Soulless Soul

Chapter 76: The Real Weapon

Chapter 76: The Real Weapon

The bone spear of a dark color flew through the air with all the strength Sky could muster. The dark spear was thrust with all the power of his body and a big part of the Soul Clone’s willpower.

It flew through the gray mist, the black soul energy liquid on the bone spear solidifying into a thin blade-like structure at the tip, making a hissing noise as it sliced through the mist withprecision.

The spear pierced through the eye of the Savage Beast.

It passed through the tiny eye of the massive creature without even touching the numerous stone-like carapace plates surrounding it, using the weakest point on the big animal’s body as a leverage.

It made a wet squishing noise as the sharpened tip of the bone spear went through the lens of the eye, piercing deep into the sensory cluster at the back of the eye socket.

The sharpened tip of the spear sliced through the soft tissue of the eye socket. Sky could feel how hard the bones at the back of the eye were pushing against the front of the spear.

Then, the thick, blue blood started to pour out from the hole in the eye. No mercy at all.

Sky could feel the liquid blood and the semi-liquid mass of the eye and its surrounding bones squirting from the socket, all over his knuckles, up his arms, and burning his skin.

The Savage Beast’s body jerked backwards with the force of the spear piercing through its eye, its remaining body convulsing.

The force pushed the creature backwards, and its remaining legs kicked furiously at the air, trying to push away from the spear piercing through its eye.

Sky was forced upwards as well, his body hanging from the beast’s grip.

The remaining eye of the Savage Beast narrowed, the only visible part of the eye focusing on Sky, the tiny human who had managed to hurt it.

The glass-like substance of the eye shimmered, reflecting the crimson light of Sky’s body.

Sky gritted his teeth in pain as another spasm writhed through his ribs.

The force of the push had pressed Sky’s chest tighter against the beast’s body, digging the sharp edge of the massive creature’s body armor into his chest.

Sky’s vision blurred at the edges as he felt his ears start to ring.

If he let go of the bone spear, the Savage Beast would have easily thrown him off and swallowed him whole.

He had to finish it off in the darkness.

Sky twisted the bone spear in the eye socket with both of his hands, pushing as hard as he could, ignoring the pain in his fingers.

He locked his elbows, pushing his body weight against the bone spear.

Sky pushed the spear deeper into the eye socket of the Savage Beast. He wanted to pierce through the brain mass, severing the neural connections, and stop the creature from being able to move its limbs with such an unnatural quickness.

The bone spear scraped against the inside of the eye socket, making a wet squishing sound as it worked its way deeper into the mass of the beast’s head.

The Savage Beast’s body shook as if something inside of it was struggling to get out.

But, it didn’t die.

Something was wrong.

The pulsating of the Savage Beast’s exposed shoulder flesh didn’t slow down; if anything, it started to become more rapid.

The Savage Beast’s eye focused on Sky once more, its stare locked on the small human.

What was strange was that it didn’t seem to lose any focus. The creature’s body appeared to be built in a way that a single brain at the front of the skull wasn’t its main processing center.

Then... It started making a strange sound.

"Ha...?"

Sky stopped, his hands still gripping the shaft of the bone spear as he listened to the sound coming from the Savage Beast’s jaws.

A strange clicking sound was coming from the creature’s jaws. Sky could feel the vibrations in his body as the sound echoed through the labyrinth.

Sky’s eyes widened as he looked at the Savage Beast’s opened jaws, revealing the sharp points of teeth inside.

The inner shears of the Savage Beast’s jaws slowly rotated, dripping a thick acid-like fluid from their edges as they did so.

It almost sounded like the Savage Beast was laughing.

It was mocking him for not being able to understand what the high-level dungeon was all about.

Despite the bone spear piercing through its eye, the Savage Beast looked almost amused at the failed attempt of the human to kill it.

It was a monster, one of the apex predators created by the Dungeon Array to withstand the punishment of mortals. A single bone shard wasn’t going to be enough to finish it off.

Sky’s face darkened. The frustration welled up inside of him, replacing the fear as he realized what he had miscalculated.

"You’ve got to be kidding me." Sky growled, his teeth bared as he stared into the Savage Beast’s eye.

The Savage Beast’s grip around Sky’s body tightened. It accepted the challenge, its remaining two forelegs squeezing around the small human with malicious intent, ignoring the pressure of Sky’s body pushing against it.

The legs of the Savage Beast clenched tighter, exerting more pressure.

Sky could hear the fabric of his clothes tearing against the rough surface of the creature’s body.

Sky’s eyes narrowed as he felt the iron-like plates of the Savage Beast’s body dig into his own ribs.

His body was reaching its limit, and if it continued like this, Sky would be digested whole before the sun set.

Fine, if a bone spear wasn’t going to be enough...

Sky opened his hand, allowing the bone spear to fall to the ground with a plop.

The pale bone spear fell to the ground, landing in the thick mud of the labyrinth.

The Savage Beast looked at him, its body frozen for a moment as it processed what had just happened.

For a moment, the Savage Beast was confused. Its mind couldn’t process why the human would lower his guard when he was a mere distance away from being crushed.

Then, the Savage Beast’s mandibles clicked again.

It almost sounded like it was laughing. It thought that the human had finally understood the truth of the food chain and was giving up.

Sky sneered. The blood trickling down his cheek from the earlier injury gave him a savage look.

"You seem pretty confident," Sky said, his hand moving to his side.

Sky didn’t reach into a pouch or a weapon sheath. Instead, he pulled the condensed mass of spiritual energy that resided in his soul core out, manifesting the familiar red glow of a magical blade.

The Savage Beast’s clicking stopped.

It looked at Sky, uncertainty creeping into its gaze as the massive creature felt the sharp increase in spiritual pressure coming from the human.

Sky’s fingers wrapped around the familiar hilt of a weapon.

SHING!

The Blood Blade appeared in Sky’s hand, the sudden manifestation of the weapon accompanied by the sharp metallic ring of the blade.

The crimson spiritual energy of the Blood Blade shot out, illuminating Sky’s face with a sinister red glow. The light of the blade was strong, almost blinding, and it cut through the gray mist, exposing the black mud of the labyrinth floor to reveal the red light.

The Savage Beast looked at Sky, its arrogance replaced with uncertainty as it instinctively wanted to pull away from him, but it was already too late.

Sky looked into the eye of the Savage Beast.

"Unfortunately..." Sky said, raising the Blood Blade with a smooth motion of his arm that didn’t show any signs of discomfort.

"...that wasn’t my real weapon."

SLASH!

The Blood Blade flashed, and the Savage Beast’s head separated from its body, the sheer force of the slash tearing through the thick mass of the creature’s body like wet paper.

The Savage Beast’s body fell to the ground with a loud

BOOM!

The force of the impact sent ripples of the black sludge and broken bone pieces flying out, hitting the labyrinth walls.

Sky was sent flying away from the impact as well, twisting in the air before landing on his feet.

The body of the Savage Beast turned to dark particles, scattering around the labyrinth as the Dungeon Array consumed the remains of the defeated monster.

Sky landed on his knees, standing up to his full height as he looked at the Blood Blade, a few droplets of the blue liquid still dripping from the edge of the blade before vanishing.

The Array appeared before Sky’s eyes.

[YOU HAVE KILLED]

[GREEN-RANK BERSERK SAVAGE BEAST SLAIN.]

Sky exhaled as he looked at the message.

Then, he looked at the useless bone spear on the ground at his feet.

"...Yeah," Sky muttered as he sheathed the Blood Blade, "I think I’ll stick with my sword."
