Chapter 1284 - 1263: First Entry into the Forbidden LandChapter 1284: Chapter 1263: First Entry into the Forbidden Land
Strands of hair drifted by, brushing past the earlobe with a gentle breeze. Xiao Lin suddenly felt a tug at his heart. Behind him stood someone different from the others, not clad in pure white, but with dark purple brocade beneath a black robe. Turning slowly, Xiao Lin saw clearly this time. Although there wasn’t a significant change in the face, the aura, often mistaken by others, indicated this person was different.
With past lessons learned, Xiao Lin dared not be careless. He cautiously observed this person, their mutual gaze a form of silent confrontation. Suddenly, he let out a gasp! It was as if expressing regret for some mistake he’d made, his delicate face wrinkling in annoyance.
Clearly so distinct, how could it have been mistaken? As if aware of Xiao Lin’s surprise, the person behind him took a seat in front of him. Even the concealed aura naturally emitted outward.
The man remained silent, pouring himself a cup of tea. There was an air of aloof arrogance in his every gesture. Xiao Lin, standing aside, felt awkward in comparison, his hands smeared with dried blood, uncomfortable and sticky.
The man’s gaze followed Xiao Lin’s movements, landing on his hands, where spikes protruded conspicuously amid the red and black.
"What’s the plan?" Suddenly, Xiao Lin’s wrist was grabbed. He wanted to block, but it was too late; his left wrist was firmly pinned by the man’s grip.
The warmth of the palm was hotter than imagined, contrasting with the man’s appearance. Realizing there was no malice, as the spike was slowly drawn out from his sleeve, Xiao Lin instinctively swung a punch towards the man’s right cheek.
Without overthinking, relying solely on instinct, Xiao Lin’s right hand swung swiftly outward, his fist colliding with the man’s forearm. Despite Xiao Lin’s sudden surge of strength, the man’s arm absorbed it completely, unable to break past the half-raised arm until it dropped after the spike was removed.
The spike’s material was clearly steel, its craftsmanship neither delicate nor refined, appearing hand-ground with friction marks. Its notable feature was the blood groove in the middle, hinting at some value.
"The Dark New Master’s talent manifests here!" The man spoke, invoking deep memories that resurfaced, identical to the time on the Deserted Island. Despite striking similarity, the man’s voice carried not only depth but also heart-wrenching sorrow. Yes, it was the self-forgotten aspect.
With eyes wide open, Xiao Lin stared at the man’s face. Suddenly, he wished to tear apart the skin to see the truth beneath, curious if, like the previous person seen, it held absolute shock or if the face beneath was unchanged.
"Trust me, you wouldn’t be pleased to see this face." As if reading Xiao Lin’s thoughts, the man spoke softly. The spike bathed in the turbulent water, the flow washing away the blood, its gleaming silver even more dazzling, as if reborn, save for the groove in the center. "The other one!"
The man’s voice held a magical quality, and in his presence, Xiao Lin felt like an obedient child, handing over the other spike willingly. "Customary left-hander! Both hands show clear lineage!" The depth of the central groove was slightly more than the right, but barely different.
The reborn spike lay flat on the table, shimmering brightly, yet Xiao Lin had lost interest in admiring it. His dark eyes locked onto the man’s gaze, unable to speak for a long while.
"These two items remain here, they’re near the end of their lifespan."
"How is he?"
The man chuckled, pointing the spike towards the courtyard beyond. Despite seeing nothing, Xiao Lin’s anxious heart found relief. "I promised to comply, but I’ve come not to keep watch, but to uncover an answer!"
The man’s appearance still seemed as if smiling, yet his words from thin lips suddenly chilled Xiao Lin to the bone. "No need to ask who you are!"
"Who am I really?" Xiao Lin was stubborn, a nagging suspicion growing like a seed in fertile soil, uneasy.
"Unease! Anger! Doubt!" The man abruptly halted, his slightly muddled eyes shining a bright gleam. "You! Fragile indeed. Get out!"
The final word was nearly unbearable, pushing Xiao Lin’s endurance to the limit. He stood abruptly, grabbing the spike from the table, without warning targeting the man’s face, striking in a furious chain of attacks aimed steadily at the man’s face.
Easily neutralizing Xiao Lin’s chaotic attack, the man opened his arms, flying backward, staying within range but not retaliating. Like teasing a chick, he casually sent out gentle palms, striking Xiao Lin’s lower left abdomen, disrupting his prearranged attack path. Over time, Xiao Lin’s movements grew sluggish, transforming from attack to strict defense, becoming increasingly clumsy.
The so-called restraint was what the man practiced, each strike stopping short in the face of counterforce, refraining from excess actions, prompting Xiao Lin to repeat the sequence only to be struck at the abdomen again.
Xiao Lin was clever, even in heated moments deciphering the man’s intent, yet this only added to his shock. This weakness known by very few people was now unavoidable before a true master, like the man before him. "How do you know?" Xiao Lin refused to believe this person was unrelated, adamant against abandoning his pursuit for results. His initial reason for coming here now solidified his stay; no matter the external chaos, those seeking his life were welcome to come—it was his life they sought. Fear of outside threats was futile!
Deliberating silently on how to make the man speak, Xiao Lin already heard his voice. "Xiao Family heir! Dragon Soul Military Doctor! Young Master Xiao! Xiao Lin!"
"What?" Xiao Lin was stunned.
"You are the answer to who!" (To be continued. If you enjoy this work, feel free to vote for recommendations and monthly votes on Qidian (qidian.com). Your support is my biggest motivation. Mobile users please read on m.qidian.com.)
