"I..." An Zhihan faltered, stunned by Su Qing’s words. He wanted to say he found the An Family’s money filthy and refused to touch it.

"What ’I’?" Su Qing cut him off, firing off a rapid-fire barrage of questions. "You think you’re so high and mighty? That if you act all disdainful, they’ll suddenly see the error of their ways and repent? You think if you just refuse to touch the An Family’s money, they’ll leave you alone? If they were going to leave you alone, why did you get attacked this time? Are you an idiot? Besides, a portion of the An Family’s money is rightfully yours. Not only should they give it to you, they owe you compensation."

"While you’re here in Xiyuan County, wallowing in misery and suffering from your ailments, they’re living the high life over in Xiangcheng," Su Qing continued. "If I were you, I’d seize the first opportunity to not only turn the An Family upside down, but also make them atone for their sins. Everything they took from me, everything they owe me, they would have to pay back double."

"Young Master," Fang Lutian said, leaning back against his sickbed. "Miss Su Qing is right. You’ve been tormented by your condition for so many years. Have your First Uncle and Second Uncle ever shown a shred of guilt? They act like they’re the victims, claiming it was never their intention and that the whole thing was just an accident."

The very thought of An Lizheng and An Likang’s attitude sent a chill down Fang Lutian’s spine. He hated that back then, Old Mrs. An and Mr. An had stopped them at every turn, insisting they had to consider their family ties. With An Zhihan being so young and grievously injured, he had been powerless to resist, leaving them all feeling utterly stifled and wronged.

However, over the years, the Young Master and his people had been secretly gathering their strength. It might not be enough to rival the An Family yet, but now that the family had made their move, they could no longer just sit back and wait to be slaughtered. Even if it meant mutual destruction, they had to reclaim the justice they were owed.

As Mr. Gong listened to their conversation, he felt a growing sense of unease. He frowned. "What are you all talking about? Are you saying the people who attacked us were from the An Family in Xiangcheng?"

At this point, Su Qing felt there was no reason to hide anything from Mr. Gong. After all, he was a victim too and had a right to know who his attacker was.

"That’s right. They all had accents from the Guang City area. They must have been sent by the An Family in Xiangcheng," Su Qing confirmed with a nod.

Mr. Gong was so furious he slammed his fist on the bed. "How dare they! To attack people with knives in broad daylight, they’re completely lawless!"

"This family has a long history of doing outrageous things," Su Qing said. "Mr. Gong, have you forgotten what happened in Beilin? That was all An Zhiwei’s doing."

Mr. Gong took a deep breath. After a moment of thought, he said, "I suspect they sent people to attack us this time because of the possibility that Zhi Han might make a full recovery."

"Hmm?" Su Qing froze. "They’re afraid of An Zhihan recovering? So this was a preemptive strike?"

"That’s my theory," Mr. Gong said. "You probably don’t know this, but there’s a reason those two bastards, An Lizheng and An Likang, are so ’filial’ to my cousin. There might be a sliver of genuine respect, but it’s mostly because my cousin is still the one who actually controls the An Family. She once told me that if she and Mr. An were to die suddenly without leaving a will, the entire An Family fortune would be donated to charity. In other words, those two little scoundrels, An Lizheng and An Likang, would get nothing except the houses they live in and whatever small amount of shares and cash they currently hold."

Mr. Gong’s words left everyone stunned. No one had expected Old Mrs. An to have a trick like that up her sleeve.

Mr. Gong continued, "My cousin feels guilty, but her two sons are simply not cut out for business. They not only have poor judgment, but they’re also incredibly greedy, only seeing short-term profits without any thought for the future. She isn’t very pleased with An Zhiqian either, for that matter. But as for our Zhi Han here... my cousin has said that he has a real talent for business."

An Zhihan: "..."

Mr. Gong glanced at An Zhihan. "Did you really think your grandmother didn’t know about the black market business you’re running in Xiyuan County?"

"What?!" An Zhihan and Fang Lutian froze in shock. They had always run that business in secret and believed it to be completely covert. How could she...?

"Your grandmother knows all about your black market dealings, including all the ways you’ve earned your own money over the years. That’s why she thinks you have a talent for business. But since you refuse to forgive the An Family or return to the fold, she has maintained her grip on the family’s assets. She made that decision partly out of guilt for what happened to you and your parents, and partly because she is genuinely unimpressed with the business acumen of your two uncles’ families."

An Zhihan pressed his lips together. ’I knew she felt guilty,’ he thought, ’but I could never get over it.’ When his parents were schemed against by his uncles, his grandmother had protected him, but she had also insisted on not airing their dirty laundry in public. Her punishment for his uncles was a mere slap on the wrist, a warning at best. She had never truly sought justice for him or his parents.

Just as Su Qing had said, his parents had died under mysterious circumstances, and they had never received justice.

When Su Qing heard Mr. Gong mention the black market, she was completely floored. She stared at An Zhihan. "The person behind the black market in Xiyuan County... is you?"

"Yes," An Zhihan nodded. "You’ve been to the black market in Xiyuan County? You should have told me. I could have made things easier for you."

An Zhihan had always assumed Su Qing wasn’t short on cash, so he’d never connected her with the black market. That’s why he had never mentioned it to her.

"Oh, I only went once or twice out of curiosity," Su Qing said quickly. ’I was in disguise when I went to the black market; even Zhang Erlai didn’t recognize me. But I remember Zhang Erlai saying that the boss was very fond of my mushrooms... so the boss was An Zhihan all along. He must have liked the mushrooms because they were in my space for so long and got infused with the green mist.’

An Zhihan gave a faint smile. "The general situation is much better now, so I’m slowly scaling down the black market operations. Most of the businesses are gradually becoming legitimate. If you need anything in the future, just let me know, and I’ll track it down for you."

Su Qing smiled. "Great. I’m sure I’ll have to take you up on that offer."

"You don’t have to be so formal with me."

"Alright, I won’t be."

Then, Su Qing brought the conversation back to the main point. "So, the An Family is afraid that if your leg heals, you’ll go back to fight them for the inheritance, or even start to take revenge?"

"That’s very likely the reason," Mr. Gong said, raising an eyebrow at Su Qing. "You remember when we ran into An Zhiqian at the An Family’s old estate, don’t you?"

Su Qing nodded.

Mr. Gong continued, "An Zhiqian saw us at the estate. There’s no way he wouldn’t investigate us afterward. If he were to find out the real reason for our visit, what do you think they would do?"
