Evenson had never truly forgotten what Agatha had done the last time they met.

She had manipulated him into summoning the Eredar Twins.

At the time, he’d been furious.

He’d burned through a mountain of soul fragments, gained almost nothing in return, and somehow ended up with two impossibly powerful demonesses living under his roof. Instead of commanding them, he’d spent most of his time carefully avoiding offending them.

It had felt like the worst trade deal in history.

That resentment had faded over time.

Once he’d learned where the Twins truly stood and begun working alongside them, things had changed. They’d helped him more than once, especially during the recent incident with Ulthalesh, the Deadwind Harvester.

More importantly...

His level twenty-one Archmage body had ultimately been claimed by them.

So the anger blazing across his face now was only half genuine.

The other half was negotiation.

Agatha still owed him a favor, and he intended to make that debt feel as expensive as possible.

The towering demoness merely smiled.

"From where I’m standing," she purred, "you seem to be getting along wonderfully with my mistresses."

Evenson snorted.

Better than you could possibly imagine.

Then Agatha added something that wiped the smugness from his face.

"They’ve even branded you with their marks."

Her green eyes narrowed with unmistakable envy.

"I never received that honor."

Ignoring her tone, Evenson calmly clasped his hands behind his back.

"You can sense them?"

If other demons discovered he carried the Eredar Twins’ marks, his situation could become... extremely complicated.

The Twins were traitors to the Burning Legion now.

Anyone associated with them would be treated the same way.

"Of course."

Agatha nodded.

Then she seemed to understand his concern.

"Relax."

"I recognize them because I served my mistresses for a very long time."

"My familiarity with their power is... unusually intimate."

She shrugged.

"The other demons here don’t have that privilege."

Evenson quietly exhaled.

That made sense.

The Eredar Twins had once served as Kil’jaeden’s personal lieutenants.

Only their closest followers or the Legion’s highest-ranking commanders would immediately recognize traces of their power.

Most of those individuals were still fighting on Azeroth.

If they were even alive.

Against Azeroth’s champions, survival was hardly guaranteed.

"So..."

Agatha glanced toward the deeper reaches of the Rift.

"You’re here to see Gnosis."

Evenson nodded.

"I am."

The lower levels of the Felscar Rift contained very little that would interest a warlock.

Except for Gnosis.

"I’ll take you."

She didn’t wait for permission.

Turning gracefully, she began walking deeper into the cavern.

Evenson followed.

She’d guided him this way before when he’d come to repair his Felsteed. She knew perfectly well that he remembered the route.

If she insisted on leading him now...

She clearly had something to discuss.

After several minutes of silence, Agatha finally spoke.

"The Legion’s campaign is going badly."

Evenson raised an eyebrow.

"How badly?"

"Gul’dan has disappointed everyone."

The contempt in her voice was impossible to miss.

"He keeps throwing away soldiers."

"Now he’s hiding inside his fortress."

"Lord Kil’jaeden is... less than pleased."

"And?"

Evenson prompted.

He doubted she was sharing battlefield gossip for entertainment.

Agatha’s emerald eyes gleamed.

"Kil’jaeden has shifted nearly all of his attention to Azeroth."

"He may even lead the campaign personally."

Evenson simply listened.

He preferred hearing where she was going with this.

"The Legion barely reacted when warlocks seized Dreadscar Rift."

"That was a minor loss."

"They ignored it."

"When the demon hunters captured Mardum..."

"They sent only a token counterattack."

"The Illidari were practically left alone."

She suddenly stopped.

Evenson, who had been distracted piecing together her argument, nearly walked straight into her.

"So what’s your point?" he asked, taking an annoyed step backward.

Considering Agatha stood nearly three meters tall, colliding with her would have been awkward in more ways than one.

She gave him an amused glance before continuing.

"Even Niskara."

"A strategic fortress."

"It has been infiltrated over and over again."

"And yet the Legion barely responded."

She spread her hands.

"That tells you everything."

"Unless it concerns the conquest of Azeroth..."

"The Legion simply doesn’t care anymore."

"I see."

Evenson’s eyes flickered thoughtfully.

If the Burning Legion was ignoring repeated attacks on strategically valuable worlds...

Then forgotten backwaters like the Felscar Rift had effectively disappeared from the Legion’s radar.

Any changes here would go unnoticed.

"So..."

He looked at Agatha.

"What exactly are you trying to tell me?"

"Nothing."

She turned and resumed walking.

Several moments later, she asked quietly,

"My mistresses..."

"Are they doing well?"

"They’re doing better than well."

Evenson answered honestly.

It wasn’t flattery.

It was simply true.

No matter how busy things became, the Twins had never lacked for comfort.

If anything, they’d grown almost alarmingly good at enjoying life on Earth.

Agatha smiled with obvious relief.

"Good."

"That’s all I wanted to hear."

Evenson studied her for a moment.

"I didn’t expect someone like you to be so loyal."

Agatha stopped once more.

Fortunately, Evenson anticipated it this time and halted well before reaching her.

She turned to face him.

"My mistresses are my mistresses."

Her voice carried absolute certainty.

"That will never change."

"I obey their commands."

"Always."

She gestured toward the surrounding Rift.

"Just as every female demon here answers to me alone."

Evenson nodded slowly.

"I understand."

A faint smile appeared on his face.

"When I return..."

"I’ll be sure to tell them how loyal you’ve remained."

He deliberately emphasized the word loyal.

Agatha immediately bowed.

"My thanks."

"I will continue waiting here..."

"...for my mistresses’ command."
