Slowly Falling into His Love Trap

Chapter 667: I Can’t Agree to the Divorce

On the mountain at night, the wind was strong. Evelyn could always hear sounds that made her skin crawl, and it seemed like something was following her between the bushes on both sides.

Summoning her courage, she kept walking forward. Not far ahead, a snake blocked the road, sticking out its blood-red tongue towards Evelyn.

"Ah—"

Evelyn screamed in fright and instinctively started running back.

She didn’t dare look back, and in her mind, she imagined the snake’s gaping mouth, feeling powerless as she stumbled to the ground, yet forcing herself to muster the strength to flee, in total panic.

"Evelyn!" Not far away, Caden Lockwood’s voice came, "I’m here! Evelyn!"

Evelyn, so frightened she almost lost her hearing, knew only to run for her life.

When Caden’s large hand grabbed her, she was trembling all over with fear.

She shut her eyes tightly, wildly waving her arms and shouting, "Don’t touch me! Woohoo— I don’t want to die yet! I’m not afraid of you! I’m telling you, I’m not afraid of you!"

Seeing Evelyn’s pale face full of tear streaks, with that fearful and helpless look, Caden felt a deep ache in his heart.

Damn it!

What on earth had he done?

He held her tightly in his arms, Caden urgently said, "It’s me! Evelyn! Don’t be afraid! There’s no one else! No danger! You won’t die!"

Evelyn kept hitting Caden, but after being held in his arms for a while and listening to that familiar heartbeat, she calmed down a bit.

When she looked up and saw Caden’s handsome face, tears fell rapidly, and she burst into tears.

"I’m so scared!" Evelyn cried out to Caden, "It’s so dark, I can’t find my way out, and I’m feeling so weak. Woohoo— how could you do this to me? You said we wouldn’t divorce, and now you want to. Why does everything have to be according to your wishes!"

"Evelyn..."

Caden’s face was full of intense guilt.

Just then, Evelyn pushed Caden away again, saying with hatred, "Why did you come to find me? I don’t need your sympathy and pity! You don’t need to be responsible for me! Go back and find Eleanor Keaton! I’ll divorce you as soon as we get back! I won’t cling to you!"

"I can’t agree to a divorce!" Caden almost shouted.

His sharp, icy voice echoed in the valley, further amplifying his presence.

Evelyn shrank back in fear, feeling that Caden’s appearance was even scarier than a ghost.

Caden stepped forward a few steps, grabbed Evelyn’s shoulders, looked into her eyes, and said softly, "I’ve tried to let you go, let you and Logan Shaw be together; I’ve even tried pushing you away, accepting other women without rejection. But..."

Pausing for a moment, Caden then said, "But I can’t bring myself to hand you over to Logan Shaw. As for other women, no matter how much desire my body has, as long as it’s not you, I have no desire at all."

Listening to Caden’s words, Evelyn’s eyes widened, her lips slightly parted, a bit confused by his words.

The person in front of her seemed to once again be the Caden full of affection for her.

"Are you... are you splitting personalities?" Evelyn cautiously asked, "Sometimes you’re good to me, and sometimes you push me... away."

"No!" Caden was anxious, "I just..."

After a pause, he added, "I just want you to find happiness, and if the person who gives you that happiness isn’t me, then I’ll let you... go to Logan Shaw whom you love."
