(A friendly reminder: you’re about to watch a horror film.)

Xiao Li discovered she had transmigrated, becoming a princess of the Longsheng Country.

Although she was a pawn for the Empress Dowager and the Emperor, she was married to a truly outstanding husband.

Her Prince Consort, Lu Yanzhi, was a man of extraordinary talent, one of heaven’s favored sons. Yet, he was of noble character, indifferent to power and influence. His favorite pastimes were reading, playing music, tending to flowers, and painting.

They were strangers before their marriage, and their initial interactions were a bit awkward. But after marrying, they grew accustomed to one another, and feelings gradually blossomed between them.

Lu Yanzhi would paint with her and savor tea with her. They would admire flowers and scenery, enjoying a peaceful and leisurely life.

She secretly learned needlework to make him a pair of socks. Though the craftsmanship was poor, he didn’t mind in the slightest and even happily wore them.

They were inseparable, a loving couple who were the envy of all who saw them.

Princess Chen was a gentle and kind person, but she was always treated cruelly and coldly by Prince Chen. Lu Yanzhi shared a bond with her forged in childhood, but because of their respective statuses, he couldn’t interfere in another couple’s marital affairs.

Xiao Li saw her Prince Consort’s distress. Unwilling to see her beloved husband troubled, she took the initiative to visit Princess Chen. When she learned that Princess Chen was being abused by Prince Chen, her body covered in injuries, Xiao Li couldn’t help but feel sympathy and pity for her.

With Xiao Li’s frequent visits, Prince Chen’s cruelty toward Princess Chen finally lessened. Meanwhile, Xiao Li and Princess Chen, Liu Xueyin, became bosom friends, as close as sisters.

Later, Xiao Li became pregnant. Both she and her husband were overjoyed, especially the Prince Consort, who eagerly anticipated the child’s arrival.

But a month into her pregnancy, Xiao Li began to suffer from severe morning sickness that left her haggard and worn.

The Prince Consort’s heart ached for her. He wished he could suffer in her place, even saying he would rather not have the child than see her in such pain.

How could Xiao Li bear to disappoint her husband? She insisted on seeing the pregnancy through, no matter what.

When Liu Xueyin heard the news, she rushed over to comfort and accompany her, even sewing small clothes for the baby with her own hands.

Xiao Li endured great suffering to carry this child. Fortunately, she had her beloved husband and her dear friend by her side. Watching her belly grow day by day, she felt a sense of relief. ’My hardship wasn’t for nothing. I must give my beloved husband a big, healthy boy.’

But her body was beyond her control. Not even eight months into her pregnancy, she unexpectedly went into premature labor.

From outside the door came the shouts of her husband and friend. She held on, pushing through the pain, until finally, a clear cry pierced the darkness before her eyes. She had given birth to a healthy baby boy.

"Princess, you’ve been through so much."

Her Prince Consort rushed in, disregarding everything, and tightly grasped her hand, his eyes shimmering with tears of joy.

Her best friend held the swaddled child, happy and moved for her sake. "Xuanyang, it’s a healthy little boy. I’m his auntie now."

At that moment, she felt an unparalleled happiness, believing all her suffering had been worth it.

But just as she reached the peak of her happiness, disaster struck. She began to hemorrhage after childbirth, and the bleeding couldn’t be stopped.

Several Imperial Physicians arrived. They administered potions and applied acupuncture, but nothing worked. They could only mercilessly declare that her life was coming to an end.

Amidst her husband’s desperate calls and her baby’s cries, she experienced a final burst of energy.

She knew she was going to die. Nothing could change that.

But looking at her agonized husband and the child who seemed to sense his mother’s departure and was crying his lungs out, she was filled with reluctance, yet utterly helpless.

"Husband, to have been your wife is more than I could have asked for. My only regret is that my fate is a cruel one, and I can no longer stay by your side or watch our child grow up."

"Husband, you must live well and raise our child to adulthood."

Prince Consort Lu Yanzhi held her, his eyes filled with tears, his voice choked with sobs as he swore, word by word, "Rest easy, Princess. I will raise our child well. Princess..."

She died. But in that final moment, she saw the future. She saw her Prince Consort, listless and dejected because of her, vowing to never remarry.

The Prince Consort raised the child alone, and Liu Xueyin, who also loved the child dearly, filled the void of a mother’s love he was missing.

They would tell the child, again and again, that he had a mother who loved him very much.

Later, the Emperor and Prince Chen had a falling out. Prince Chen was forced to usurp the throne, and Liu Xueyin became the Empress. But she continued to love the child, treating him as her own.

Seeing this, she closed her eyes in peace.

Her life may have been short, but she had a beloved husband, a friend as close as a sister, and an adorable child. Her life was complete.

Though she regretted not being able to raise her child, seeing him grow up healthy, happy, and safe made that regret seem insignificant.

----(End of the horror story)

On the large, carved bed, Xiao Li flung off the covers and lurched to the edge. "GACK—"

"GACK—"

She dry-heaved several times, but to her frustration, nothing came up.

It felt as if something was lodged in her chest, utterly revolting and nauseating.

Her face was dark with utter disgust. "If you have the guts, just kill me! Why resort to disgusting me like this?"

Xiao Li had never imagined such a repulsive nightmare. Being lovey-dovey with Lu Yanzhi, becoming sisters with Liu Xueyin, eagerly giving birth to that child, and even dying with a sense of happiness... it was simply horrifying!!!

’No, this probably isn’t a nightmare. It’s too coherent, too real. This is an attempt to alter my memories.’

’They want me to forget my hatred, to believe I’m deeply in love with Lu Yanzhi and that Liu Xueyin is my dearest friend.’

’What the fuck... why not just kill me instead?’

"This is just too disgusting."

"Princess." Hong Yue pushed the door open and hurried to the bedside. "Princess, is your wound hurting?"

Xiao Li didn’t speak. Two different sets of memories were warring in her mind, tangling together and making her head feel like it was about to explode.

Cen An was quickly summoned. Seeing Xiao Li’s brow furrowed in pain, he checked her pulse, then with a few swift motions, began inserting needles. In moments, he had turned Xiao Li into a human pincushion.

Hong Yue and Lan Yue watched from the side, their hearts pounding in terror. ’Can you even do acupuncture like that?’

Fortunately, after a moment, Xiao Li’s body relaxed, and the tension in her brow eased.

Seeing Xiao Li slowly open her eyes, Cen An let out a heavy sigh, wiped away a bead of sweat, and carefully removed the needles.

"The Princess was trapped in a nightmare. She’s fine now. I’ll go back and brew a calming soup for her. She’ll be better after drinking it."

Hong Yue breathed a sigh of relief and quickly said, "Thank you, Doctor Cen."

Cen An waved his hand and asked Xiao Li, "How are you feeling, Princess?"

Xiao Li looked at him for a moment, then slowly said two words: "Thank you."

’Cen An’s medical skills are truly impeccable.’

Cen An rubbed his nose. ’The Princess was already beautiful, but now, pale and weak, she looks less aggressive, making her even more attractive. And she’s staring right at me to thank me... this is seriously shaking my resolve as an anti-fan.’

"It’s my duty. There’s no need for thanks, Princess. I’ll go brew the medicine now. Please get some rest."
