The Anti-Matter Universe - Mobius’s Hidden Domain
The place was wrong. Not wrong in the way of broken physics or twisted reality, it was wrong in the way of something that had been built to resemble a world but had failed to capture its essence. The sky shifted constantly, cycling through colors that had no names in any language spoken by mortals, bruised purples that bled into sickly greens, crimson that faded to absolute black, and then back again. The ground beneath Arthur’s feet was not ground, it was a surface of crystallized anti-matter.
Arthur Blackwynd stood in the center of this strange domain, in his shadow armor. His ashen white hair moved gently in the wind that seemed to emanate from nowhere. His eyes blazed with violet fire as he could feel the power of this place pressing against him, could sense the desperation that had built these walls, the fear that had shaped this sanctuary.
He looked around, a smile on his face. "What a strange place to find you in."
He turned and at the far end of the domain, upon a throne of jagged rock that seemed to grow from the crystallized ground itself, sat Mobius, the Anti-Monitor.
The being was vast, his form radiating power, his armor was cracked and broken, his form flickering with instability, his eyes burning with a cold fire that carried a grudge that had been festering for eons. He had been recovering, slowly, painfully, from his defeat at the hands of the true Darkseid. He had been hiding, waiting, planning his revenge, nursing his wounds in this hidden domain where he thought he was safe.
And now, the one he made as an enemy had found him.
Mobius was both full of surprise, amusement, and the faintest trace of respect that he could not quite hide. "Monarch of Shadows. You found this place." He paused, his eyes narrowing as he studied Arthur’s look. "I am impressed. This domain was hidden from the eyes of gods. I wove it from the fabric of anti-matter itself, cloaked it in layers of deception and misdirection. And yet you stand before me."
Arthur floated closer toward Mobius, casually. "I don’t think that’s the emotion you should be feeling right now."
Mobius’s smile was cold. "You have been destroying my troops across your universe. Troops I was building to battle Apokolips and Darkseid." He paused, his eyes meeting Arthur’s. "You have been interfering with my plans. You have been erasing my forces, dismantling my new armies, and leaving nothing but ash and emptiness in your wake."
Arthur’s voice was flat. "Cut the bullshit, will you? You know why I’m here."
"You are here to end my existence. I know you are at war as well with Darkseid. That bastard is at war with everyone, New Genesis, the Guardians, the entire multiverse. But none of them have truly defeated him." He paused, his voice dropping to a whisper. "What don’t you.."
Arthur moved.
His telekinetic punch connected with Mobius’s chest, the impact sending him hurtling away from his throne. The rock shattered, its fragments scattering across the crystallized ground, a testament to the power of the blow. The sound echoed through the domain like a thunderclap.
Arthur’s voice was cold. "I am not here to talk. I am not here to wait for you to offer me an alliance." He paused, his eyes blazing brighter. "You killed my Lanterns. You threatened my planet and my people. You will die. That is the end of it."
Mobius rose from the wreckage, his eyes blazing with fury. He grew more massive, more oppressive, as he drew upon the power of his domain.
"You?" He paused, his form growing more massive. "Killing a Monitor like myself? I am the Anti-Monitor. I have erased universes. I have consumed realities. I have existed since before your species crawled out of the primordial sludge! And you think you can kill me?!"
Arthur said with absolute certainty. "Monitors are beneath me. You all are." He paused, his eyes meeting Mobius’s. "I know this will grab the attention of your fellows. Including your mother." His voice hardened. "But I do not care. I have already erased fifth-dimensional beings while I was weakened." His eyes blazed brighter. "A sixth-dimensional one such as your dear mother will not be a surprise to me. It is a challenge I welcome."
Mobius’s laugh was harsh. "Your arrogance knows no bounds. What is this foolishness?" He paused, his eyes narrowing. "Earth is a strange planet indeed to have created such a being. A world of contradictions, of light and shadow. And yet, it has produced you, so be it.."
He attacked.
His fists were wreathed in anti-matter energy, the ground beneath them cracking under the force of his assault. He moved with the speed of thought, his attacks were relentless.
But Arthur was faster.
He met Mobius fist for fist, his movements fluid, his counters precise. He dodged the worst of the blows, landing serious strikes on the Anti-Monitor’s body. Each impact sent shockwaves through the domain, each blow carving furrows in the crystallized ground.
Mobius’s eyes widened with surprise. His energy was doing nothing to Arthur. His anti-matter attacks were being absorbed, redirected, neutralized. It was as if his power was meaningless against the Shadow Monarch’s defenses.
Arthur said with amusement. "Do not look so surprised." He paused, his eyes meeting Mobius’s. "What can anti-matter do to death?"
He sighed, and with a gesture of his hand, the world changed around them.
The crystallized ground dissolved. The shifting sky faded. The domain of Mobius vanished, replaced by the absolute darkness of the Abyss. The shadows stretched endlessly in every direction, their forms writhing and shifting, the very fabric of reality bending to Arthur’s will.
Mobius looked around, he said in genuine awe. "Interesting power. I would be able to wield this darkness if I could get my hands on the Anti-Life." He paused, his eyes narrowing. "The Anti-Life Equation would give me dominion over all things. I could reshape the multiverse in my image. I could..."
Arthur’s voice was cold. "Oh, you will never get your hands on that."
Dark hands erupted from the shadows, wrapping around Mobius’s body. He struggled, breaking free, his power surging,
But nothing happened.
His anti-matter powers were not working.
Mobius’s voice carried a note of dawning horror. "What is the meaning of this?!"
Arthur’s laugh was cold and absolute. "Your powers will not work in a different plane of existence." He paused, his eyes meeting Mobius’s. "Let alone death’s domain, My domain. And in the Abyss here, you are nothing. Here, you are powerless. Here, you are mine."
Mobius said in defiance. "This cannot be!"
Arthur smiled. "Before I get rid of you, I know you will just reform in the sixth dimension and appear somewhere else. Regaining your powers slowly, just like you did before." He paused, his eyes narrowing. "I also know the true Darkseid already destroyed you once, and this is you trying to get revenge. But with the way you are right now, you cannot even kill the avatar." His voice dropped to a whisper. "And you cannot even kill a clone of mine."
Mobius’s eyes widened. "You... you have it, don’t you?"
"Let us just say we are one now." Arthur said as he raised his hand towards him.
Mobius felt a mix of emotions, rage, desperation, and fear. "I will have my revenge! I will rid this universe of life itself starting with your kin! I will consume everything you hold dear!"
Arthur was calm. "You will do no such thing." He paused, his eyes meeting Mobius’s. "Because I am about to seal your very existence in my Abyss. You will be stuck in an endless cycle of failed regeneration with my power of death." His voice hardened. "I will only release you once you are reformed into a proper Monitor."
Mobius’s voice was a snarl. "YOU DARE INSULT ME!"
"Or, we can do this." Arthur paused, his eyes meeting Mobius’s. "Tell me where the Mobius Chair is, and I will just kill you the old-fashioned way, so you will reform in the sixth dimension."
Mobius laughed a harsh, discordant sound that echoed through the Abyss. "I will never share that information!" He paused, his form writhing as darkness wrapped around him. "Sealing me will not be a kind experience to you. Be sure you will be burdened with this!" His voice dropped to a whisper. "Darkseid cannot be vanquished without my aid. You will return to me. Of this, I am sure."
He attacked one last time a desperate, wild attack.
Arthur’s Ruler’s Authority flared, it smashed the Anti-Monitor to the ground, and darkness took him as he was sealed.
"I will find that chair eventually. Not a problem at all." Arthur said.
The Abyss faded, and he was once again standing in Mobius’s domain.
Didi’s voice whispered in his mind, soft and curious. "You really wish to have it?"
"It is a powerful tool and weapon. I do not wish to have it as much as I do not wish for it to be in the wrong hands." He paused, his eyes narrowing. "With the way I am right now, it would be perfect to use and control it. The power it holds is immense. I could oversee the entirety of the multiverse and keep it at peace and under control."
Didi’s voice carried a note of gentle caution. "I think you should focus on your universe for now."
Arthur smiled as he turned away from the shattered throne. "Relax. I am just thinking ahead, that is all."
