Chapter 1293 - 1272: Turmoil at the Wedding Banquet (Part 1)

Chapter 1293: Chapter 1272: Turmoil at the Wedding Banquet (Part 1)

The news that Elder Murong’s birthday celebration would be held in Palermo quickly spread among the well-known figures in the business world, also attracting congratulations from other huge families. To those with some experience and knowledge, it was well understood that these retired family elders lived year-round on a private island owned by the Murong Family. To this day, hardly anyone knows the exact location of this island, where the headquarters of the Murong Clan is constructed. Not to mention establishing modern facilities on an island, even subsequent supplies would require consuming a lot of support and money. Understanding the difference between an island and a city, the demand for electricity and freshwater is not something an ordinary person could bear. From this, one can see how formidable the power behind the Murong Clan really is.

Everyone who received an invitation would undoubtedly visit; it was a great honor. To be considered a guest by the Murong Family means one is definitely a figure of influence. However, while attending the birthday feast, curiosity about the chosen venue arose for many, but mostly it was the large scale of the event that seemed not to fit Elder Murong’s character.

In the afternoon, Palermo’s most luxurious hotel was already in full preparation. Besides the police in plain clothes, the mayor of Palermo also brought in part of the national security personnel to serve as bodyguards for Elder Murong, providing protection in secret. Families and corporate forces closely connected with the Murong Clan had already arrived in Palermo early and checked into this hotel.

The entire city of Palermo was abuzz due to the event that afternoon. Numerous business tycoons and government officials arrived at the hotel hours before the banquet began, while those special personages from famous families arrived even a day earlier. All journalists were kept outside, and the whole hotel was tightly guarded. It is not an exaggeration to say that even a fly wouldn’t be able to get in.

Luxury cars drove into the hotel one by one, entering the parking area in an orderly fashion under the security’s guidance. Those who received invitations were prestigious figures, and of course, their family rules were extremely strict. Anyone daring to act inappropriately in such a setting would not live to see the consequences. However, this strictness made the occasion, which was supposed to be joyful, seem like it had taken on the somber air of a funeral.

When Xiao Lin’s white Land Rover carried Xia Xue and Consort Ling into the hotel’s parking area, this thought suddenly flashed through his mind. It was as solemn as if some great figure had passed away, and each guest coming to congratulate was eerily expressionless.

Sitting in the back seat, Xia Xue tilted her head at Xiao Lin’s unconscious smile. "What are you grinning about all by yourself?" she said while touching her own belly. Although it was still very flat now, she would always subconsciously hold it, which the Black Doctor referred to as the protective instinct of maternal love. He strongly disapproved of Xiao Lin bringing Xia Xue to the birthday feast. Not to mention the Murong Family’s attitude towards Xia Xue, the little one inside her was not yet in a stable period. Should anything happen to the mother, who could afford the aftermath?

When two grown men, speaking from a professional medical perspective, tried to persuade Xia Xue to give up, she unexpectedly produced the invitation sent by the Murong Family. Shamelessly, she claimed how losing in terms of pomp would be shamefully embarrassing; what was there to be afraid of with Xiao Lin around? Her words immediately left the driver speechless, thus she was brought over. However, out of safety concerns, Xiao Lin still had Consort Ling accompany to fully protect her in his absence.

Although the Murong Clan was not strict in forbidding personal bodyguards from entering the banquet, given the high status of the attendees, any mistakes would be hard to explain for the Murong Family. Nonetheless, this did not mean firearms could be brought in along with them.

Thus, when Consort Ling was stopped at the security check, the hotel security awkwardly requested him to enter a room. Xiao Lin signaled Xia Xue not to worry, having roughly understood the situation. "Wait here for me, I’ll go take a look. Don’t wander off, and definitely don’t move out of my sight, understood? This place is dangerous, and if anything happens, it’s hard for me to rescue you. Got it?" After Xia Xue nodded in agreement with repeated instructions, Xiao Lin followed into the small room.

Consort Ling merely stood there, ignoring the requests of the inquiring security, while the security on the other side seemed equally hesitant to take action. The two sides were thus at a stalemate until Xiao Lin’s entrance eased the awkward atmosphere. A person who seemed like the leader, recognizing the well-dressed new arrival and identifying him from the surveillance, was particularly amiable toward Xiao Lin.

"Apologies, sirs. Could you please disarm? We have a rule against bringing firearms into the venue, so kindly ask our bodyguard here to hand over his weapon. We assure proper safekeeping with no mishaps," the leader hoped Xiao Lin could convince his bodyguard to relinquish his sidearm. After all, as the employer, he was expected to listen somewhat!

"Hand over your weapons. We can’t act carelessly here." Xiao Lin’s cooperation immediately eased the leader, feeling content to deal with a reasonable patron.

Indeed, this was someone else’s turf; not allowing weapons was understandable. As guests, it was only natural to comply with the host’s protocol.

It was merely relinquishing weapons, not directly opposing them, so there was no need to cause a scene.

Consort Ling showed some reluctance, as carrying a weapon was his habit. Despite a somewhat disdainful look, he complied obediently, placing two baton-like objects from under his clothes into the security’s hands. One of the more timid security personnel exclaimed, noticing bloodstains on one end of the baton, while the entire sharp part had been discolored from prolonged use in blood, a deadly weapon indeed, incomparable to what other bodyguards handed over.

The leader coughed awkwardly, accepting it with both hands, the weight more than enough to burden him as he handed it down to his staff.

"Any other issues? Should I undergo a check as well?"

"Ah, no, no, no need!" How dare we check you! The leader shook his head frantically while muttering internally, all today’s guests were untouchable figures unless someone was overly reckless, causing no end of trouble. The rest here merely hoped to seize the opportunity to gain a foothold, regardless of who. As long as someone noticed them, that was the way out. Who wanted to be a security guard forever?
