Chapter 68: Chapter 68: Such a Good Relationship

"I can’t believe you actually learned what Feng He taught," Shi Feng said with a smile, squatting nearby and watching Lin Jingjing slowly push the liquid out of the syringe.

Lin Jingjing didn’t answer. After she finished injecting the liquid, she immediately pressed a cotton swab against the injection site and withdrew the needle.

"All done," Lin Jingjing said, placing the used needle aside. She kept her hand pressed firmly on the injection site.

Gu Kaiwen neatly collected the trash they had generated and threw it into the waste disposal bin.

"When Feng He was teaching us, you guys weren’t paying attention," Lin Jingjing said, sitting back down in her chair and finally replying to Shi Feng.

Shi Feng shuddered, remembering how Feng He would grab their hands and try to practice on them with a needle.

"No thanks," Shi Feng said, waving his hands dismissively, a look of terror on his face. "She used us as guinea pigs. I wouldn’t dare learn from her."

For a while there, Mo Xuan’s hands kept showing up with new pinpricks. The sight of them scared us all.

"Tch. It’s a Skill. I didn’t just learn how to give injections. I also learned how to bandage wounds, do chest compressions, perform artificial respiration, the Heimlich maneuver..."

Lin Jingjing proudly listed off the Skills she had learned, not forgetting to tease him. "And you learned absolutely nothing."

"Hmph, I know a few things too, okay?" Shi Feng retorted, not wanting to be outdone.

Gu Kaiwen, who had been listening to them bicker from the sidelines, chimed in, "No, you don’t."

Shi Feng was shocked that Gu Kaiwen would pull the rug out from under him like that. He glared, his eyes wide. "Xiao Wenzi," he said, his voice laced with threat, "say that one more time."

Seeing his reaction, Gu Kaiwen quickly tried to placate him. "I’m the one who didn’t learn anything! You’re the best."

"Even if I didn’t learn any of that, my talent for making money is second to none. Can any of you compare to me on that?" Shi Feng said, crossing his arms and lifting his chin, his face a mask of pride.

They had to admit, he had a point. When it came to making money, he really was gifted.

"You win this round," Lin Jingjing conceded.

Amidst their bickering, Aidan, who had been unconscious, slowly began to stir.

He opened his eyes and looked around, finding himself in the hallway of the medical bay. He could hear the others chatting nearby.

"Let’s go catch a pheasant in the woods out back tonight and roast it. I haven’t had roast chicken in so long," Gu Kaiwen said. As he spoke, he was already imagining a fragrant, perfectly roasted chicken. ’It would taste amazing.’

"There are pheasants in those woods?" Shi Feng was now craving it too. ’Brush a little honey on the skin before roasting... so fragrant and delicious.’ "Even if there are, can we actually catch one?"

All the animals here had evolved. The pheasants were incredibly fast; the moment you spotted one, it would vanish in the blink of an eye.

They were incredibly hard to catch, and setting traps was useless.

Those chickens were too smart. They’d eat the bait and run, so you could never actually catch them.

"How about we buy a couple from Captain Li?" Lin Jingjing suggested, her own mouth starting to water. They had been subsisting on Nutrient Liquid for days, and her taste buds felt dead. She was desperate for something with some real flavor to shock her palate back to life.

The two men looked at Lin Jingjing. "Are you sure Captain Li would be willing to sell?"

"The chickens in the coop all belong to the First Corps. Captain Li probably can’t sell them to us," Shi Feng said, stroking his chin thoughtfully.

Just then, Aidan spoke up. "Actually, you can buy them from the residents outside."

His voice startled the three of them. "Jeez, you’re awake!" Shi Feng exclaimed, patting his chest as he looked at him.

"Yeah," Aidan nodded. "Is roast chicken good?"

"Good? It’s delicious!" Shi Feng nodded emphatically. "You marinate it for a few hours, then brush it with honey and roast it. The whole thing becomes so fragrant, it’s incredibly tempting. And Beggar’s Chicken is also super tasty. That’s where we perfected our technique for grilling chicken, fish, pretty much anything back in college."

Their skills at roasting chicken, fish, and everything else had been honed during their college years.

"Too bad we can’t have any of that now," Gu Kaiwen lamented.

Lin Jingjing sighed, resting her head in her hands. "I was fine before you brought it up, but now my mouth is watering."

"We’re back to training tomorrow, so there’s no time. And who knows when the next break will be." Lin Jingjing scratched her hair in frustration. ’It’s all my fault. I slept for so long and ruined everyone’s chance to have fun.’

"There’s still time," Shi Feng said, glancing at his Star Ring. "It’s only two in the afternoon. Plenty of time."

They were all people of action. At Shi Feng’s words, "There’s still time," their eyes lit up. They exchanged a look, then shot to their feet. The three of them looked at one another and one asked tentatively, "So... we’re doing this?"

Finally, Lin Jingjing said, "Let’s do it."

Aidan was a little stunned, watching them make a decision in just a few words. ’Don’t they need to discuss it more?’

"Bro, you heard all that. You want in?" Gu Kaiwen asked, slinging an arm over Aidan’s shoulder as he extended the invitation.

Aidan thought for a moment, then nodded. He wanted to find out just how delicious this roast chicken they spoke of really was, to make them miss it so desperately.

When he saw Aidan nod, Gu Kaiwen gave a goofy grin. "Great! Then we’ll leave the chicken situation to you. We’ll need six."

"Seven," Shi Feng cut in.

"We’ll bring one to Captain Li after we’ve cooked them."

Captain Li had helped them out a lot; it was only right to share the good food with him.

Seven chickens...

’Are they planning to eat a whole chicken each?’

"Are you sure you can each eat a whole chicken?" Aidan asked in disbelief. "Will you be able to finish them?"

"We’ll see."

With the discussion over, Lin Jingjing called Mo Xuan and Feng He, telling them to meet at the supermarket entrance.

With that settled, the group left the medical bay. As they walked, Aidan sent a message to a local resident, asking them to deliver seven chickens.

Since the food quality in the First Corps had declined, some of the members who came from privileged backgrounds couldn’t stomach it and would periodically have local residents sneak in better food for them.

Over time, this had slowly developed into a gray-market supply chain.

Where there’s demand, a market will form.

So for him, getting a few chickens was incredibly simple.

When they got to the supermarket entrance, they saw Mo Xuan and Feng He waiting for them a short distance away, holding hands.

Seeing them arrive, Feng He and Mo Xuan walked over to greet them. Feng He smiled. "You’re here."

When her gaze landed on Aidan, her smile faltered for a moment before she asked, "And who is this?"

"His name is Aidan," Lin Jingjing introduced him. "He’s the person I rescued before."

"Oh, right."

After entering the supermarket together, they went straight to the seasoning aisle and bought everything they needed.

Walking behind, Aidan watched them laughing and joking, a look of envy in his eyes.

’Only people who are really close joke around with each other like that.’

’Their friendship is really something else.’
