Chapter 97: Chapter 97: Mecha Arm
After playing for a bit, Shi Feng went back to work on his mecha. Gu Kaiwen had already grabbed a wooden stick and was playing with the small dog.
He’d throw the stick, and the little dog would immediately dash out, retrieve it, and place it back in Gu Kaiwen’s hand.
After dropping the stick, its tail wagged nonstop, a happy grin on its face. It looked absolutely delighted.
Gu Kaiwen picked up the stick and threw it again, and with a WHOOSH, the little dog shot off after it.
Lin Jingjing, meanwhile, was training the animals off to the side. Sitting in a chair, she addressed them sternly, "From now on, when I summon you, you are not allowed to bite people without my permission."
The moment she finished speaking, a cacophony of animal noises erupted, making Lin Jingjing’s ears ring.
She quickly raised a hand, signaling for them to quiet down. "Alright, next point."
"You must all train hard and become even stronger."
Half an hour later, Lin Jingjing finished her speech, raised her hand, and recalled them all to her Spiritual World.
At that moment, the stick in the little dog’s mouth clattered to the ground.
Gu Kaiwen stared at the now-empty space not far away, sighed, and got to his feet.
"Sent them back already?" Gu Kaiwen asked.
Lin Jingjing explained, "It’s getting late. It was time for them to go back."
A glance at the time showed it was already ten o’clock. It really wasn’t early.
The two of them went inside and saw Shi Feng standing there, his hands flying across a blue screen.
He would stop mid-action, grab a nearby book to flip through, and after that, pick up his own notes to study.
Once he was done, he tossed his notes aside, and his hands began to move again.
When he was finished, Shi Feng straightened up and walked over to a mecha arm suspended in the air by mechanical clamps. He opened a white box, took out a blue chip, and inserted it into a slot on the arm.
After inserting it, he returned to the screen and began to operate it. At his command, the mecha arm began to move.
Its five fingers flexed one after another. But that wasn’t all—it could also transform.
With a series of clicks and whirs, the mecha arm transformed into a cannon barrel. It could become not only a cannon but also a variety of other weapons, from firearms to Cold Weapons.
It was a true shapeshifter.
The two watching from behind stared, their eyes wide. ’This is insane!’
"Is this mecha you’re designing a shapeshifter?" Gu Kaiwen walked over, his eyes glued to the mecha arm.
"Yep," Shi Feng nodded without looking up, his gaze still fixed on the screen. "The Empire doesn’t have mechas like this yet. They’re all heavy-assault, high-speed, or lightweight models. I’m not a big fan of the recently released beast-type mechas."
"So I decided to design one that I actually like."
Gu Kaiwen immediately clapped a hand on his shoulder. "Bro, after you finish this one, you gotta build one for me too."
"Don’t worry, I’ll pay for all the raw materials myself!" Gu Kaiwen declared, patting his chest.
Every mecha class, they were incredibly envious of the students who owned their own mechas.
These weren’t the standard training models, but personal mechas that were uniquely their own.
When they were deployed, their custom colors and their powerful, imposing presence made it impossible for anyone to look away.
Thankfully, Shi Feng now knew how to design them himself, which meant that the dream of owning a personal mecha was no longer just a fantasy.
"I’m still just feeling my way through this, one step at a time. Whether or not I can actually build a complete one is still a big question mark," Shi Feng said, not agreeing right away. He genuinely wasn’t sure if he could pull it off.
But the others had complete faith in Shi Feng. After all, he used to be a weapons designer.
He had held a high-ranking position at the research institute and designed many weapons with devastating killing power.
"You’re being too humble. You’ve already managed to build a mecha arm," Gu Kaiwen said, pointing to the arm in front of him.
This particular arm was made of several different-colored metal plates, which Shi Feng had scrounged from the second-hand market.
If decommissioned, second-hand mechas weren’t so expensive, he wouldn’t have had to resort to scavenging for salvaged parts and cobbling them together.
Salvaged mecha parts were incredibly cheap. You could buy a huge pile for ten thousand Star Coins, regardless of the model.
The mecha arm was primarily silver, with smaller sections of black and then white. For the arm’s five fingers, Shi Feng had used pink parts.
As a result, it looked like a mismatched piece of junk.
"A single arm is one thing, but the core is the main problem," Shi Feng said, pushing him aside and turning to look for another book on the desk.
The Mecha Manufacturing Room also contained a large bookshelf, filled with books on mecha manufacturing.
Shi Feng read whenever he had a spare moment, absorbing all the knowledge from the books.
In addition to reading, he would also watch online video tutorials posted by master craftsmen. Whenever he ran into something he didn’t understand, Shi Feng would post questions for them.
Since the first question was always free of charge, he would ask one master a question, and then find a new master when he had another problem.
He was incredibly diligent, and his two other roommates had taken notice of his efforts.
"I have faith in you," Gu Kaiwen said with great seriousness. "You’re a genius when it comes to building things. There’s nothing you can’t make."
Shi Feng had shown a talent for this sort of thing even as a child. They had once taken apart an alarm clock, and none of them could put it back together.
Just when they thought it was a lost cause, Shi Feng spent an entire night and managed to reassemble it perfectly.
From that day on, they knew Shi Feng had an incredible knack for mechanics.
"That’s right, have some confidence in yourself," Lin Jingjing chimed in. She stood beside the mecha arm, her eyes filled with unconcealable excitement as she stared at it.
Shi Feng paid them no mind, sitting back down in his chair and burying his head in his book.
Seeing this, the two of them sat down nearby and began tidying up the things scattered across the desk.
Just as they finished cleaning, Feng He and another person walked in. The moment the two of them entered, before they could even speak, the three inside turned to look at them.
Seeing them turn, Feng He scratched his head in confusion. "How did you know we were here?"
"The moment you walked in, the stench of blood was overwhelming," Gu Kaiwen explained.
Hearing this, the two of them immediately raised their arms to sniff themselves and realized the smell of blood was indeed very strong.
No wonder the others had noticed their arrival.
"Instructor An Ni had us familiarizing ourselves with mutant beasts today," Feng He explained. "She even had me dissect one."
Watching the two of them so busy, the other three felt like a bunch of loafers, just idling around now that their own special training was over.
"Tsk, looks like you two are keeping busy," Gu Kaiwen commented. He then leaned back in his chair and added, "I need to work harder, too."
"Work harder on what? What do you want to learn?" Lin Jingjing asked.
"To become the Soldier King," Gu Kaiwen replied.
The Soldier King—it was his obsession.
To become the most powerful existence and then save the world.
"Heh, but your spiritual power isn’t up to snuff," Shi Feng said with a chuckle, bursting his bubble.
"That’s why I need you to build me a kickass mecha," Gu Kaiwen shot back, looking at him. "If you lack the strength, make up for it with firepower."
