Chapter 326: Korryn VS Marcellis – I
Across the entire breadth of the Solathane Dynasty, thousands upon thousands of colossal projection arrays shimmered in every major city, every minor township, and every remote border settlement.
Hundreds of millions of eyes were glued to those glowing screens.
In Valdris City.
Deep within the serene bamboo grove of the Valdris Royal Academy, Dean Qaylus, and Old Dean watched silently.
Meanwhile, within the secure courtyards of the Valdris Royal Academy, Seris, Liana, Lyra, and Elara watched the glowing screen. Seris’s delicate hands were tightly clasped together against her chest, silently praying for her husband’s victory.
-----------------
Not far away, within the sprawling ancestral estate of the Vaelstrum Clan.
The eyes of Vaelstrum Patriarch and Ancestor were locked closely onto the projection.
The fate of their Ancestor’s life rested on the shoulders of the dignified man on the screen.
------------------
Thousands of miles to the west, in Stormveil City.
Dean Carmilla, and Vice Dean Myrielle were looking at the broadcast.
Along her were the High Preceptors, and Preceptors — Aldren, Octavius, Mordecai, Erasmus, Amarantha, and the recently promoted Preceptor Fabian, whose breakthrough to the Domain Master Realm had been entirely thanks to Rhain’s single lecture on the Law of Wind.
All of them stared at the projection without blinking.
"He will win," Carmilla stated firmly.
-------------------
Far away from the Inner Province, in the Mirravele City,
Guild Master Aldric looked at the massive projection array in the guild’s main hall.
He stared at the dignified, middle-aged face of Grandmaster Korryn with a stupified expression.
He had heard the sensational rumors of the Celestial Elixir Pavilion’s backer sharing the same name as the mysterious master who had bestowed upon him the Epic-Grade formulas.
But he had thought it was merely a coincidence.
Now looking at the screen, the reality crashed down upon his mind.
"Master!" Aldric suddenly screamed, tears of reverence streaming down his old face. "It’s him! The legendary Grandmaster Korryn... HE IS MY MASTER!"
He proudly shouted the earth-shattering revelation to his entire bewildered Alchemy Guild, leaving hundreds of alchemists completely dumbfounded.
--------------------
In another luxurious estate within Mirravele City, Patriarch Aurelian and Old Patriarch Solas of the Silvercrest Clan watched the broadcast with awe.
"What an extraordinary figure," Solas murmured, stroking his beard as he studied the dignified man on the screen. "To possess the courage to challenge the Alchemy Emperor before the eyes of the entire dynasty... this Grandmaster Korryn is either the most courageous man of our era, or the most audacious madman."
Aurelian nodded solemnly. "Regardless of the outcome, his name will be etched into the history of the Solathane Dynasty forever."
Neither of them had the faintest clue that the exalted Grandmaster standing upon Cloud’s Apex and commanding the attention of the Emperor on the screen was the very same nineteen-year-old youth who had once casually strolled into their estate, diagnosed their two-hundred-year-old bloodline curse with a single glance, and refined the cure that had saved their entire lineage from extinction.
-------------------
In a grand sect located at the edge of the city, the upper echelons of the Azure Cloud Sect had gathered.
Sect Master Harmon, Great Elder Silas, Third Elder Thorne, Fourth Elder Torin, and Elder Maren watched intently.
They were also clueless that they were looking at their own Supreme Elder, Rhain, in disguise.
Standing alongside the sect elders were their staunch allies: Dorris and Roderick Graves, and the wealthy merchant Fenwick Luo.
Behind them stood their top young talents—Victor, Hale, and Bria, all of them had successfully reached the Essence Condensation Realm, surpassing the young talents of the two major Solari and Silvercrest clans.
Unbeknownst to the general public, Declan Rowe watched the projection quietly from the estate.
Standing invisibly around the perimeter were several Core Formation experts and the god-like Domain Master experts dispatched by the Valdris Royal Academy.
It was a formidable force secretly stationed there by Rhain’s network to completely protect his roots from any royal retaliation.
----------------------
Back atop Cloud’s Apex.
Emperor Haldrion’s unfathomable gaze locked onto the middle-aged man standing before him.
"Grandmaster Korryn," Haldrion’s voice resonated across the mountaintop, "Before we begin, I have a question for you."
The hundreds of millions of citizens watching through the projection arrays clearly heard his voice.
"You appeared seemingly out of nowhere," Haldrion asked in a probing tone, "We could not find any proof that links you to any major established power of my dyansty. No one knows who you truly are or where you came from. Inspite of that, your pills have shaken the foundation of this entire dynasty."
Emperor Haldrion’s eyes sharpened.
"Where did you learn your alchemy? And what is the true purpose of your Celestial Elixir Pavilion?"
It was a question that hundreds of millions of people had been desperate to hear answered.
Rhain met the Emperor’s gaze without a single ripple of fear.
"Your Majesty," Rhain replied calmly, "I am merely a wandering alchemist who has spent his years in pursuit of the pinnacle of the path of Alchemy. I truly have no sect, no grand lineage, and nor any kind of political ambitions."
"As for the Celestial Elixir Pavilion, its purpose is equally simple. I wished to share the fruits of my lifelong learning with the world, and sustain my continued pursuit of perfection through the wealth it generates. Nothing more, and nothing less."
It was a blatant, non-committal brush-off to the supreme ruler of the dynasty!
Emperor Haldrion’s eyes narrowed slightly, but he did not press the issue.
"Very well," Haldrion stated coldly. "Then let this duel commence. Prove your so-called perfection."
Alchemy Emperor Marcellis stepped forward, his flowing white beard fluttering in the mountain breeze.
His ancient eyes were filled with calmness.
"The rules of this duel dictated that the Royal Court would select the pill," Marcellis announced, his voice amplified to ensure the entire dynasty heard him clearly.
He stroked his long beard, a condescending sneer forming on his lips.
"I choose the Niravana Golden Marrow Pill. It is a foundational standard among Emperor-Grade pills."
Inwardly, a mocking sneer crossed Marcellis’s mind.
He had refined this exact pill countless times over the past centuries.
He knew its elemental clashes and temperature thresholds like the back of his own hand, allowing him to effortlessly push it to an extraordinarily high degree of perfection.
By choosing this, he was guaranteeing his victory.
Marcellis looked at Rhain scornfully. "Since you boast the title of a supreme Grandmaster, and claim your methods are flawless, a fundamental Emperor-Grade pill like this should be familiar to you."
The crowd murmured in agreement. Any alchemist who dared to challenge the Alchemy Emperor must surely have a vast repertoire of Emperor-Grade recipes.
Rhain looked at Marcellis and stated bluntly, "No!"
"I have never refined this specific pill before."
The millions watching through the projection arrays were struck dumb.
He had never refined it before?!
What kind of Grandmaster is he?
Marcellis froze for a second before a harsh, mocking laugh erupted from his chest.
"Never refined it?" Marcellis sneered, his eyes filled with disdain. "Are you trying to fall back on your word? Are you looking for an excuse to back out of this duel now that you stand before me?"
He waved his hand magnanimously, though his tone was dripping with venom.
"If you are scared, say so. I don’t expect a street-peddling fraud to keep his promises anyway! If you are incapable, I can allow you to choose the pill instead. I will still crush you!"
Down in the audience, Crown Prince Lucius smirked.
The humiliation of Korryn had already begun.
But standing in the center of the arena, Rhain simply let out an amused chuckle as if he had heard a funny joke.
"Who said I am backing away?" Rhain asked.
He placed his hands casually behind his back.
"We will be refining the exact same pill you suggested. I have no problem with your choice." Rhain stated calmly. "I just need to see the pill formula."
The entire mountain peak descended into an eerie silence.
Then, Marcellis’s face twisted into an incredibly ugly grimace.
"A pill formula?" Marcellis spat angrily. "What a nice, shameless tactic to delay the duel without losing face! Do you take the Royal Court for fools?!"
Marcellis pointed a trembling finger at Rhain.
"To master a completely new Emperor-Grade pill formula, an alchemist needs to practice and comprehend the elemental clashes for decades! What are you going to say next? That you just want to ’learn’ the formula today, and we should postpone the duel for a year or two while you practice?"
The aristocrats and nobles in the stands immediately began to jeer.
"He’s stalling!"
"What a coward!"
Rhain’s expression didn’t change as if he could not hear the insults raining down on him.
He simply raised his hand, cutting off Marcellis’s furious rant.
"Half an hour," Rhain interrupted, his chilling voice slicing through the noise like a blade of ice.
Marcellis raised an eyebrow in surprise, "What?"
"I don’t need a year, not even a day," Rhain stated with a god-like confidence that shocked the whole dynasty.
"I just need half an hour to learn it on the spot."
