Shadow of Death (SOD)

Chapter 25: Friendly? (3)

Chapter 25

Slowly dropping the tray to get a good look at the woman before him, he was awestruck for the slightest moment.

The woman had striking pink hair that fell in soft, slightly tousled waves around her shoulders.

It contrasted sharply with her calm, piercing blue eyes that seemed almost too steady, as if she was always quietly observing everything around her.

Her expression carried a subtle mix of confidence and mystery, the kind that made it difficult to guess what she was thinking.

She stood with an effortless posture, her presence naturally drawing attention without her needing to say a word.

She wore a simple ashen shirt and a pair of short jeans that barely reached her knees, therefore displaying her smooth, beautiful thighs.

She leaned close to the door frame with a cold look on her face while her arms were folded across her chest.

She looked the boy over from head to toe.

Her tired eyes, which looked like those of someone who barely had enough sleep, scanned him hard.

"Yes? How may I help you?"

Asher blinked once, then cleared his throat.

"Ah... yes."

Then he quickly entered the character he had created and been using for thirty minutes straight.

"I’m Asher Dawson, and my mum made some meat pies for the neighbours. I decided to come over to introduce myself to our lovely neighbours.

We didn’t have the chance to do so in the early days we came, but now, we are chanced, and I didn’t want us to be bad neighbours."

’Can’t believe that such a beautiful woman is a stalker.’

The woman looked Asher up and down again, then glanced at the pies on the tray.

"It’s cool. But I don’t want them." She uttered and reached out for the door.

But Asher quickly moved in an attempt to stop her.

Then he bowed down with the tray outstretched.

"Please. It’s a request; don’t refuse taking them. My mum spent hours in the kitchen making them. She would have come along with my dad for the introduction, but she’s extremely tired after working all day. And dad isn’t back from work yet, so I decided to take up this responsibility."

The woman didn’t move to take them.

Feeling her hesitation, Asher lifted his head slightly and tried his best to do puppy eyes to make the woman feel guilty.

His plan failed horribly as her cold gaze didn’t even seem to change one bit.

"...Please? I wouldn’t want my mum to feel bad that her efforts didn’t get through."

The woman looked at Asher, then at the pies before sighing and reaching out before she stopped.

"Are they all for me?" She asked, her eyes looking at the three meat pies.

"Yes."

Then she reached out and grabbed the meat pies before giving the boy a curt nod.

"Thank you. Tell your mum that I said thanks."

"Sure. She will be informed." Asher replied with a small nod, and the woman reached for the door to close it.

’No. No. No, what do I do? I-I-I need a way to get inside.’

His mind raced incredibly fast until an idea popped into his head, and he rushed to execute it.

"Uh... ma’a— oh-my-my head. Ugh...." Asher groaned loudly as he reached forward.

But then he tripped on oxygen and fell forward with his hand on his head.

Crash!

The tray fell to the ground and clattered loudly as Asher fell with incredible speed.

The closing door paused, allowing a small gap which Asher’s hand accidentally hit, pushing the door open even more, and then he crashed.

...Crashed on something warm and soft.

The woman’s ice-cold gaze immediately switched as a red blush of embarrassment appeared on her face.

The boy’s whole face was firmly planted into her chest area, and he wasn’t moving at all.

Anger began coursing through her as she was about to swing her hand forward and deal such a slap to him that his head would be reset.

But then, she paused.

"As-ahem.... Asher?" She called out carefully.

The boy wasn’t responding.

Due to their close proximity, she could feel the boy breathing, but it seemed like he was unconscious.

"Now what do I do? I can’t begin to drag him to his house in this condition. His family would begin to question me."

The woman looked at the boy’s hands hanging loosely on the side.

Then at the tray on the ground.

Before finally glancing at the Dawson’s residence.

’It will be much easier to just drag him inside and wait for him to recover.’

She frowned at the thought of the boy invading her personal space.

But what choice did she have?

Hence, she began the strenuous task of dragging the boy from her chest and began pulling him inside with her entire force.

Looking outside for a second, she used her leg to kick the door closed.

She dragged the boy like a sack of rice before managing to toss him onto the sofa with an exhausted breath of relief.

"...."

"Oh. The tray." She mouthed.

She rushed back outside and grabbed the tray before returning and setting it on the table.

She looked at the unconscious boy for a few seconds with a thought going through her mind.

"How do I wake him up? Who even knows what condition he must be going through that made him faint? Hm."

She then sighed and began walking away to the kitchen.

"I just have to dump a bucket of water on him. There’s nothing water can’t solve."

Hearing the sound of footsteps retreating, several seconds passed.

’I wonder. Has she gone?’ Asher thought.

He waited for a few more seconds, then smiled as he slowly rose up.

He stretched and yawned silently.

"Great. My plan worked."

"Did it?"

"...."

"Ba.... Thump."

His heart skipped a beat.

Eyes wide in horror, he spun around like a broken arrow to see the woman standing just right behind the sofa with a frown on her face.

Asher gulped loudly.

’I’m cooked.’
