Soul Emperor Awakening

Chapter 60 - 59: The Last Wish

"Sixty-three, sixty-four, sixty-five..." The Steward counted the number of giant bears Lin Xuan was tossing out, cold sweat beading on his forehead. All traces of his earlier mockery had vanished.

They had all thought Lin Xuan had only managed to hunt a single giant bear at the First Layer of the Spirit Refining Stage. Now they knew they were wrong, and the number was still climbing.

Chen Yun’s face was ashen. He had come expecting a good show, but now felt as if he’d been ruthlessly slapped across the face. ’No wonder Lin Xuan was able to fight Zhang Qi. Just looking at all these giant bears, you can tell how hard he’s been pushing himself these past two months.’

True strength was forged in the crucible of frantic combat, a principle Lin Xuan had perfectly embodied. What shocked the crowd, beyond the sheer number and cultivation level of the beasts, was that the body of every single giant bear was perfectly intact. If they had been reduced to piles of gore, the Hunting Hall wouldn’t have accepted them.

Not only would their value be minimal, but they would be too gory and would soil the Hunting Hall. The carcasses Lin Xuan had produced were clean of any blood, save for a small trickle from the bears’ mouths. That was all.

As geniuses themselves, they could naturally tell the bears had been killed by concussive force. Their internal organs had been completely pulverized—a simple and brutal death. To achieve such a result required not only extremely high cultivation but also immense Control Power. The slightest deviation would have caused the entire giant bear to explode!

Slaying a giant bear was easy enough, but killing every single one so cleanly was incredibly difficult.

Yet Lin Xuan had done it, and he had hunted so many. For him to hunt Sixth Layer giant bears with only a Second Layer of Spirit Refining Stage cultivation was, in their eyes, simply unbelievable. Demon Beasts were weaker than human cultivators, but killing them with ease was still difficult, especially while preserving the corpses so perfectly.

"This is insane... He’s already at over ninety. Is he still not done?"

"With this many kills, his daily combat experience must be immense. No wonder he could beat Zhang Qi!"

...

A Cultivator without real combat experience could only be said to have flashy but impractical skills. Lin Xuan’s brutal efficiency was what made him a true man. Those who originally had a problem with Lin Xuan were now changing their minds, but Chen Yun was not one of them.

His mood only grew heavier. He knew Lin Xuan was strong, but he never expected him to be this formidable.

Chen Yun’s cultivation was at the Fifth Layer of the Spirit Refining Stage; killing these giant bears would be child’s play for him. He could have killed just as many. But to accomplish this at the Second Layer of the Spirit Refining Stage? ’That’s just a pipe dream!’

’In six months, forget surpassing Brother Wan, I might be easily surpassed by *him*... Dammit, is he even human? Does he really only have a Fourth-class Talent?’ Chen Yun’s expression grew increasingly grim. If fighting wasn’t forbidden, he would have killed Lin Xuan with a single punch to prevent future trouble.

"Last is the Cyan-Scaled Python. Go ahead and calculate how many points all this can be exchanged for." Seeing the Steward’s sweat-drenched expression, Lin Xuan let a smile grace his lips. ’This is nothing. If I had included the incomplete giant bear carcasses, there’s no telling how many there would have been.’

There were countless giant bears in the Mysterious Fragrance Forest, but after his frenzied hunting spree, their population density had at least been thinned out.

The Cyan-Scaled Python!

The crowd gasped. Seeing the enormous Cyan-Scaled Python, they couldn’t help but shudder. Lin Xuan was simply a monster. He had even killed a Cyan-Scaled Python, a creature renowned for its incredible Defense Power. ’Could it be that his ability to fight underwater is just that astonishing?’

Seeing this, Chen Yun’s face turned even uglier. He wanted nothing more than to turn and leave to discuss countermeasures with Wan Ning. Six months was more than enough time for Lin Xuan to mature. He couldn’t dare to imagine Lin Xuan beating Wan Ning, but... ’what if he really does win?’

"O-one... in total, there are one hundred thirty-six giant bears. Ninety-one of them are at the Fourth Layer of the Spirit Refining Stage, and... at the Fifth Layer of the Spirit Refining Stage..." the Steward announced, wiping away cold sweat as he tallied the numbers. He finally concluded, "Plus one Cyan-Scaled Python, the grand total is two hundred thirteen points."

"Only two hundred thirteen points..."

Lin Xuan frowned. That point total seemed rather low. Besides being used to exchange for days in the Cyan Cloud Tower, points could also be traded for things like Elixir Pills. He wasn’t sure how many points Elixir Pills cost, but a single day in the Cyan Cloud Tower cost fifty points.

He had over two hundred points, the fruit of two months’ labor, but that could only be exchanged for four days. It was clear just how precious time in the Cyan Cloud Tower was.

"Then exchange it all. It’s not like I have any other use for them," Lin Xuan said.

He then turned to Chen Yun. "Senior Brother Chen, what was that you were saying earlier? I didn’t quite hear you. Could you repeat it?" A faint smile remained on his face, clearly mocking Chen Yun’s previous remarks.

"Junior Brother Lin, your skills are impressive. I hope you can achieve even greater breakthroughs in the future!" Chen Yun snorted, then turned and stalked away.

How could he possibly have the face to stay any longer? All his earlier sarcastic remarks had been thrown right back at him. Without even needing to say a word in response, Lin Xuan had already bested him.

"Which one of you is Lin Yunlong?" a cold voice called out from the entrance.

"M-Miss Yiyi!" When Chen Yun saw who had entered, he nearly swallowed his tongue. He stared wide-eyed at the beautiful woman before him, gulping audibly.

Everyone turned toward the voice and saw that Qing Yiyi had truly appeared. Many of the men present looked at her with adoration. Qing Yiyi had a great many suitors. Not only was she the Grand Elder’s daughter, but her own talent was exceedingly high. Any man who married her would see his status skyrocket.

Unfortunately, she had yet to show interest in any man. She was always cold and aloof, a change that seemed to have occurred around the time her father went missing.

"I am Lin Yunlong!"

Lin Xuan squinted, sizing her up. He could tell at a glance that she was Qing Liuyun’s daughter. Those eyes, which seemed capable of seeing through anyone’s heart, were strikingly similar to Qing Liuyun’s.

"You’re Lin Yunlong?" Qing Yiyi walked toward him, her brow furrowed. "What’s the deal with all these giant bears? Put them away already!"

"Y-yes, my apologies! These are the giant bears Lin Yunlong brought back from his hunt. We just finished the tally. I’ll clear them away right now." The Steward quickly stored the giant bear carcasses, restoring the hall to its previous spaciousness.

"Oh, you hunted these? Did you have the Fifth Elder send for me just so I could look at these giant bears? Or perhaps you wanted to meet me in person, hoping to become one of my suitors? If it’s either of those reasons, you can get lost." Qing Yiyi’s face was a mask of frost, and her voice held not a shred of sweetness. She was breathtakingly beautiful, but unfortunately, she was an ice queen.

’Is it that the more amazing one’s talent is, the more arrogant and cold they become?’

’Whether she was an ice queen or not had nothing to do with him. He just wanted to fulfill Qing Liuyun’s last wish.’

"Senior, I’ve found Miss Yiyi," Lin Xuan’s voice transmitted to Qing Liuyun’s soul.

"Yiyi!" The slumbering Qing Liuyun’s eyes shot open. Through the Soul Pearl, he could see his daughter clearly, and tears immediately blurred his vision. "Yiyi, it’s really Yiyi! Wonderful! She’s safe, and she looks more and more like her mother..."

Even the powerful shed tears, especially when faced with the daughter they could never see again.

"Senior, what is the wish you want to fulfill?" Lin Xuan asked with a sigh.

"My last wish... Just being able to see Yiyi has already fulfilled my last wish. If I had to name another, it would be to teach the Cyan Cloud Step one last time," Qing Liuyun said, reigning in his emotions.

"Teach the Cyan Cloud Step one last time?" Lin Xuan said without a second thought, "No problem!"

"Are you mute?" Qing Yiyi asked, clearly displeased. If Qing Piaoyun hadn’t specifically instructed her to come, she really wouldn’t have wanted to waste her time.

Lin Xuan took a deep breath, looked at Qing Yiyi, and said in a heavy tone, "The reason I asked for you, Miss Yiyi, is to teach you the Cyan Cloud Step."

The moment he said this, the entire hall was stunned. The Cyan Cloud Step was created by her own father, yet Lin Xuan was offering to teach it to her. Was he sure he hadn’t misspoken?
