Chapter 10. Is It Appropriate?

Rosa Lin’s POV

"It’s a pleasure seeing you again." His voice resonated in my ears, but I was so dumbstruck at this point to even know what to reply to him

I opened my mouth, but nothing came out as I looked up at him. He stared at me with a smirk on his face, leaning against the door edge, folding his arms, his eyes raking all over my body. I felt a prickly heat that followed his gaze, pressing against my skin like a heated laser. He watched me with amusement and then smiled before shaking his head.

"From the look of things, it appears you haven’t recovered from your shock, init?" he asked.

I blinked rapidly and chuckled nervously, quickly shaking my head and staring at the ground shyly. Heat bloomed all over my body.

OH MY GOD!!!! I thought to myself, suddenly becoming breathless.

"And you do not remember me," he said.

I frowned, looking up at him. I knew his face was somewhat familiar. Who is he? I tilted my head to the side, watching him with squinted eyelids, trying to remember.

He chuckled and shook his head. "Yup, you definitely do not remember me," he said. "Now I kind of feel hurt," he said, his arms folded, looking at me with both of his eyebrows raised.

I chuckled and darted my head towards so many different directions in confusion, grinding my teeth together. "I am sorry, I don’t know. It’s just... I don’t know. I can’t... I don’t even know what I’m saying right now."

He chuckled. "Relax, okay? I’m not grilling you," he said.

I breathed. "Can you please remind me?" I asked.

He smiled and nodded. "Well, we have not actually officially met and spent a long time together, so I understand if you do not actually remember me, but I’m your dad’s stepbrother," he said.

I frowned and gazed to the side, trying to grasp and remember if there was someone like that. My mind went back to memories I never wanted to go back to.

"You might not remember," he continued, "but there was a certain summer when a man gave you a gift with a little trinket and a golden rose kind of necklace embedded on it."

My eyes widened, and I tilted my head to look at him. "Oh, that was far too long ago," I said. "I was in my early teens when that happened. Oh my God," I said softly, and he chuckled.

"You remember me now, right?" he asked, and I tilted my head to the side, unable to keep the smile off my face.

"Okay, I remember you now," I said, and he smiled with amusement.

"That’s great. Now I don’t feel hurt anymore."

I rolled my eyes. "It’s great to see you again, Mr. Don," I said.

"It’s good to see you too, Rosa. You have actually grown up quiet well," he said.

I saw his eyes linger against my chest, and suddenly felt my cheeks blossom. I folded my arms, trying to secure the exposed area of my chest, and ground my teeth.

This is all your fault, Mia, I thought to myself, my eyelids fluttering and my eyes flickering from side to side with nervousness, biting my bottom lip.

"You are gradually turning into an adult," he said, "developing wonderful shapes in all the right places."

Oh my God. Is he seriously saying that to me right now? I ground my teeth together, my eyelids fluttering uncontrollably as I began to brush my fingers through my hair shyly.

"I love the way you styled your hair," he said. He stepped closer and brushed his hand once again against it, tracing the length and pulling out a strand to the side.

At this point, I instantly froze, tilting my head up to look at him, totally dumbstruck. He looked at my hair, and then I saw the moment his dark brown eyes moved to stare straight into my eyes. My lips hung slightly apart as a breath escaped them. My heart began to pound so rapidly, faster than ever before!

Oh my God, I think I’m going to pass out right now. I felt my cheeks swell up. I couldn’t contain it.

Look away, Rosa! I needed to look away, anywhere apart from this stupid cute face raging stupid hormones in my body right now.

I suddenly began to hiccup. Hic! Hic!

He jerked his hand quickly, dropping it down from my hair when the hiccup sound escaped me, and he looked at me with worry. "I’m sorry, are you okay? What’s that?" he asked.

I chuckled. "No...Hic...I’m...Hic... Sorry...Hic...it’s nothing...Hic!"

He chuckled softly. I saw the amusement in his eyes. "Oh, sorry, dear. It’s okay. Come in, let me get you a cup of water."

"Thank...Hic... you," I said as he chuckled once again and turned around, heading back inside the apartment.

I followed closely behind him, feeling my face red with embarrassment.

Oh my God, Rosa, of all times!!

The hiccups didn’t stop. I felt my body jerking at intervals as they escaped me countless times. I shut the door behind me.

Hic!

Oh, come on! I thought to myself.

I collapsed back against a chair. Hic! Fuck you, hiccups! I thought to myself. Hic!

He finally came back with a cup of water, a smile on his lips, and handed it over to me.

I smiled at him. "Hic, thank you, hic!"

He chuckled. "Drink the water fast. It will help you reduce it."

I quickly drained the entire cup of water. I relaxed back against the chair as it finally subsided and stopped, and then I took a deep breath, looking at the ground and using my hair to shield my face.

He stood in front of me. "Are you okay? What was that?"

I slowly lifted my head to look up at him and brushed strands of hair away from my face, handing him the cup. "Thank you," I said.

He held the cup, still looking at me, expecting a reply.

I chuckled nervously and looked to the side, fiddling with my fingers. "It’s nothing. I kind of hiccup whenever I get a little bit nervous," I said, and he smiled.

"Really? Were you nervous talking to me right now?" he asked, and he squatted in front of me, making it impossible to avoid his gaze now as I stared down into his eyes.

I turned my head to the side, shaking my head. "No, I wasn’t. I was just..."

I froze.

"You were just what?" he asked.

I looked back at him, and the smirk on his face told me he was enjoying seeing me worked up.

I blinked so faintly.

"Nothing," I said and shook my head. I quickly got up.

He looked up and chuckled, pushing up from the ground and standing upright. I stared ahead, finding my gaze planted on his chest as I rubbed my palms on either side of my hips. When I looked up at him, he was still staring at me with that amusement dancing in his eyes, like he found me interesting.

Oh my God, run into a hole, Rosa, I thought to myself. I blinked and suddenly remembered.

"Oh." I dug my hand into my pocket and took out the keys.

I stretched my hand towards him. "Thank you so much for the job you gave me," I said, staring at my hand with the keys still in it. It was visibly shaking.

Oh my God! What is your problem, Rosa? I thought to myself. Steel yourself. I tried to keep my hand stable, but it wouldn’t stop shaking. I avoided his gaze, keeping my focus on my trembling hand.

"I really appreciate the job," I said. "The job has actually gone quite well for me. Now I understand why it was easy and how you knew me. I was a little bit shocked when my name was mentioned. Thanks so much for the favor. Turns out you were my long-forgotten family member all the while."

He hesitated. Then I heard him breathe out.

"You are welcome," he replied, chuckling.

I nodded my head. My heart was pounding so fast in my chest. This is it! I thought to myself. This is the moment. He was going to take his keys, and that was going to be the end. I was never coming back to this beautiful villa again. I was never going to see it again.

I breathed out, feeling the sadness prickle in my chest. My hand still remained frozen, hovering in the air close to him. He didn’t take the keys. I frowned, tilting my head to look up at him. I saw that he was staring at the keys in my hand, then he slowly lifted his eyes to look back at me.

" I can tell you really don’t want to go." He said.

I blinked. He watched me for a while and then smiled. Then he stepped closer, took hold of my palm, and closed my hand around the keys, his large hand covering mine. I looked at my hand, watching his large hand enclosed around mine, my lips trembling as I frowned in confusion. I looked back at him.

"Don’t bother about it," he said, forcing me to flinch.

I blinked again. "What?" I asked.

He chuckled. "I said you shouldn’t bother about returning the keys."

I felt my brain spin. Okay, I thought to myself, what the hell is that supposed to mean?

I remained frozen, taken aback, looking up at him as he kept his large, masculine, warm palm wrapped around mine, sending a trail of heat through my hand straight into my chest and increasing the rapid beating of my heart.

I am definitely going to have myself checked after this. I needed to ensure I haven’t gotten high blood pressure because of this man. My eyelids blinked uncontrollably as he stepped even closer until there was very little space between us. I could feel the heat from him. I had to tilt my head back all the more to stare into his eyes as he looked down at me.

"I am aware you don’t have anywhere else to go," he said, his voice thick, vibrating through my body.

I swallowed hard. The lump in my throat felt heavy. My heart wouldn’t stop pounding. My vision felt a little bit blurry as I looked up at him. He was so close!

"I have actually taken my time to think about it, and I think it should be the best option. As your relative and the only one around and close by to you, it would be in my interest to take care of you and watch over you," he said. "So why don’t you stay with me?"

I gasped, as though I had been hit by a freight train. My hands shook in his hands. Okay, am I seriously listening to him asking me to stay with him in this large villa together? I thought to myself, my eyes widening.

He chuckled. He lifted one of his hands and brushed it slightly against my cheek, removing strands of hair from my face and tucking them behind my ear.

Oh my God! He should stop! I thought to myself, tilting my head to the side to avoid his hand touching my face again. He should really stop that.

I looked back at him. He was smiling. "So what do you say?" he said, tilting his head to the side, gazing at me with his eyebrows raised. I saw the expectation in his eyes, like he wanted me to stay, like he clearly thought my staying with him was an excitement and was going to be a good idea.

But is it really?

I don’t know what to think about this. He is a lecturer and a dean, clearly an adult, and I am just one of the students in his school. Also, he is my lecturer. Is it really appropriate for me to stay and live together with him?
