Leaving the ice cavern, the Arhat Temple disciples all felt as if they had been granted a new lease on life.

Huikong and the others had already learned that two Arhat Temple disciples had died at the hands of the exotic beasts, and were now chanting the Rebirth Mantra.

Yang Ling looked up at the icicles above, simultaneously opening his virtual map to compare his position. In no time, he had pinpointed their location.

"We're halfway there. Another half and we'll reach the destination marked in red."

Yang Ling thought for a moment. Before he could even speak, Mian Zhengdong and the others had already brought over the hand crossbows and flying daggers they'd scavenged from the Rong tribe members and laid them all before him.

"Chief Constable Yang, by rights, these should be handed over to the Ironclad Department for confiscation," Mian Zhengdong said.

Yang Ling considered it, then only took a hundred flying daggers and thirty crossbow bolts.

"Keep the remaining hand crossbows for now. Once we get out of here alive, we'll hand them all over to the Ironclad Department," Yang Ling said. "With these weapons, we'll be able to handle any Rong tribe spies we encounter more easily."

Mian Zhengdong was overjoyed. This Chief Constable Yang really wasn't some stubborn, rigid fool!

"What a great piece of gear!"

Li Shou's eyes practically lit up as he seemed to see the hand crossbow's stats.

"Chief Constable Yang, with the Heavenly Wolf Guard making a move like this, they likely have a specific objective in mind," Huikong said as he approached Yang Ling, his expression solemn. "Let's speak privately."

The two of them moved several dozen feet away before Huikong lowered his voice and said, "Chief Constable Yang, before I came in here, I obtained a map. The destination on that map is Calamity Valley."

"Calamity Valley?" Yang Ling frowned. "What's the difference between that valley and the Snowy Ice Plain?"

Huikong took a deep breath. "This information was supposed to be kept confidential, but given the current situation, I feel I need to be upfront with you, Chief Constable Yang."

"It's said that hundreds of years ago, when Zhao State first discovered the Water Qilin Cave, many experts rushed in without knowing the rules. That time, their appearance awakened the Water Qilin. Only a lucky few managed to escape. The rest all perished there."

"The place where those experts met their end came to be known as Calamity Valley. Rumor has it that Calamity Valley isn't far from where the Water Qilin sleeps. In later expeditions, many martial artists tried to find Calamity Valley, hoping to discover the exotic herbs and spiritual plants there, as well as the relics left behind by those fallen experts."

A strange glint flickered in Yang Ling's eyes. "Did any grandmasters fall there?"

"Yes," Huikong nodded. "Not only did Fourth-Rank Grandmasters perish, but even Third-Rank Grandmasters Supreme. At the time, even a Human Immortal died there!"

"A Second-Rank Human Immortal!?" Yang Ling gasped sharply in shock. Could it be that even an expert of that caliber died here because the Water Qilin had awakened?

"This Water Qilin is definitely the final boss of the Zhao State map..."

Yang Ling's heart was pounding. They were basically dancing on a razor's edge right now, scraping by near the lair of the ultimate boss, picking up scraps.

"I suspect the Heavenly Wolf Guard's target this time is also Calamity Valley. They probably want to get their hands on some internal cultivation techniques and martial arts techniques from those fallen predecessors."

"That Second-Rank Human Immortal's internal cultivation method must have been first-rate!"

"A first-rate internal cultivation technique is terrifyingly valuable. With enough time, you could build an entire first-rate sect from just one such manual!"

Huikong's voice carried a hint of excitement. "If the Heavenly Wolf Guard takes that, the loss to Zhao State would be absolutely devastating!"

"Which sect did that Second-Rank Human Immortal belong to?" Yang Ling asked thoughtfully.

"According to the rumors, he was from the Nine Immortals Dao Palace. His internal cultivation technique was never passed down, which caused the Nine Immortals Dao Palace to lose a first-rate internal technique from that point onward," Huikong said gravely.

He paused, then added, "In fact, all four of our sects had seniors who died in Calamity Valley. Our goal this time is also to bring back the remains of those seniors and give them a proper burial."

After hearing this, Yang Ling felt that the Heavenly Wolf Guard's goal was very likely indeed this Calamity Valley.

The Water Qilin Cave did have treasures like the Water Bodhi seed, one of the Twelve Sacred Martial Medicines. But the belongings of those fallen grandmasters, and even that Human Immortal, might be far more important than even the Water Bodhi!

"Can I take a look at that map?" Yang Ling asked.

Huikong thought it over, then took out the map and handed it to Yang Ling.

Yang Ling took one look and confirmed that his own destination and the Heavenly Wolf Guard's destination were the same.

It was very likely that the Divine Sect, the Nine Immortals Dao Palace, and the Extreme Flame Sword Manor were all heading to this Calamity Valley as well.

The Heavenly Wolf Guard knew about this, so they were able to set up an ambush along the way.

"This ambush we got caught in might be related to what that Tong Jiu said about 'Gold Six, Silver Three,'" Huikong said. "If the Arhat Temple really does have a spy from the Heavenly Wolf Guard, then the Nine Immortals Dao Palace, the Divine Sect, and the Extreme Flame Sword Manor certainly must have them too."

"So the Heavenly Wolf Guard knows where we're headed and can plan ambushes accordingly."

"I get the feeling that Zhao State is getting beaten down on this front," Yang Ling thought with a hint of suspicion.

Everyone said Zhao State's national power was far superior to the Rong tribe's. Yet here they were, the enemy had managed to send a whole group of Seventh-Rank experts into the Water Qilin Cave. Even the four major sects might have their spies planted inside. Who was really stronger?

"Chief Constable Yang, I think regardless of whether our guesses are correct, it's best if we all head to Calamity Valley," Huikong said. "If the Nine Immortals Dao Palace and the others have been ambushed too, we can lend a hand. No matter what, we absolutely cannot let the Rong tribe take away the relics left by Zhao State's predecessors."

Huikong pressed his palms together and chanted a Buddhist invocation. "I ask that you come with us, Chief Constable Yang."

"Even if you hadn't asked, I would have gone anyway," Yang Ling nodded lightly. "Let's get the team organized first. We'll set off immediately."

About the time it takes to drink a cup of tea later, the team was fully assembled.

Everything of value on those Rong tribe spies had been thoroughly scavenged. Whatever wasn't valuable was left there with their corpses.

Along the way, Li Shou couldn't contain his curiosity and asked Yang Ling about the reason for his crazy leveling.

Yang Ling didn't hide it. He simply said the Kylin Iron gave far too much experience points.

"Mining to level up really is that fast?"

Li Shou's mind was blown.

At that moment, the words "mining to level up" were deeply planted in his mind.

"Be a constable, then mine to level up!"

Li Shou made up his mind. If he managed to leave the Water Qilin Cave alive this time, he was going to forge a truly bright path for himself. He could just walk the road paved by those who came before him. Even if it meant being pushed aside by the Arhat Temple, he didn't care.

Before they knew it, it felt like another day had passed.

The blizzard here had suddenly become much more violent.

The ice pellets stung their faces with a sharp pain.

Only Huishi wore an expression of pure enjoyment. Yang Ling suspected the external martial arts technique he cultivated required getting hit in order to get stronger.

"This is the blizzard!"

Huikong's eyes lit up with excitement. "Once we walk out of this blizzard, we'll reach Calamity Valley!"

Yang Ling's spirits lifted.

Half a day later, the blizzard gradually subsided. About a mile ahead, the entrance to a valley came faintly into view.

At the same time, Yang Ling spotted the martial artists from the Nine Immortals Dao Palace and the Extreme Flame Sword Manor. They were gathered at the valley entrance, seemingly locked in a standoff with something from a distance.

"Rong tribe spies? No, it looks like some kind of giant creature..."

A strange expression flickered across Yang Ling's eyes.
