am here now. That is what matters." His voice softened. "I needed time. Time to accept what I had to do."

Martian Manhunter was curious. "How did you find this place? The moon was hidden, shielded from most forms of detection. The Watchtower’s sensors barely registered its presence."

Arthur’s smile widened. "I can detect anti-matter easily now. The energy signature was unmistakable, it basically called out to me like a signal fire. It led me here." He paused, his eyes narrowing. "And I even know where Mobius is right now."

Superman and Martian Manhunter exchanged a glance, their surprise evident even in the darkness of space.

"Where is he? We should attack him immediately. He is no longer an idle threat. He is building an army, preparing for something big!" He paused, his eyes narrowing. "We cannot afford to let him continue!" Superman said.

Arthur’s hand rose, cutting him off gently. "I will deal with Mobius myself. He is creating an army to match the armies of Apokolips. He suffered a defeat at the hands of the true Darkseid.. the cosmic entity, not the avatar. That is why he is in hiding now, with no wish to show himself to either of us." His voice hardened. "His intention to destroy me and Earth is because he does not wish for Darkseid to gain something there."

Superman’s eyes narrowed, his mind already working through the implications. "Gain what? What could Darkseid possibly want from earth?"

Arthur’s smile was thin. "We will talk about it later. Right now, as we speak, Earth is being attacked." He paused, his voice dropping to a whisper. "We will return, deal with the threat, and then we will hold a meeting. I will tell you everything, including what we should do."

Superman was alarmed. "Attacked? By whom? Who would dare attack Earth while we are away?"

Arthur’s eyes glowed. "You will see in about a second."

He raised his hand, and the world dissolved around them.

Earth - Gotham City

The scene that greeted them was chaos.

The sky above Gotham was ablaze with fire and destruction, its familiar silhouette replaced by a nightmare of burning light and screaming metal. Paradragons tore through the air, their mechanical wings beating, their maws raining fire upon the city below. The Furies moved among them, their weapons carving paths of destruction through the streets. Buildings crumbled. Fires raged. The screams of the wounded and the dying filled the air.

Hunters fought on the ground, their weapons blazing, their forms illuminated by the fires that consumed the city. They were the best of the best, S-Ranks who had faced monsters and emerged victorious. But against the Paradragons, they were struggling. Each one was stronger than an S-Rank hunter, stronger than the average dragons who are rare to find even in high level dungeons.

Shadow Lanterns moved through the chaos, their rings blazing with violet light, their forms a beacon of hope and death in the darkness. They fought alongside the Hunters, their constructs carving through the Paradragons, their presence a reminder that they were not alone.

Titans fought alongside them protected by Marshal Igris, their powers a testament to the resilience of Earth’s defenders. Robin moved through the chaos, Starfire’s blasts carved through the sky, each one finding its mark. Raven’s magic flared around her, dark and absolute, and then she noticed a presence, so dark, darker than usual.

Arthur’s eyes swept across the battlefield, cataloguing the threat, identifying the targets.

"Kill all the Paradragons," he commanded. "And bring their heads to me. They will prove useful as shadow soldiers."

His Marshals appeared beside him, Bellion, H’El, Galatea, and Beru, Ultra, Doom. their forms glowing with violet light, their presence radiating power. His two dragons, Kamish and Veythur, emerged from the shadows as well, their forms blotting out the sun, their roars a challenge to the invaders.

Arthur’s voice carried across the battlefield, reaching every Shadow Soldier, every Lantern and every being who could hear. "Kill them. All of them."

The Marshals descended upon the Paradragons. Bellion’s greatsword carved through one, severing both of its wings. H’El’s fists shattered another, its mechanical wings crumbling. Galatea’s blasts tore through a third, its body splitting in two. Beru moved through the chaos like a shadow, his claws finding their marks with precision, he was enjoying the fight.

Kamish’s fire consumed one, its form dissolving into nothing. Veythur’s claws tore through another, its mechanical wings shattering. The Shadow Generals followed, while the a massive number of shadow soldiers were deployed all over the world to help the people.

Superman and Martian Manhunter did not wait for orders. They launched themselves into the sky, into battle.

Arthur floated in the sky, his form a beacon of violet light against the chaos of the battlefield. He did not use a weapon, for he did not need one. A Paradragon lunged toward him, its maw open, its fire building, its mechanical eyes blazing with hunger. Arthur moved, his body flowing like water, his hand closing around its horn. He tore it free, the creature’s screech echoing through the chaos.

He spun, the horn in his hand, then he drove it through the Paradragon’s skull. the impact sent shockwaves through the air, and a large amount of blood, the Paradragon fell from the sky.

Two more approached. Arthur moved through them, his body blurring in a way that defied the laws of physics. His fist connected with one’s chest, the impact sending it hurtling through the sky, leaving a hole in its body, and crashing into a building below. His hand closed around another’s throat, its form dissolving into shadow, its essence absorbed into his own.

The soldiers on the ground watched, their eyes wide with awe. The Hunters paused, their weapons lowering, their mouths open. The Shadow Lanterns paused, their rings dimming as they witnessed the power of their monarch.

"Dear God..." one of them whispered. "Is that... is that the Shadow Monarch? I have never seen him like fight in person. He is..."

Arthur’s voice carried across the battlefield, calm and absolute. "Arise."

Three shadows emerged, Paradragons of shadow, their forms gleaming with violet light. They roared, and then they disappeared into Arthur’s shadow, their forms absorbed into his army.

The soldiers stared, the Hunters stared, the living Shadow Lanterns stared.

Arthur floated in the sky for moments, before he disappeared once again.
