Lin Xuan and Zi Yi went downstairs and handed the weapons to the blacksmith. Reforging five weapons at once was a considerable number.
As the blacksmith was about to toss the five weapons in, Lin Xuan interjected, "Won’t there be a problem if you throw five Spiritual Artifacts in at once?"
"What? You’re saying these are five Spiritual Artifacts?" The blacksmith froze, then chuckled. "Are you sure they’re really five Spiritual Artifacts? Not even an Appraiser from the Ten Thousand Treasures Pavilion would dare make such a claim!"
Hearing this, the other blacksmiths also started to laugh. To them, this was a ridiculous fantasy. Having five Spiritual Artifacts would be normal if they were all standard-issue weapons, but these five were old and difficult to identify. For Lin Xuan to claim all five were Spiritual Artifacts was absurd.
The joke was ludicrous, and it fell flat. If they were really five Spiritual Artifacts, the Appraisers at the Ten Thousand Treasures Pavilion might as well go out of business! Lin Xuan was essentially shaming their establishment.
Zi Yi said calmly, "Put them in separately." Her voice was flat, yet it carried an undeniable authority.
The laughter stopped abruptly, as if a hand had clamped around the blacksmiths’ throats. The head blacksmith was clearly unhappy, but he still chose to separate the five weapons, placing one in each Forging Furnace.
The Forging Furnaces here were rather ordinary, so they didn’t dare put two Spiritual Artifacts in a single one, lest it explode. A furnace explosion would spray fire everywhere, and causing a fire would be a serious problem—especially since the Flames within each furnace were anything but simple.
Once the five weapons were placed in the Forging Furnaces, everyone watched with cold eyes, waiting to see just how many of them were actually Spiritual Artifacts. If there was only one, the scorn he’d face would be far worse than mere mockery.
Lin Xuan’s expression remained calm. If these five weren’t Spiritual Artifacts, he would gouge his own eyes out. He had to admit, though, that Zi Yi was truly decisive. She offered no explanation and acted without the slightest hesitation.
A moment later, the five Forging Furnaces began to shake violently in succession, stunning everyone present—including Zi Yi. It wasn’t that she completely trusted Lin Xuan; that was impossible. She had merely been minimizing the risk. After all, separating them was a simple precaution that required nothing extra.
A shaking Forging Furnace was proof of a Spiritual Artifact. But now, all five Forging Furnaces were shaking. This meant all five weapons were Spiritual Artifacts!
"They... they really are five Spiritual Artifacts!" Cold sweat dripped from the blacksmith’s forehead. He shot a horrified glance at Lin Xuan and gulped. If he had put them all in together, the furnace would have already exploded.
Lin Xuan couldn’t be bothered to explain. There was no need to explain to people like them; it would be useless. It was all about status. If he were a senior Appraiser or a supremely powerful expert, no one would have said a word.
Although he was currently in the limelight, he was too young and his Cultivation was relatively low, so it was impossible to win their respect. If a Spirit Pill Stage expert had said the same thing, he guaranteed they wouldn’t have dared to even fart.
SWOOSH SWOOSH SWOOSH!
Shortly after, the five Spiritual Artifacts flew out one after another. The blacksmiths scrambled to catch them, then respectfully presented them. "Here are the five Spiritual Artifacts. We apologize for doubting you earlier."
Their attitudes had done a complete one-eighty. Only after he displayed true ability were they finally convinced.
"I’m used to it." Lin Xuan looked at Zi Yi and said with a faint smile, "Miss Zi Yi, am I qualified for the position of Chief Appraiser?"
"If even Young Master Lin isn’t qualified, then no one is."
Zi Yi smiled again. This time it was a sweet smile, but in Lin Xuan’s eyes, it was like a poisonous rose or a cup of sweet, poisoned wine. He didn’t dare fall for it, and he certainly wouldn’t make the mistake of treating Zi Yi as a simple woman.
Zi Yi then casually picked up two of the Spiritual Artifacts and handed them to Lin Xuan. "This is your payment. Is Young Master Lin satisfied?"
"In terms of immediate profit, no. But from a long-term perspective, I am very satisfied," Lin Xuan said with a smile.
Under normal circumstances, he would only have to pay the price of a Middle Grade or Upper Grade Treasure Artifact to get a chance at the fifth-floor lottery. He could have claimed all five weapons for himself, but from a long-term standpoint, this arrangement was far more meaningful.
One must always keep an eye on the future. A person fixated on just these five Spiritual Artifacts would never amount to much.
"Rest assured, the Ten Thousand Treasures Pavilion never shortchanges anyone," Zi Yi said with a radiant smile, then added, "as long as they provide a corresponding benefit."
The Ten Thousand Treasures Pavilion didn’t support freeloaders. Without the requisite skill, why would they keep these Appraisers around?
"Naturally." Lin Xuan unceremoniously placed the two weapons into his Storage Space. "As Chief Appraiser, what kind of tasks will I need to perform? Or what sort of things will I be appraising?"
To his surprise, Zi Yi shook her head. "You don’t need to appraise anything."
"I don’t need to appraise anything?" Lin Xuan asked, confused. "Then what’s the point of me being an Appraiser?"
"Right now, you just need to focus on improving your Cultivation. When you reach Essence Pill Stage Cultivation, you will be assigned a real mission." Zi Yi had just given him a very long-term goal. He was only at the Fourth Layer of Spirit Refining Stage, yet she was already talking about the Essence Pill Stage.
"Sounds like a dangerous mission," Lin Xuan said with a smile.
’A mission requiring at least Essence Pill Stage Cultivation? It had to be dangerous—I didn’t even need to think about it. Why else would they need me to improve my Cultivation?’
"It has a certain degree of risk, but it’s not exceptionally dangerous." Zi Yi pointed upward with a faint smile. "The weapons on the fifth floor were obtained from that very mission. Now that Young Master Lin has taken all the Spiritual Artifacts, you won’t have a chance to appraise any more for a while. Unless, of course, you’d like to take on more trivial tasks, like appraising the value of weapons or Elixir Pills that others bring in."
She didn’t elaborate, but it was clearly a massive undertaking. ’Those weapons must have come from a place like ancient ruins, and in enormous quantities. It must have been too hard to pick out the Spiritual Artifacts on-site, so they just brought the whole lot back.’
To the Ten Thousand Treasures Pavilion, Treasure Artifacts had value, but it was nothing compared to the value of Spiritual Artifacts. As for those other trivial tasks, he had no interest. The main reasons were that he didn’t have that much time and the profits were a bit low; he definitely wasn’t going to do such odd jobs.
"Looks like it’ll be a long time before I can make a big score again," Lin Xuan said with a laugh.
"Don’t worry, there’s plenty of time," Zi Yi replied with a smile. "As our Chief Appraiser, you can come to the Ten Thousand Treasures Pavilion and purchase anything you want at a thirty percent discount. How does that sound?"
Lin Xuan’s eyes lit up. He grinned. "A thirty percent discount? Looks like this is a great deal after all. This Chief Appraiser position is definitely worth it!"
’As it happens, there are quite a few things I want to buy. This status will really allow me to do a lot. And with the Ten Thousand Treasures Pavilion as my backer, who would dare to mess with me now?’
’These days, you’d be embarrassed to even leave the house without some kind of backing.’
