Forged of neither bronze nor iron nor steel,

Guard of Odin’s vault through ages untold.

Blessed by divine power, armed with annihilation,

A walking fortress stained with the blood of Frost Giants.

The Destroyer Armor was legendary even by Asgardian standards.

Entrusted by Odin himself to guard the royal vault, it answered to no one but the All-Father.

Under normal circumstances.

Unfortunately, Loki had never been particularly interested in "normal circumstances."

While Odin lay trapped in the Odinsleep, Loki had quietly activated the armor himself. He lacked the authority and mastery to draw out its full strength, but even operating at a fraction of its true potential, the Destroyer remained one of the deadliest weapons in existence.

Its mission had been simple.

Travel to Earth.

Kill Thor, who had been stripped of his divine power.

Easy.

Until it arrived and discovered Earth had somehow turned into a raid encounter.

Human soldiers.

The Warriors Three.

Lady Sif.

A towering emerald monster that literally fell out of the sky.

The Destroyer crushed everything in its path. Human weapons barely scratched it, and the Asgardian warriors couldn’t stop its advance. Only the Hulk had managed to slow it down, and even then, the green giant eventually reverted before the battle could be decided.

Victory had seemed inevitable.

Then Thor regained Mjolnir.

The exile returned wearing the full might of the God of Thunder and proceeded to beat the Destroyer into the ground.

If the armor had possessed emotions, it would’ve filed a formal complaint for cheating.

Before it could recover...

Evenson had banished it.

To anything trapped within a banishment spell, time effectively ceased to exist.

So when the spell was finally released...

As far as the Destroyer was concerned, not a single instant had passed.

Its battle with Thor was still underway.

Without the slightest hesitation, the armor unleashed its most powerful attack.

A crimson beam of annihilation erupted from the faceplate.

Straight toward the spot where Evenson had deliberately maneuvered Blackheart and Water Demon.

"...Close."

Evenson clicked his tongue.

His calculations had been slightly off.

The beam missed Blackheart.

Instead...

It struck Water Demon head-on.

The elemental creature never even had time to scream.

Against the Destroyer’s full-powered energy blast, a demon whose body existed primarily as animated water had no chance whatsoever.

In a single instant...

He vaporized.

Not burned.

Not blasted apart.

Simply ceased to exist, reduced to a cloud of superheated steam.

Blackheart threw himself backward, staring in disbelief at the towering suit of enchanted armor.

"What...?"

He couldn’t make sense of what he’d just seen.

Neither could he understand why an Asgardian superweapon had suddenly emerged from what appeared to be an outhouse.

At the same moment, Evenson quietly cast Soulshatter.

Despite the intimidating name, it wasn’t an offensive spell.

It was a Warlock technique that drastically reduced the caster’s presence, making enemies instinctively prioritize other targets unless directly provoked.

Once the spell took effect, Evenson casually moved behind the Destroyer.

Reducing your threat level only worked if you stopped waving your arms in front of the enemy.

"Heimdall sees everything," Evenson said calmly. "The moment you arrived on Earth, Asgard already knew."

Blackheart’s eyes widened.

"Asgard is interfering?"

Evenson nodded solemnly.

"Of course."

"They call this world Midgard."

"The Nine Realms aren’t just names on a map."

"If you truly intended to transform Earth into another Hell..."

"...did you never wonder why your father never attempted anything on that scale?"

At first, Blackheart dismissed the explanation as nonsense.

The Contract of San Venganza wasn’t powerful enough to conquer an entire world.

That part was obvious.

Then Evenson mentioned Midgard.

Understanding dawned.

Earth wasn’t merely another mortal planet.

It was Asgardian territory.

Invading it wasn’t just challenging humanity.

It was trespassing into Odin’s domain.

Suddenly Mephisto’s caution over the centuries made perfect sense.

"So..." Evenson said with genuine pity, "you charged in without understanding whose doorstep you were kicking."

He sighed.

"You really are nowhere near your father’s league."

Blackheart’s expression twisted.

He’d already lost the contract.

Water Demon was dead.

Now the Destroyer stood between him and freedom.

Retreat was the only sensible option.

"I..."

A crimson beam exploded past his face.

He dove sideways just in time.

Whose fault was that?

Soulshatter had all but erased Evenson from the Destroyer’s attention.

Johnny had stayed quietly out of the fight.

Meanwhile Blackheart had been shouting, gesturing, and leaping around the battlefield.

Naturally, the Destroyer decided he was the priority target.

"Let me leave!" Blackheart roared while narrowly avoiding another blast.

Evenson pretended to consider it.

"Hmm..."

He stroked his chin for exactly one second.

"No."

"I signed a contract with your father."

"And unlike some people..."

"I’ve already accepted payment."

Blackheart ground his teeth.

"Rider!"

"Stop him!"

With another desperate leap to avoid the Destroyer’s beam, he shouted toward Johnny.

Johnny stepped away from his motorcycle, preparing to transform.

"Don’t forget," Evenson called out, "you signed Mephisto’s contract too."

"I’m not the one whose soul still belongs to him."

Blackheart immediately countered.

"Your girlfriend is still under my curse."

He fixed Johnny with a cold smile.

"Are you willing to abandon her?"

Johnny hesitated.

Evenson answered before he could.

"Blackheart cast the curse."

"Kill him..."

"And the curse dies with him."

Blackheart laughed.

"I can end her life this instant."

"You can’t cast a curse accurately from this distance."

"Want to test that theory?"

"Enough!"

Johnny suddenly screamed.

His face flickered violently between flesh and blazing skull.

Laughter burst from him, wild and uncontrollable.

"I may know..." he gasped, "...who my enemies are..."

"But he doesn’t!"

Another fit of manic laughter overtook him.

"To the Spirit..."

"You’re all guilty!"

His mental state had finally collapsed.

Caught between his contract, Lorraine’s life, and his own conscience, Johnny’s grip over the Spirit of Vengeance shattered.

The Ghost Rider seized complete control.

Unlike before, there was no trace of Johnny left to restrain it.

To the Spirit...

A demon prince and a Warlock were equally damned.

"Hell awaits..."

The declaration ended abruptly.

A crimson beam slammed squarely into the Ghost Rider.

Now he had become the battlefield’s most conspicuous target.

"Looks like I’ll have to deal with this myself."

The Ghost Rider abandoned thoughts of judgment.

First came revenge.

He charged the Destroyer.

The two titans collided in a storm of Hellfire and crimson energy.

Which meant stopping Blackheart now fell entirely to Evenson.

Blackheart, however, had already retreated to the entrance of the base.

He smiled fearlessly.

"Why won’t you serve me?"

"The Ghost Rider did."

"I don’t enjoy answering the same question twice."

Evenson raised one hand toward him.

Blackheart ignored the gesture.

"You accused me of taking hostages."

He nodded thoughtfully.

"Fair enough."

"I cursed the Rider’s girlfriend and made him obey."

His smile widened as he glanced inside the building.

"I can sense a woman in there."

He chuckled.

"You brought her with you despite all this."

"That means she’s precious to you."

"What happens..."

"...if I take her instead?"

Evenson’s eyes narrowed.

"I strongly advise against that."

Blackheart copied Evenson’s earlier tone perfectly.

"I’ll think about it..."

He grinned.

"No."

"I believe I’ll do exactly that."

He turned and walked into the building.

Evenson lowered his raised hand and scratched the back of his head.

"...Well."

"I guess I won’t need to call for help after all."
