Sin System: Demonic Harem After Reincarnation
Chapter 265. The Early Battle (5)Chapter 265: 265. The Early Battle (5)
When the Archbishop looked over, Tiara couldn’t help but flinch even though they were quite a distance apart. Warning alarms had already rang in her mind.
But before she could inform Issac, the Hell Knight’s own heightened sense of danger caused him to dodge sideways.
On top of the wall, a humongous spear of light suddenly lit up from one of the west-side bastions, instantly flying up to the lone enemy commander.
Even though Issac dogged, the radiant spear redirected itself in midair, as if it had a mind of its own.
"Interesting, an esteemed Archbishop is resorting to sneak attacks." Issac jumped in midair and swiped vertically downward.
A dark red aura conjured up in front of him, blocking the spear of light which rapidly purified the hellish mana. This purification process finally spent the energy sustaining that spear as it fizzled into golden sparks before disappearing.
"Indeed, you are a baleful existence who must be cleansed." Joseph narrowed his eyes as he approached at his own pace.
His voice seemed to break the concealment effect on his body as everyone else also sensed his holy presence.
The generals fighting earlier finally sighed in relief but still kept their guards up, loosely encircling the hell knight whose eyes darted around.
To be honest, most of the cannons on the middle and eastern side of the south wall were already damaged. His job was done so Issac had no intention of entangling with the enemy anymore.
Before the Archbishop suddenly sneaked up on him, Issac wanted to at least kill one of the generals to further lower the enemy morale. Yet, he couldn’t guarantee leaving without being injured seriously at the moment.
Although Joseph Lightgold couldn’t force Issac into a corner by himself, the 4th circle generals were certainly a nuisance.
Earlier, he was fending them all off because their attacks could not break his superior defense.
But now, a 5th circle Archbishop was targeting him as well. Issac would be put in a dire straits if even one of Joseph’s attacks hit him directly.
That was the suppression effect holy mana had on any evil powers in this world. Although demons were naturally better and rivalled dragons in terms of magic, holiness was their bane.
To truly counter the power of faith, one had to reach the status of at least a 7th Circle Archdemon. At that point, you would be able to freely exert influence on the laws of this world, which favoured the power of faith and by extension, holy mana.
You could even casually break the plane space and head into dimensional subspaces, completely avoiding the said laws. This was one of the ways how 7th Circlers actually bypassed the 6th Circle limit and remained in the Origin World, albeit slightly suppressed.
However, Issac was far from reaching that stage. He immediately jumped down from the wall, trying to escape the Archbishop who was clearly in his peak state.
Joseph seemed to have grasped the thought process of his enemy. Before Issac could descend, a golden halo spread out from the staff that Joseph was holding.
This golden halo had a restrictive property that locked the space it lit up for a couple seconds.
Silver flames came alive in Issac’s eye sockets. He could feel being suspended a few feet off the wall, unable to move his body for a brief moment.
However, he was still able to channel his mana, which allowed him to instinctively put up a defense.
Ripples seemed to form in midair as the 5th Circle Archbishop took a casual step, quietly arriving above the Hell Knight.
His Grace, Joseph Lightgold, then spread open his arms as he would during a mass, solemnly declaring, "Feel the light’s embrace, the gift of God!"
This declaration seemed to tap into a reservoir of the faith gathered in the city. It was then converted into endless holy mana, which was guided by the Archbishop’s will.
In an instant, pure white magic circles popped up above the skies of Ulford, connecting into a gigantic holy array.
The clouds seemed to part, giving way to a wide ray of golden light which descended on the Hell Knight. It was as if the sun was concentrating on him.
On the battlefield, every creature stopped for a moment and looked blankly at this spectacle.
The defense that Issac had put up could only withstand for half a second. However, this sudden energy also changed the restriction in space, allowing him to move.
Thus, Issac disregarded everything and used all of his hellish mana to escape the range of this epic holy spell.
Even so, he could not avoid a direct hit. Parts of Issac’s demonic body visibly burned, unable to be regenerated. He could feel his very soul being purified, causing his rank to fluctuate.
When he finally escaped the spell, the hell knight’s condition was horrible. He had lost one of his arms and parts of his head and torso were missing. It was as if he was a burnt paper figurine.
Knowing that the Archbishop would take some time to move after using such a great ability, Issac entered the monster wave which was starting to retreat.
However, another commotion attracted the attention of everyone on the battlefield.
Fire serpent!
Just as the Archbishop was spotted on the walls, Tiara and the remaining mages had decided to summon the spirit no matter the cost.
But setting up a pentagonal array required some parts of the summoning chant to be tweaked. Under the pressure of war, they unfortunately couldn’t provide the assistance in time.
Still, they immediately told the summoned spirit to target the enemy archbishop so that he couldn’t pursue the injured Issac.
After such a devastating blow, the druid and the dark mages on the other end of the battlefield were distracted for a brief moment. This finally let Bors catch a breather.
Using a wide area wind attack, he retreated as quickly as possible to regroup with Joseph who was battling the summoned spirit.
On the way, he shot a glance toward the Hell Knight who was surrounded by Ash and the elven powerhouses. The others were also coming to aid Issac.
’He won’t be much of an issue for the rest of the battle, I shouldn’t risk it...’ Bors, as the chief commander of a kingdom, knew when to retreat.
