Chapter 59: Chapter 59. Something For Her To Eat
Chapter 59. Something For Her To Eat
The air around both of them felt suspended. After she had stated her request, she said nothing else. She remained still where she sat, staring at him with wide eyes, a pounding heartbeat, and an anticipation so tight it felt like her nerves were about to snap.
She saw the way his eyes remained blank and serious as he watched her, tracing every expression on her face. Then, all of a sudden, his lips slowly expanded into a smile. It was a prickling, hot, intense, dark amusement that didn’t make his glistening naked body any easier for her to bear.
Her eyelids fluttered uncontrollably. Jesus, what is he smiling at me like that for? she thought, suddenly feeling her hands trembling for reasons she couldn’t understand. She clapped her palms together, swallowed hard, and quickly avoided his gaze by looking off to the side.
"What the hell is your problem? Why are you suddenly smiling?" she muttered through clenched teeth.
He didn’t say anything for a fraction of a minute, and that only made everything worse. It felt like he was doing it on purpose—dragging out the torture and enjoying the dark amusement he felt toward her. It was probably because she was being proud in front of him.
He chuckled. "Well, like I said," he said calmly, looking to the side. "You looks so cute when you are embarrassed and nervous."
She scoffed and rolled her eyes. "Cheesy as fuck," she said.
She heard him chuckle beside her. Then he shrugged. "Well, it’s fine. You should have just said from the beginning that you wanted to use my studio, rather than hopping on my entrance and staring at me like you wanted to eat me alive."
She flashed her eyes toward him, giving him a look sharp enough to kill.
He smirked at her and winked—actually winked. "I’m heading over toward my room to just relax a little bit. Suit yourself, feel free. I mean, it’s your home. You are the one who is being stubborn not to take advantage of it," he said. Then he turned around and walked away.
She didn’t move. She watched the muscles of his back ripple as he walked up the staircase, catching the faint line of ink she had noticed on his shoulder, dripping down his back in a stylish pattern.
She squinted her eyes. That tattoo, she thought to herself with a frown, tilting her head to the side. It’s so weird. It feels like I recognize it, but goodness, I haven’t seen that tattoo anywhere before.
She tilted her head, her face blank briefly, before shaking it off. Forget about it, Rosa. Just fucking forget about it. It’s your first time seeing it. Your mind is probably playing tricks on you.
Thank goodness, Lord, he did not fucking tease me.
She breathed out and packed her books. Turning to the staircase one last time, she saw that he had already vanished into his room. Excitement bubbled in her chest. It had been God knew how long since the last time she had walked into that studio. It was probably the day shift when he finally came back after a month away, leaving her to take care of the mansion.
She pressed her books against her chest, and quickly rushed across the living room, scampering up the staircase. Reaching the landing, she swerved to the left in the direction of the studio. She stopped before the door, staring at the electronic keypad, and typed in the keycode.
I really hope he hasn’t changed it, she thought.
It was still the same. She smiled as it clicked and unlocked instantly. Pushing it open, she stepped inside.
Her eyes widened as the familiar scent of the darkened studio flooded her senses. She closed her eyes and angled her head back toward the ceiling. "Peace," she said softly. "All I can smell and sense is heavenly peace."
She opened her eyes, smiled brightly, and stared at the large music recording equipment, the speakers, the MIDI boards, and the microphones. She chuckled and walked over, sitting down in the main chair and dropping her books on the seat beside her.
"God, I have so missed this place," she murmured with a bright smile, tracing her fingers against the mixer.
She raked her fingers through her hair and checked her wristwatch. Oh shit, time is going! I really do not have all the time in the world, she thought to herself. Okay, I guess I need to get to work then.
She scrambled through her notebooks—pages filled with notes.
She flipped one open with excitement, her eyes gleaming as she found a piece she had written a long time ago—lyrics she had taken her time to formulate. She saw the solfa notes she had placed on top together with the written words. She scrutinized it, her eyes running through every single word she had broken down, trying her best to remember the melody.
Tilting her head to the side, she hummed softly to herself, pointing her fingers in the air at various intervals. As the tune slowly drifted back into her mind, she smiled.
Okay, got it, she thought.
She dropped the notebook, stood up from the mixer, and walked straight over to the piano. Sitting down, she placed her hands on the keys, pressing them slowly and tuning her ears to check if it was the correct tone.
It sounded off. She flinched and stared back at the notebook. "Oh, my bad," she murmured to herself.
She picked the right notes and continued tapping against the keys. She allowed the rest of the melody to flow through her fingers, her hands gliding over the keys with precision. Closing her eyes, a bright smile spread across her lips as she hummed along, completely lost in the moment.
She was totally unaware of the fully dressed figure leaning against the frame of the open studio door, watching her with a raised eyebrow and a smile on his face.
Don chuckled and shook his head, watching the way Rosa swayed her head from left to right, humming loudly and flowing her fingers through the keyd like a little child playing a toy.
Well, isn’t that interesting? he thought to himself. Never thought I would see that level of happiness embedded on her face just by doing what she loves.
He chuckled and shook his head again. She’s really that good, he thought.
All of a sudden, a frown crossed his face. He looked away from her and stared at the ground. You made a fucking promise to yourself, Don. Can you explain what the hell you are doing here? Can you explain what that was?
He remembered back in the living room—teasing her and leaning in close like he wanted to eat her alive. He closed his eyes and squeezed his eyelids tight. Good Lord, he sighed.
Opening his eyes slowly, he looked back at her across the studio. What am I going to do with this girl? he thought, shaking his head as he turned away. It’s so fucking hard.
I need to give her some space.
He stepped out and gently shut the door, pausing in front of it with a frown on his forehead as he stared at the floor.
How much longer can I hold on until I suddenly snap and fucking lose my mind? he thought.
He squared his shoulders and blew out a breath with his eyes closed. Just forget about it. She must be hungry, the thought crossed his mind immediately. Yeah, maybe I should prepare something for her to eat.
Right?
