Honestly till this day I still didn’t get the answer I needed from Niko about the black flames. I was expecting to get something out of him when I first talked to him after the battle at the crossroads.
I was wrong.
A year since we protected Aldion from an attack that could’ve devasted them.
I’ve gotten a lot more comfortable with how things work around Fort Mythos, having people to talk to, and even the progress with Sylvia.
We have continued to share the same bed and have only gotten closer over the last year. Onyx has also come to trust me a lot more which is good.
"Kain!" Laz calls out.
I turn around to see Laz approaching. A smile is on his face and he appears to be carrying something.
"What’s up?" I question.
"Onyx wanted me to give you this since he doesn’t want you getting killed because of no protection. I’d say this is a good sign."
"Sign of what?"
"Him caring about your life obviously. He doesn’t want people to die but he really does care when he provides the protection."
"I’ll have to thank him later."
I look down at the box now that he is standing in front of me.
"All yours man," Laz says while handing the box over to me.
With that I take the box from him. It definitely has a bit of weight to it which tells me quite a bit about the contents inside.
Lift.
Inside of the box is a mix of small pieces of black armor.
I didn’t expect to have my own armor any time soon. It wasn’t something I really thought about much when I was going around fighting the dragons outside of Zameref.
"Thank you. I’ll have to make sure to thank Onyx."
"Definitely. But we should get something to eat."
Laz laughs for a moment.
"Let me sit this armor down before we do that."
I sit down the box inside of my tent and then make my way back over to Laz. We head off to the tavern that resides within the fort and it is definitely pretty busy.
It is a newer thing that was built over the last year.
"I’m so hungry!" Laz shouts.
"That’s why we are here Laz."
He laughs once again as we make our way over to a table.
I definitely could use a bite to eat this morning. Sylvia is busy as well so this is nice to get a bit of a break.
~Need a break from her already?
Not necessarily, just in general it is nice.
Everything here lately has been a nice break from the normal everyday experiences I used to have. And the break part is more about the visions than anything else.
I haven’t seen anything in a long time which is a relief.
~Keeping your focus away from it definitely helps.
It does. Seeing it like I was didn’t help me whatsoever. It just made me rush things and worry about a situation that isn’t even here yet.
I’ll have to do my best to prevent it from happening one day, but I’ll get there.
Thud. Thud.
Two mugs are sat down in front of us which immediately takes me out of my head.
I look up to see a burly man with a rough beard staring back at me.
"What do you both want to eat?" He asks.
Laz doesn’t even hesitate.
"Ooo! I definitely want chicken with some rice."
The man notes it down before looking over towards me.
"Just some stew would be great."
"Alright I’ll be back in a bit with the food for you both."
We both just nod our heads.
He walks away and then Laz immediately looks back towards me. I can tell he is eager to talk today for some reason.
"So what is the deal with you and Sylvia?" Laz asks curiously.
"What about us? I think we are doing pretty good."
Have things really been that good lately? I guess they have.
I just haven’t thought too much about it since I have been getting used to living here. Sylvia seems to be doing well too.
"Pretty good?"
"Yeah. It hasn’t been anything too crazy to talk about."
"Are you two dating?" He asks curiously.
Dating? I didn’t even think much about that.
Again... Everything with love and relationships is very new. I’ve never really experienced it until recently.
"I don’t really know."
"You guys definitely look like you are."
"What makes you think that?"
"You sleep together, eat together, kind of everything together. Hahaha."
He isn’t wrong.
We do spend a lot of time together when we aren’t busy fighting against dragons. I didn’t think we gave such an impression but I think I should talk to her about it.
~A good conversation to have when you both clearly feel the same way.
Ahh. I’m just not the greatest at expressing any of this.
~It takes time to get used to.
It definitely does.
"You aren’t wrong. I just didn’t look at it that way."
He laughs a bit more and the man finally comes back after a few minutes with the food.
I look down to see the stew before me. It looks amazing and smells fantastic.
Meat and potatoes are definitely hard to beat.
But I find myself glancing over towards Laz’s chicken and rice. It looks just as good as my food.
"Regretting your choice?" He asks.
"No haha. Just thinking about how nice this is to have a good meal together."
I definitely feel lucky to be able to eat such an amazing meal again. I haven’t really had fresh cooking in a long time, other than back at home.
My mother used to make all sorts of home cooked meals. I miss it.
"Hahaha good. Let’s enjoy some good food then."
"Yes, let’s enjoy."
After that we enjoy our meals together as the morning passes by.
People talk about what’s going on in their lives and what’s to come with the dragons. It is kind of peaceful.
