Chapter 283: Crucible Arena
"A Pill-Veined Mystic-Grade pill?"
Qaylus stared at the dark-robed youth.
"Rhain," Qaylus asked curiously, "Have you ever actually refined a Pill-Veined Mystic-Grade pill?"
Strangely, his tone was much calmer than it should have been.
Rhain just shook his head.
"I haven’t," Rhain replied truthfully. "I have refined Pill-Veined Epic-Grade pills before. But judging by my current soul power and the Emperor-Grade cauldron, I am almost certain I can refine a Mystic-Grade pill with pill veins."
Qaylus exhaled a long breath.
But then Rhain’s dark grey eyes narrowed slightly, a trace of hesitation flickering in his gaze.
"However, there is a big problem," Rhain stated. "The moment the pill veins form, it will undoubtedly summon a Heavenly Tribulation. A lightning tribulation of that magnitude cannot be hidden. It risks exposing my identity to my enemies."
Qaylus’s expression instantly darkened.
Rhain was totally right.
If a Heavenly Tribulation struck the Valdris Royal Academy, Emperor’s spies hovering around the borders would immediately report it.
It would definitely expose him.
"That is indeed a fatal problem," Qaylus muttered, but a moment later, his sharp eyes lifted.
"However... we might have a solution," Qaylus spoke, "Deep beneath the Academy, we possess a Special Alchemy Room. The arrays etched into those walls are designed to completely isolate and sever all aura from the outside world. I cannot be entirely sure, but perhaps... it could also suppress the aura of a Pill-Veined Mystic-Grade pill and blind the heavens enough to stop the tribulation from forming."
Rhain’s eyes brightened with a sharp light.
An array capable of deceiving the heavens?
"I would really like to try it," Rhain nodded. "I will inform you, Dean Qaylus, the moment I am ready to begin the refinement."
Just as the agreement was struck—
Buzz! Buzz!
The transmission talisman in Rhain’s spatial ring vibrated urgently.
Rhain raised a hand, signaling for a moment of pause, and channeled a thread of his dark essence into the artifact.
"Master!" Vulcan’s deep voice resonated clearly in his mind. "We have uncovered something critical."
"Speak," Rhain commanded.
"We were digging through the deepest underground networks, as you ordered, looking for a method to conceal your identity from a Monarch," Vulcan reported, his voice filled with caution. "We just purchased a piece of information from a rogue cultivator who claims to have barely escaped the Crucible Arena with his life."
Rhain’s eyebrows rose a fraction. "And?"
"According to him, there is a highly classified, secret auction taking place in the underground market of the Crucible Arena in exactly half a month," Vulcan explained. "And one of the headline items being auctioned is an ancient technique of unknown rank explicitly said to hide one’s appearance and aura even from the eyes of a Monarch!"
A faint smirk brushed past Rhain’s lips.
"Are you certain?"
"We are still trying to verify the authenticity of this matter, Master," Vulcan admitted. "But the Crucible Arena is an incredibly dangerous, lawless underground territory. Intelligence from there is hard to confirm. Yet we will definitely find something soon enough."
Understood. Good work, Vulcan," Rhain replied decisively. "I will handle the rest."
Rhain severed the connection and stored the talisman away.
He then turned his placid gaze back to the Dean.
"Dean Qaylus," Rhain spoke, his tone shifting. "What can you tell me about the Crucible Arena?"
The moment those two words left Rhain’s mouth, the calm demeanor Qaylus had managed to scrape together vanished instantly.
"Why in the world are you asking about that cursed place?" Qaylus demanded, his voice rising in alarm.
"Because I plan to visit it," Rhain stated flatly.
"Absolutely not!" Qaylus stepped forward, his eyes blazing with urgency. "Rhain, do not even think about stepping foot in that hellhole! Crucible Arena is a place where death is as common as eating and drinking!"
Qaylus paced furiously, gesturing with his hands to emphasize the gravity of the situation.
"It is an underground territory completely disconnected from the laws of the dynasty. Men from all around the dynasty gather there. Exiled criminals, bloodthirsty psychopaths, and monsters who have nowhere else to go! They go there for one reason: to get astronomical wealth, and power through slaughter!"
Qaylus looked Rhain dead in the eye.
"There are no Aetherium Crystals used in their core markets. The very currency of that place is blood! If you want to obtain anything of value, you must kill and harvest Blood-Iron Tokens. And the only way to get those tokens is simply to fight to the bitter end in the death matches!"
Dean’s voice grew chillingly grave. "In the Crucible Arena, no matter what exalted identity you hold outside—even if you are a Prince of the Solathane Dynasty—you can and will be slaughtered like a dog. No status, no noble connections, and no political leverage holds any advantage there. Only raw, brutal power matters."
Qaylus let out a heavy sigh, trying to reason with the youth. "Drop this plan, Rhain. It is simply madness."
But as Qaylus looked at Rhain’s face, his heart sank.
Rhain didn’t seem to be afraid. He wasn’t intimidated in the slightest.
In fact, his dark grey eyes were shimmering with a trace of excitement.
’A place where status means nothing, and you kill to earn resources?’ Rhain thought, the bloodthirsty nature of the Abyssal Sovereign Physique quietly stirring.
It was the perfect hunting ground.
A place built entirely on raw power was exactly the kind of environment he needed to hone his skills, solidify his Core Formation strength, and rapidly grow stronger.
Besides, if Vulcan’s intelligence was accurate, he had to acquire that disguise technique at all costs.
"I have made my decision, Dean," Rhain said, his voice unyielding. "I am going to the Crucible Arena."
Qaylus looked at the dark-robed youth helplessly, rubbing his temples as if trying to ward off an impending migraine.
"Why?" Qaylus groaned. "Why do you always have to take such suicidal actions? You are safe here!"
"I am not weak, Dean," Rhain replied reasonably. "I can easily fight against early and middle-stage Domain Masters. Crucible Arena should not be overly dangerous for me."
"Not dangerous???" Qaylus nearly shrieked. "Rhain, you do not understand! There are late-stage Domain Masters lurking in those blood pits! Furthermore, the arena is ruled by the Nine Seats of the Crucible Throne. Every single person who sits upon those thrones is among the most lethal, blood-soaked Domain Masters in the entire dynasty! Only a Monarch can claim to be truly safe in that place!"
Rhain simply stared at him, his expression completely unfazed.
"If I want to grow stronger, I need to fight," Rhain stated, his tone carrying an absolute, unbreakable conviction. "A sword rusts if it is kept in a gilded scabbard."
Qaylus stared at the stubborn Rhain.
Finally he let out a long, defeated sigh.
"I have no right to stop you," Qaylus murmured bitterly. "You are free to go wherever you want. The promise to protect your life only extends to the boundaries of the academy."
Having said that, Qaylus retrieved three small, glowing crystalline orbs from his spatial ring.
He held them out toward Rhain.
"Take these," Qaylus instructed, "Each of these three orbs contains a full-powered attack from me. If you use them carefully, they can severely damage or even kill a late-stage Domain Master. Do not hesitate to use them if your life is threatened."
Rhain accepted the three heavy orbs, carefully storing them in his spatial ring.
A genuine trace of gratitude flashed in his eyes.
"I thank you deeply, Dean Qaylus," Rhain offered a sincere bow.
Qaylus waved his hand dismissively, his face still etched with worry. "Save your thanks. Just make sure you come back alive. I will find a trusted man within the city who knows the underground routes. He will guide you safely to the hidden entrance of the Crucible Arena."
Rhain nodded.
With the preparations set, he turned and left the grand hall.
He needed to return to his secluded courtyard to say goodbye to Seris and Liana.
If the secret auction was scheduled in half a month, and the Crucible Arena was truly the chaotic bloodbath Qaylus had described, he would need to enter the death matches immediately to accumulate enough Blood-Iron Tokens to secure the technique.
It was unknown exactly how many bloody battles he would have to fight, or how long it would take.
But one thing was certain.
He would not be returning to the Valdris Royal Academy for at least half a month.
