With a large hand gripping the braid on the head, Zhao Zun, like carrying a lantern, held Alpi’s head in his hand, exuding a murderous aura.
Blood dripped from the lower part of the head, dripping drop by drop, as Zhao Zun surveyed the trusted aides around him who were still fending off the Turkic soldiers. Their figures appeared both heroic and poignant in the firelight.
Holding Alpi’s head, he strode to Ma Cheng’s corpse and slammed the head onto the grass, producing a dull thud.
Zhao Zun stepped on Alpi’s head, slowly squatting down, his gaze fixed on the arrow still firmly lodged in Ma Cheng’s neck, his eyes filled with sorrow and guilt.
He shouldn’t have, shouldn’t have agreed to Ma Cheng’s request to fight, shouldn’t have let him take part in this mission!
"Brother, it was I who caused your demise!"
Zhao Zun’s voice was low and hoarse, painfully closing his crimson eyes, his mind filled with scenes of him and Ma Cheng fighting side by side.
Ma Cheng was once his staunch ally, incredibly brave, yet was demoted to Centurion due to others’ manipulation of power. And this perilous mission was also their last time fighting together.
"General, don’t be sad. To serve Da Jing with loyalty, to serve the General, I, Ma Cheng, die without regret!"
Zhao Zun seemed to hear Ma Cheng’s bold words from before his death, his eyes moist.
He slowly opened his eyes, his gaze becoming resolute and cold.
Ma Cheng died fighting to save him, he must, amidst the gradually waning sound of battle, give his valiant brother a proper appearance for his departure.
"Ma Cheng, rest assured. I will use Alpi’s head to honor the souls of you and the other brothers who perished in this mission."
Saying this, a tear rolled down the cold face of this iron-willed man, a tear of guilt and remorse.
He slowly squatted down, trembling hands cautiously pulling out the arrow from Ma Cheng’s neck, using a handkerchief to bandage the wound, then gently closed his eyes, tidying his armor.
At this moment, the roar of a motorcycle like the roar of an ancient beast approached from far to near, vibrating the battlefield air.
Amidst the gradually waning kill, Han Lei rode that mighty three-wheeled motorcycle, with Ping Chuan and Hua Tianyou aboard, racing down from the mountain’s edge with unstoppable momentum.
Already panicked and overwhelmed, the Turkic soldiers, due to the burning of supplies and the sudden death of their highest leader, were even more frightened by the approaching "beast" and fled faster.
Those who lived on the grasslands had never seen such a strange yet powerful beast, thinking it was some unknown terrifying creature descending, suddenly adding more chaos to the battlefield.
Even Xiao Zhengfei and others fighting the Turkic soldiers around Zhao Zun couldn’t help but pause in their actions, turning back with alarm and shock to watch the rapidly approaching "beast".
Their eyes held both confusion and fear, unsure of what changes this sudden "beast" would bring, until the voices of Han Lei and the others rang out, they breathed a sigh of relief.
"Zhao Zun, Zhao Zun!"
"Zhao Zun, where are you?"
"Prince, we’re here!"
Han Lei’s soft voice was particularly clear and firm amidst the roar.
She sped along, shouting, as if trying to channel all her longing and worry into this call, transmitting it to Zhao Zun among the crowd.
The motorcycle sped along, and the Turkic soldiers fled in panic along its path.
Seated at the back of the motorcycle, Ping Chuan and Hua Tianyou were anxiously searching for Zhao Zun’s figure.
While cautiously scanning the surrounding enemy, they raised their pistols, shooting those Turkic soldiers passing by the motorcycle. Their actions were unskilled yet decisive, providing strong support for Han Lei’s driving.
Yet, there were so many, and so close Turkic soldiers around them, they didn’t need much aim, just raising their hands could accurately kill.
With silencers installed and the loud sounds around them covering, the Turkic soldiers around fell inexplicably on the ground where their pistols fired.
Bujia, Alpi’s subordinate, was in the vicinity fighting Zhao Zun’s trusted aides. Seeing the inexplicable wounds on the fallen Turkic soldiers, he suddenly realized and shouted in panic with Turkic words.
"Peanuts, the peanuts are here! Run!"
The term "peanut," over the past three months, had spread like wildfire in the Turkic royal court, causing dread in conversation.
