Sold for 300, I Fight Back with Superpowers
Chapter 474: An Incredible Idea"Someone hit my shoulder with something, probably to get my attention. By the time I reached the main gate, I saw Jin Zhicheng and that tape recorder," Xiao Chen explained. "As for what hit me, I never found it."
At this, Xiao Chen frowned, looking troubled.
Seeing this, Zou Ming asked, "Is there something else?"
Xiao Chen glanced at Zou Ming, pursed his lips, and said, "Captain, there’s something... I’m not sure if my eyes were playing tricks on me."
Zou Ming’s interest was immediately piqued. He asked urgently, "What was it? Go on."
"When I looked up, I thought I saw a piece of a vine retracting out the main gate." Xiao Chen scratched his head. "But I immediately chased out the door and saw nothing. I figured my eyes must have been playing tricks on me."
Zou Ming tapped his fingers lightly on the desk. "Anything else?"
"That’s all," Xiao Chen said, then added sheepishly, "For a second, I had this crazy thought that maybe it was that vine that hit me. But that’s impossible. How could a vine just jump up and hit someone? Let alone run into the city bureau to do it."
’Yeah, how could a vine run into the city bureau and attack someone?’
Zou Ming’s brow furrowed. Normally, he would have scoffed at the idea, assuming Xiao Chen was just tired and seeing things. But now, he wasn’t so sure. After a moment of thought, he asked, "What condition was Jin Zhicheng in when you found him?"
"He’d been knocked unconscious and dumped at our main gate," Xiao Chen replied.
"Were there any vines on him?"
"No," said Xiao Chen. "He was unconscious, and the tape recorder was right next to him. He had drag marks on his body, though. Someone definitely dragged him to the entrance of our city bureau, but I have no idea who."
"Alright, you can go. I need to think this over." Zou Ming rubbed his aching temples. They had one of the suspects, but the case seemed to have gotten even more complicated. It now involved supernatural means. ’If that Master Zhang from Jin Zhicheng’s story really did use some supernatural method, will the team sent to the Hongqi Hotel even be able to catch him?’
The answer was obvious. They didn’t catch him. He got away.
When he heard the news, Zou Ming wasn’t surprised at all.
After some thought, Zou Ming interrogated Jin Zhicheng again. "Try to remember. Who captured you?"
Jin Zhicheng looked dejected. "Officer, I’ve already told you. I woke up, and for some reason, I was in a grassy field. I don’t know who grabbed me, only that it was a man. You heard the recording, didn’t you? Some man used some unknown method to take me out to the wild. Then he fed me something, and I got all groggy. I couldn’t help but answer whatever he asked."
"How do you know it was the wild?" Zou Ming pressed.
"I could feel it. When I woke up, my hands were touching dead grass. Oh, right! He also used grass to tie me up," Jin Zhicheng answered.
At that, Zou Ming sat bolt upright and stared at Jin Zhicheng. "Are you sure you were tied up with grass, not rope?"
"I’m positive." Jin Zhicheng nodded. "He didn’t just tie me up with grass; he blindfolded me with it, too. I could smell it—the scent of grass. Even though it’s winter and the grass is all dead, it was definitely a grass vine. A regular rope made of grass wouldn’t have that smell. I’m absolutely certain."
"You said you were fed something. Perhaps you were just hallucinating," Zou Ming said, narrowing his eyes.
"It definitely wasn’t," Jin Zhicheng insisted. "At first, I thought I was having another nightmare, but my mind was perfectly clear. I just don’t know what he fed me. Whatever he asked, I couldn’t stop myself from telling the truth, even if I didn’t want to."
A wave of fear washed over Jin Zhicheng as he spoke. That man also possessed strange powers. "Officer, maybe that person is just like Master Zhang—some kind of master who knows all sorts of weird techniques. Really, I’m not lying. I’ve already confessed to the worst thing I’ve ever done. I have no reason to lie to you anymore. Everything I’m saying is true. There really are people in this world with amazing abilities."
Zou Ming pursed his lips, saying nothing.
’Jin Zhicheng was taken to the wild, had drag marks on his body when he was delivered to the city bureau, and Xiao Chen saw the tip of a vine...’
’An incredible thought popped into Zou Ming’s head: could someone have used a remotely controlled vine to deliver Jin Zhicheng here?’
’The idea was crazy, but Zou Ming didn’t think he was just letting his imagination run wild. Maybe someone out there really did have such an ability. And this person might not be an enemy. Otherwise, why would they deliver Jin Zhicheng to the police, complete with evidence?’
’But who could it be?’
Jin Zhiwei’s case alarmed the top brass of the Public Security Bureau, and word of it even reached Li Fenghuo and Gu Xinsheng.
"Big Bro." Gu Xinsheng entered Li Fenghuo’s office. Since he was about to marry Li Wan, Gu Xinsheng had long since switched to the more familiar term of address.
"Xinsheng, you’re here. Have a seat." Seeing Gu Xinsheng, Li Fenghuo quickly welcomed him and poured him a cup of tea.
Gu Xinsheng took a sip of the tea and nodded. "I’ve drunk a lot of tea, but the batches from Qingqing are still the best. You have no idea. I went over to Old Zhou’s place a couple of days ago and had some of his tea. It was completely tasteless. I complained about it, and the next day, that shameless guy ran over to my office and made off with more than half the tea leaves Qingqing gave me."
Since both Li Fenghuo and Gu Xinsheng were tea lovers, when Su Qing was in the mountains, she had come across a century-old wild tea tree. She picked the leaves, used her superpower to process them, and even let them steep in the green mist inside her space for a while. Afterward, she gave a large bag to each of the male elders in the family.
So now, all the tea Li Fenghuo and Gu Xinsheng drank was a gift from Su Qing.
Li Fenghuo couldn’t help but laugh. "That’s what you get for showing off. It’s fine. When you run out of tea, just come get some from me."
Gu Xinsheng nodded with a faint smile. "Sounds like a plan."
After a bit more small talk, they got down to business. "Big Bro, I came over today because there’s something I need to discuss with you."
"What is it?" Li Fenghuo asked.
"Do you remember that case from last year? The one with the drug den in the mountains of Guang Province? The major case that Qingqing helped crack," Gu Xinsheng asked.
"I do." Li Fenghuo nodded, wondering why Gu Xinsheng was suddenly bringing it up now. "Why mention that case all of a sudden?"
Gu Xinsheng got up, glanced outside the office, and then shut the door firmly.
Seeing this, Li Fenghuo couldn’t help but ask in surprise, "What’s all this about? Are you about to tell me a secret or something?"
Gu Xinsheng nodded.
Li Fenghuo was speechless.
