Chapter 407 - Is Halon a Girl?!

Chapter 407: 407 - Is Halon a Girl?!

"We’re fully willing to follow orders." Dan replied firmly, giving a small nod of his head toward the fox. "We know playing in an elite group demands sync and respect for the hierarchy. We spent weeks fighting alone for survival, but we understand that the strength of a real guild lies in the mind guiding the blade, and we’ll respect every tactical command given to us in battle."

As the interview went on, the tense atmosphere in the meeting hall began to dissolve, giving way to a deep sense of satisfaction among the interviewers.

Dylan and Alice asked questions ranging from Dan’s elemental resistances to Sam’s ability to track invisible targets and their race’s overall capabilities.

The brothers’ answers were direct, logical, and far more sincere than they’d imagined they’d end up giving.

Even their weaknesses were named and explained. They knew handing over information like that would be extremely risky for them, but considering the experiences they’d had so far, the brothers decided to dive headfirst into it and hope their honesty would earn them their place in this new environment.

The interviewers quickly realized the immense potential that duo represented for Astralis.

Dan’s strength was a decay magic that didn’t act as just an ordinary debuff, it acted directly on the physical structure of its targets, wearing down armor and reducing enemies’ vitality regeneration in real time. It was a perfect force multiplier for a physical combat frontline like Alice.

And that wasn’t his only useful ability either. Dan had an extremely high magical talent, higher than anyone currently in Astralis, not counting Halon.

Considering Lohan had always wanted to develop his magical side, both in Elysium and in trying to bring that into the real world, having Dan around would be extremely helpful and important for his growth in that area.

Sam, on the other hand, represented a practically perfect scout.

His intangibility let him pass through physical obstacles and spy on enemy camps without triggering any ordinary alarm.

Most impressive of all was his possession potential, by invading the bodies of lower level creatures, Sam could create perfect tactical openings on the battlefield, breaking apart the enemy’s formation from the inside and forcing them to fight their own allies at critical moments in a fight.

At the end of the long interview, silence returned to the circular hall for a few seconds.

Dylan and Alice looked at each other, exchanging quick, meaningful glances. Every once in a while, both of them looked toward the white fox, who kept watching it all elegantly, giving no sign to the brothers that she’d been the whole time making comments or giving instructions to Dylan during the interview.

Suddenly, the fox raised one of her front paws, and a glowing blue chat screen floated in front of her golden eyes for a few moments as she typed out an invisible command and sent something to someone through the game’s communication network.

While this entirely silent conversation happened right in front of them, Dan and Sam finally started to piece together what was going on with that constant exchange of glances between the two.

The interviewers had been talking mentally the whole time through some kind of telepathy technique, exchanging assessments, criticisms, and tactical notes exactly the same way the two brothers did through their own minds.

Realizing that invisible communication network, a knot of anxiety and fear crushed the two rookies’ hearts once again.

They stood frozen under the weight of the silence, fearing the leaders were discussing some flaw in their bases, or that their unusual appearance was once again being used as grounds for rejection in the final phase of the recruitment process.

But to the two brothers’ happiness and absolute relief, the white fox closed the floating screen with a blink of her eyes and gave an affirmative nod toward Dylan.

Dylan broke into a warm smile that instantly dissolved every bit of the rigid recruiter aura he’d kept up until then.

He extended his right hand to Dan in a friendly greeting, not caring about the decrepit, almost dead look of that hand. "Welcome to Astralis Requiem, guys. Your assessment was spectacular, and we’ll be immensely proud to carry the same emblem as you two starting today."

Alice bounced up in her chair, clapping with joy. "That’s right! Welcome to our big family! I can’t wait to see Dan melt down our enemies’ defenses while I smash their faces in with my gauntlets!"

Dan and Sam let out long, trembling sighs of relief, feeling as though a ton of weight had been lifted off their souls. "Thank you so much, leaders," Dan said gratefully, his clouded eyes shining with genuine emotion. "We promise to give our absolute best to the guild."

It was then that the white fox moved, stepping down from the pedestal with graceful steps and stopping at the edge of the round table. In the next split second, a telepathic voice, incredibly cold, beautiful, and clearly feminine in tone, resonated directly in Dan and Sam’s minds.

"Congratulations on your success in the interview, Dan and Sam," Lisa’s voice sounded with authority and confidence. "Your determination in the Lower Zone and the pride you hold for your bases, which despite bringing great disadvantages, are actually great treasures, are exactly the qualities I look for in the members of our elite guild."

Hearing that feminine, clearly delicate voice echo in their minds, the two brothers’ eyes went wide in absolute shock. They exchanged a quick glance of disbelief, their minds hitting a complete tactical short circuit.

"The legendary Player Halon... is actually a girl?!" Dan transmitted mentally to Sam the shock he was feeling, his own perception crumbling in that moment. "The Player idolized by so many, who dominated the game’s global announcements... is actually a girl?!"

Just like Dan, Sam was in a state of complete shock hearing that beautiful feminine voice in his mind.

Not only did the sound of the name Halon carry an extremely masculine ring, but the Player who held the title of Elysium’s first Player Killer in their minds should have been a cold, arrogant, maybe even slightly deranged man, not a girl with a voice this delicate!!

Even though Lisa had formed her own mental link to them, she couldn’t break into the link already formed between the two of them.

If Lisa knew about the sexist comments running through the brothers’ minds, she would surely make them taste her Spirit Flames right that instant, but luckily for the brothers, only the two of them could hear what the other was thinking here.
