Chapter 287: Fighting Skullcrusher
Silver Rank 1?
First level of the Core Formation Realm?
Thousands of spectators exchanged utterly bewildered glances through their masks.
"Silver Rank 1?" a burly man with a tiger mask muttered, digging a finger into his ear. "Did I hear it wrong or the announcer misspeak? Surely he meant Gold Rank 1, right?"
"It has to be a mistake," another spectator scoffed. "Skullcrusher is a Gold Rank 1 fighter. An early-stage Domain Master! A Silver Rank 1 is just a first-level Core Formation cultivator. The arena rules don’t match lower ranks against higher ranks unless the weaker one specifically requests a cross-rank death match!"
"Who would be insane enough to request that?"
Under the bewildered, questioning gazes of the crowd, a dark-robed youth wearing a demonic Asura mask leaped gracefully from the middle rows of the stands.
He landed onto the blood-soaked sands of the arena floor with a light grace.
The moment Rhain’s boots touched the ground, he didn’t bother suppressing his aura.
The spiritual pressure of a first-level Core Formation Realm expert rolled off his body.
The crowd instantly sensed his realm.
It wasn’t a mistake.
The youth standing in the pit was genuinely at the very bottom of the Core Formation Realm!
For a while, the spectators were utterly dumbfounded by the sheer absurdity of the matter.
Then, the entire colosseum erupted into a deafening roar of mocking, hysterical laughter.
"BWAHAHAHA! He really is a Silver Rank 1!"
"Is this man tired of living? He couldn’t find a high enough cliff to jump off, so he came to the Crucible Arena to be killed by Skullcrusher?"
Ignoring the deafening mockery raining down upon him, Rhain walked calmly toward the center of the ring.
He tossed the heavy leather pouch he had just purchased directly onto the referee’s hovering stone platter.
"I bet thirty Blood-Iron Tokens," Rhain announced, his artificially deepened voice slicing through the noise.
The crowd laughed even harder.
"Thirty Blood-Iron Tokens! This idiot is basically paying for his own funeral!"
"He must be another one of those delusional fools influenced by the Ninth Seat!" a masked rogue cultivator shouted, pointing mockingly at Rhain.
The mention of the "Ninth Seat" sent a ripple of excited, bloodthirsty murmurs through the stands.
Two months ago, an unfathomable monster had arrived at the Crucible Arena.
That person had also been at the Core Formation Realm, yet he had relentlessly slaughtered his way through several Domain Masters in the death pits.
In the end, that monster had even challenged and killed the previous Ninth Seat of the Crucible Throne, claiming the exalted position for himself.
Since then, the arena had seen a sudden influx of arrogant, delusional Core Formation fighters who believed they were hidden dragons capable of fighting across major realms.
"These copycats never learn!" someone sneered viciously. "Every single fool who tried to imitate the Ninth Seat has been slaughtered like a pig! This ’Asura’ is going to be ripped into pieces!"
"Skullcrusher is no ordinary Domain Master! He has survived thirty consecutive death matches in this arena! His hands are stained with the blood of true experts!"
There was no pity in the eyes of the spectators.
In the Crucible Arena, weakness was a sin, and arrogance without strength was the ultimate joke.
They merely shouted and stomped their feet, waiting eagerly for the gruesome show to begin.
Across the ring, Skullcrusher threw his head back and let out a maniacal, booming laugh.
"A Silver Rank 1 bug?" Skullcrusher mocked, his massive, spike-covered frame shaking with cruel amusement. "I was hoping for a real warmup today, but squashing a delusional cockroach works too! I promise you, boy, I will tear you limb from limb while the crowd listens to your screams!"
With a savage grin beneath his iron helm, Skullcrusher pulled a massive, blood-stained sack from his spatial ring and slammed it onto the ground.
"You bet thirty?" Skullcrusher roared, his voice echoing like thunder. "I bet one hundred Blood-Iron Tokens! If by some miracle the heavens are blind and you win, these are yours! But don’t be stupid, your corpse is staying in this sand!"
Rhain’s dark grey eyes simply stared at the hulking giant, entirely unbothered by the threat.
"Begin!" the referee shouted, instantly retreating to the safety of the barrier.
CLANG!
The death bell rang.
"DIE!" Skullcrusher bellowed.
BOOM—!!!
Skullcrusher did not hold back in the slightest.
Even though, the opponent was just a Core Formation, his experience had told him to always use all of his strength against his opponent.
This was a death match.
There was no testing waters here.
Each strike was meant to kill.
"Domain of Iron!"
BOOM—!!!
An incredibly oppressive aura exploded from Skullcrusher’s massive body.
The space within the arena shifted as razor-sharp iron spikes erupted from the ground and the void itself.
Rhain could feel the difference in strength himself.
This was not the pampered, resource-fed Domain Master of a noble from the outside world.
This was a Domain Master tempered through endless slaughter and bathed in oceans of blood!
His mastery over the Law of Iron clearly reached an astonishing thirty percent!
But Rhain didn’t retreat a single step.
His dark grey eyes flashed with a chilling light beneath the Asura mask.
"Origin Domain of Darkness."
WHOOSH—!!!
A pitch-black darkness erupted from Rhain’s body, expanding outward like a ravenous beast and instantly swallowing half of the arena.
The light-devouring darkness clashed heavily against the pressure of the Domain of Iron.
The collision of the two territories unleashed a shockwave that rattled the colosseum’s defensive arrays.
Up in the stands, the mocking laughter was instantly strangled in the throats of the spectators.
"A DOMAIN?"
"He... he has a Domain? A Core Formation cultivator with a Domain?"
The dumbfounded crowd shot to their feet.
They finally realized the youth standing in the ring was not just another suicidal fool.
He had the strength to back his arrogant challenge!
But down in the blood-soaked sands, the situation was far more perilous than the spectators could possibly comprehend.
CRACK! CRACK! CRACK!
Iron spikes drove into the darkness and were eaten away, dissolving from the tip downward as though submerged in acid.
But for every spike that dissolved, three more erupted to replace it, and the darkness recoiled, its boundary forced backward inch by inch.
Thirty percent mastery of the Law of Iron.
Fifty percent mastery of the Law of Darkness.
By comprehension alone, Rhain held the overwhelming advantage. But comprehension was only half the equation.
The other half was the cultivation realm channeling it—and Skullcrusher was an entire major realm above him.
A Domain Master’s essence reserves compared to a first-level Core Formation cultivator’s were like an ocean compared to a river.
’So this is the gap,’ Rhain thought coldly.
But the situation on the other side was even worse.
Skullcrusher’s vision was plunged into complete blackness.
His spiritual sense, normally capable of covering miles, was instantly compressed to mere inches past his skin.
"You think hiding in the dark will save you, you little rat?" Skullcrusher roared, his bloodlust flaring instead of diminishing. "I HAVE BATHED IN THE BLOOD OF DOMAIN MASTERS! A TRICK LIKE THIS WON’T KEEP YOU ALIVE!"
Skullcrusher didn’t panic. As a veteran of thirty consecutive death matches, his survival instincts were honed to a terrifying, monstrous peak.
Since he couldn’t see his target, he decided to simply obliterate everything in the surrounding space!
"IRON MAIDEN’S WRATH!"
BOOM—!!!
From Skullcrusher’s massive body, thousands of razor-sharp iron spikes erupted in every conceivable direction.
Iron spikes erupted from every direction at once—from beneath, from above, from every angle, packed so densely that there was no gap wider than a man’s shoulders anywhere within the sphere.
They shot through the pitch-black void like a storm of lethal shrapnel, carrying the full, crushing might of a Domain Master’s essence.
