Su Qing frowned slightly, covertly studying the young man with Zhang Wenqi. He wasn’t very tall, maybe around five-foot-eight at most. He wore a well-fitting suit with a neatly knotted tie and greeted everyone with a practiced smile. He seemed to have a good relationship with Zhang Wenqi, and the two of them chatted from time to time.

Su Qing’s fingers twitched slightly, and a potted plant near Zhang Wenqi and the young man quietly extended its leaves a little in their direction. The people around them were all engrossed in lively conversation, so no one noticed the plant’s subtle, unusual movement.

The voices of Zhang Wenqi and the young man reached Su Qing’s ears.

"Little Tian, let me tell you, I don’t know these old-timers very well," Zhang Wenqi said to the young man in a low voice. "I’ll introduce you to my older brother in a bit. You can try talking with them."

The young man, Tian, smiled and said, "I’m already very grateful that you brought me to this conference, Uncle Zhang. You’ve done me a huge favor. I have a Flower Branch Vase; I’ll have it sent over to you later."

Zhang Wenqi’s face lit up. "It was nothing, I just brought you to the conference. How could that be worth such a valuable gift? I’ll pay you whatever it’s worth. I can’t take advantage of you young folks."

The young man named Tian laughed. "You helped me out so much, Uncle Zhang. Please think of it as a token of my gratitude. Don’t refuse, or it’ll seem like you’re treating me like a stranger."

Hearing this, Zhang Wenqi thought for a moment, then smiled. "Alright then. I’ll take advantage of your generosity just this once."

"How could you be taking advantage of me, Uncle Zhang? I’m the one who has truly benefited from your help."

The two of them seemed very pleased with the exchange. The young man named Tian looked around and said, "I heard that the master of traditional Chinese medicine, Mr. Gong, is also at the conference today. I wonder which one he is."

Zhang Wenqi had no interest in traditional Chinese medicine, despite being born into a family of practitioners, and he rarely socialized within those circles. Although he had heard of Mr. Gong, he had never met him in person. He glanced around but couldn’t recognize him, so he said, "I’ll take you to my older brother. He can introduce you."

When Su Qing overheard their conversation, her frown deepened. ’Is this young man here for Mr. Gong?’

At that, Su Qing decided she couldn’t linger to chat with Bai Minyun and the others. She smiled and said, "I’m going to go find Grandpa Gong. I’ll be back in a little while."

Bai Minyun knew Su Qing had come with Mr. Gong, so she smiled. "Sure, go ahead. We can get together again in a bit."

It wasn’t just Su Qing; none of the younger members of these prominent families could just stand around chatting in a corner all day. They also had to find time to be seen with their elders.

Tang Mo smiled. "I think Grandpa Gong is talking with my grandpa. Let’s go over together."

"Okay."

Seeing Su Qing and Tang Mo approach, Old Sir Tang smiled and waved to his granddaughter. "Momo, come here. Perfect timing. This is Grandpa Gong."

"Hello, Grandpa Gong," Tang Mo said with a smile.

Old Sir Tang then said to Mr. Gong with a smile, "This is my granddaughter. She has quite a talent for traditional Chinese medicine, much more than her brothers."

Mr. Gong smiled and gave Tang Mo a customary first-meeting gift, then pointed to Su Qing and said, "This is a junior of mine, Su Qing. She’s a very bright and clever girl. Last year, she was the top scorer in Beijing on the college entrance exams."

Mr. Gong was so proud that his eyes curved into crescents as he smiled.

Old Sir Tang looked at Su Qing in surprise. He had assumed she was just a friend of Tang Mo’s who had tagged along to the conference to see what it was about. He never imagined she was a junior under Mr. Gong’s wing. He knew, of course, that Mr. Gong had no descendants, but it was obvious he held this girl in very high regard.

Old Sir Tang chuckled and said to Mr. Gong, "This girl is quite something, being the top scorer in all of Beijing. Incredible, truly incredible."

As he spoke, he smilingly gave Su Qing a first-meeting gift as well, which she accepted with a smile and a word of thanks.

Tang Mo, full of pride, said to her grandfather, "Grandpa, Su Qing. Does that name not sound familiar? It’s Su Qing! The one who helped the police crack that major case last year."

Su Qing found it a little amusing. ’It seems all my new friends really admire me and want to show me off every chance they get.’

After hearing his granddaughter’s words, Old Sir Tang froze for a moment before looking at Su Qing with dawning realization. "Oh! So you’re *that* girl."

Su Qing smiled demurely. "I just helped out a little."

"Incredible, incredible," Old Sir Tang nodded repeatedly. He then smiled at Mr. Gong. "Brother Gong, this junior of yours is truly remarkable. A capable one, indeed."

Mr. Gong grinned even more proudly. "Oh, it’s nothing. The girl just happens to be a little good at everything, brains and brawn."

Old Sir Tang thought, ’...Why don’t you take a look at how wide you’re grinning?’

After chatting for a while, Old Sir Tang was surprised to find that while Su Qing was exceptionally familiar with all sorts of Chinese medicinal herbs, she wasn’t familiar with other theoretical aspects of TCM. He couldn’t help but ask, "Su, don’t you plan on studying traditional Chinese medicine with your Grandpa Gong? With your knowledge of herbs, it would be a waste not to."

’She’s such a promising student for traditional Chinese medicine!’

Su Qing smiled. "For now, I need to focus on my university studies. I’ll consider other things later on."

Old Sir Tang felt it was quite a shame. ’Such a promising talent, yet Brother Gong hasn’t thought to take her on as a disciple.’ To be honest, if the girl hadn’t said she needed to prioritize her studies, he would have been tempted to try and recruit her himself.

As they were speaking, Su Qing saw Zhang Wenxin approaching with the young man named Tian. Zhang Wenxin smiled and greeted the two elders, "Old Mr. Gong, Elder Tang."

"Ah, Wenxin." Old Sir Tang was more familiar with him and nodded with a smile.

Zhang Wenxin smiled and said, "Old Mr. Gong, Elder Tang, I’ve come to introduce a young man to you."

With that, Zhang Wenxin introduced Old Mr. Gong and Elder Tang to the young man. He then turned back to the two elders and said, "This young man’s surname is Tian, and his name is Tian Qiu. Although he hasn’t formally studied traditional Chinese medicine, he is extremely interested in it and hopes to study systematically under a renowned master. I just tested him a bit myself, and his grasp of the basic theories is quite good."

Tian Qiu bowed respectfully to Old Mr. Gong and Elder Tang. "Greetings, Old Mr. Gong, Elder Tang. This junior has long heard of your esteemed reputations. I was wondering if I might have the opportunity to receive your guidance."

Old Sir Tang chuckled. "It seems you young people are very eager to learn. That’s good, very good. However, I’m getting old and don’t have the energy I used to. My own grandchildren are always pestering me for lessons, so I really don’t have the stamina. I’m not planning to take on any new disciples for now. But if you wish to exchange ideas, we can certainly do that."
