Chapter 743: Chapter 743: An Anomaly (Part 1)

Point-of-View: Leto Nex/Reaper, The Undead King

———————————————————————————

"It’s almost time, not much longer now," I smirked as I stared up at the sky, a pleasant breeze blowing across.

Today’s the 30th of June, 2172, it’s been about two months since I became undead. And things have been progressing nicely, my forces are all but ready now.

I’m close to having maxed out the capacity of my undead forces, but I plan to keep a few vacant slots to add the X-Aces to. Currently, I’ve sent some of my weaker forces out to search for more powerful creatures to add to my ranks.

I’ve got a good mix of quality and quantity among my undead forces at this point, but it certainly won’t hurt to add a few more options. Luck has really been on my side with my hunts for powerful Mutants lately, so why not push it a little further?

And soon, very soon, I’ll make my move. I’ll attack and destroy one of the Sanctuaries, and when the X-Aces inevitably show up, I’ll add them to my forces too, and then-...hm?

One of the groups of weaker undead forces I sent out just got destroyed. I can sense where my undead soldiers are at any distance, so I know which direction to go.

Whatever just wiped out this group must be pretty strong, the entire group was cut down in an instant. But I’m not too worried. Whatever it is, I’ll just overwhelm it with my forces and kill it.

Now, then...

"<Summon Undead: Slot 0001>," I chanted, summoning the Teleporter I’d turned.

He placed his hand on my shoulder, before my surroundings changed as he teleported forward in the direction where I’d sensed my forces disappear.

It took a few more teleports before we reached that spot, my eyes widening slightly. The group I’d sent here had been torn apart, reduced to a scattered pile of body parts all around the area.

And right up ahead, was a cave. Whatever did this, is it in there? If so...well, then, that makes this easy.

"<Summon Undead: Slots 0072 to 0081>," I chanted with a smirk, summoning ten undead Fire Foxes.

They’re a Critical Level Mutant species, fox creatures that can fire and generate flames. They mostly look the same as regular foxes, though their fur is a slightly more vibrant, fiery orange, and they’re bigger than regular foxes, closer to the size of wolves.

Anyway, as they appeared before, I had them gather around the entrance of the cave, before snapping open their jaws and unleashing blazing waves of flames into the cave entrance in unison.

I withdrew my Teleporter, just to be safe. He’s way too convenient, it’d be a huge waste to lose him. I’ll keep him withdrawn until I kill whatever cut down my forces...if there is a powerful creature in there, I’ll roast it alive and then-...! Huh?

Suddenly, the flames ceases and dissipated as a rapid blur zipped out of the cave. Several thuds echoed out as the heads of my Fire Foxes fell off and hit the ground, their bodies promptly collapsing right after.

What...what just happened? Not only were all ten of them decapitated, but their Cores were slashed too. And it happened too fast to see. What the hell-...?

"What an unpleasant, foul existence you bear. What are you?"

I froze as a deep, ominous voice echoed out from behind me, before I manifested my Death Scythe and spun around as fast as I could, swinging my weapon across-...

My eyes widened in alarm as my right arm got sliced off in the blink of an eye, something slashing through the middle of my bicep before I could react.

I backed away frantically as my arm regenerated, my scythe flying back towards me as I got some distance, before eyeing the figure that had attacked me with a grimace. What...what in the world am I looking at?

A humanoid creature covered from head to toe in a jet-black exoskeleton. It didn’t have hands, instead a pair of curved black blades over its wrists, where hands would normally be.

It was about six feet in height, with a strong, agile build. It had a pair of small holes on either side of its head, where ears would normally be, and narrow, glowing red slits for eyes. There was no visible nose or mouth on its face.

Its feet had three toes with sharp claws on them, and it had a pair of wings on its back, folded in. But more than anything, that Aura...how the hell is it so intense?

"I’ve got the same question for you, actually. What the hell are you, huh?" I responded, quietly using Appraisal on the creature:

N-No way, it’s even more powerful than I am, wh-what the fuck is this thing?! Also, what the fuck do you means it’s only twenty-eight days old?!

"I do not know."

"What do you mean, you don’t know? Where did you come from?" I inquired with a grimace.

"I do not know. I woke up in this cave, with no prior memories."

No memories? What the hell is going on here?

"How are you able to speak English? You’re obviously not human, and you don’t seem to be a Mutant. Are you from another world or something?" I frowned in response.

Also, how is it talking without a mouth? I can clearly hear it, it isn’t using telepathy or whatever.

"No, I do not believe so. I do not have memories, but I do have knowledge. Upon gaining consciousness, I realized that a large amount of information and knowledge had been injected into my mind, I am yet to process all of it.

Based on what I have processed and comprehended, I believe I am indeed what humans refer to as Mutants, but I am different to the other creatures under this classification, an irregularity of sorts. It seems I am the only one of my kind, no others like me exist."

"Huh, so you’re some kind of Mutant anomaly? Okay, I think I get it now...you certainly are powerful, impressively so," I remarked, as I calmed myself down.

If I can get this thing in my forces, I won’t even need the X-Aces, I-...

"I have indulged you enough, I only played along since this is the first opportunity I have had to converse with another being. However, this vile, aberrant existence, I cannot tolerate it. You, who desecrate and enslave the dead, must be exterminated," He uttered, the glowing slits of his eyes narrowing at me...
