Chapter 741: Wait, Mum, you’re not angry?

“Politicians being what they are?” Pevaphio repeated.

As she asked her question, Adam remembered to whom he was speaking and thus said, “My apologies, please ignore my remark.”

“No, please. Tell me what you really think about politicians, I insist,” Pevaphio said with a smile that didn’t quite reach her eyes.

“Mum,” Tephe complained, but Pevaphio just ignored her daughter as she continued to smile at Adam.

Adam sighed before saying, “Politicians are untrustworthy individuals who claim to be working for the greater good, but most of the time only do things that benefit themselves.

They hardly ever give honest answers to questions that would paint them in a bad light and, more often than not, avoid answering.

In fact, I remember seeing an article back on Earth which said that only eighteen percent of people believe what politicians say.”

There was silence in the mess hall as Adam finished speaking, and everyone looked at Pevaphio’s holographic screen nervously.

After a few moments of staring at Adam, Pevaphio sighed before saying, “Well, you're not wrong.”

“Huh!” Adam replied in surprise.

“Wait, Mum, you're not angry?” Tephe asked in surprise.

“Why would I be, little one?” Pevaphio asked with a smile.

“Because you're a politician,” Tephe replied.

Pevaphio laughed before saying, “Barely; I mean, I only ever attend the Universal Senate when it’s mandatory. Also, when have you ever seen me doing political work?”

“Err,” Tephe replied as she tried to think of a time.

“Don’t forget that we dragons tend to follow the principle that strength matters most,” Pevaphio began to explain. “Who should we respect? Only the strong.

What sort of mate do we desire? The strongest.

We have no interest in politics, and the only reason I am a senator is that the other council members forced it upon me, as it is required of us as the rulers of the Draco Galaxy to have one.”

“They forced it upon you?” Stacey asked.

“Elders?” Emma asked.

“The Dragon race does not have one specific ruler who sits above all others, like with our friends from the Phoenix race; instead, we have the Aspects Council,” Pevaphio explained.

As I’m sure you're aware, the Dragon race has six aspects, but since a white dragon is very rarely born, the council is made up of a senior member of the remaining five aspects.

On the rare occasions that we meet, decisions that are not unanimously supported are generally decided by majority vote, and this includes which of the council members will serve as our senator.

Unfortunately, the other council members all teamed up and voted me in as Universal Senator.”

“Why did they do that?” Eri asked.

“Because I’m the youngest member of the Aspects Council and those old farts used the excuse that it would be beneficial for me and help me grow,” Pevaphio complained.

“Then why doesn’t the council give the position to one of their subordinates or younger members?" Stacey asked.

“We might have no interest in politics, but that doesn’t mean we want other races to take advantage of that fact,” Pevaphio explained. “As such, when the Universal Senate was formed, the Aspects Council at the time determined that one of them must serve as senator.”

If you come across this story on Amazon, it's taken without permission from the author. Report it.

“You mean the Dragon race was one of the Universal Senate's founding members?” Adam asked.

“Correct, don’t forget what I said about searching for the strongest mate possible and back then, Kavita was one of the strongest people in the universe. As her mate, Ratod helped form the Universal Senate,” Pevaphio answered.

“I see,” Adam replied before returning to the previous topic by asking. “When do you plan to head to the supreme speaker selection, and would you like to travel with us?”

“Kind of you to offer, but no. I will meet you all there two days before the selection commences,” Pevaphio replied.

“I guess that means we will have plenty of time to relax on Aqua Primus,” Lorelie said with a smile.

“Aren't they expecting you to put on a show?” Stacey asked.

“Yes, but thankfully it’s only one show this time, and then I can relax with everyone else,” Lorelie answered.

“Well, I guess that’s everything we have to discuss today,” Pevaphio stated with a smile.

“That’s fine, we should be arriving back at Fenix Nest soon,” Adam replied.

“Then I will leave you to it and see you in a little over a week,” Pevaphio said before waving goodbye as the call ended.

As soon as the call ended, Spector suddenly announced, “The viewer known as Gunlovergirl is trying to contact you through your stream chat.”

Adam raised an eyebrow in surprise before saying, “I wonder what that’s about.”

“Probably another attempt at getting that woman or girl group into your chat,” Stacey stated.

“I doubt it; she doesn’t catch me as the type that would keep badgering someone about something after they’ve already refused,” Emma replied.

“Badgering?” Stacey asked in confusion.

“Oh, sorry,” Emma replied. “It’s another way of saying someone is repeatedly pestering you until you give in to their request.”

“Oh, ok,” Stacey replied.

As the two had been talking, Adam had used his uniband to put his stream chat up on a large holographic screen.

[Gunlovergirl (Earth): @S.P.E.C.T.O.R Streamer, are you there? I have something I need to discuss with you.]

[Forever1stCommenter (Earth): First.]

[Gunlovergirl (Earth): Even in this case, you're first.]

[Forever1stCommenter (Earth): I will forever be first in everything I do.]

[Puntanghunter69Ver2 (International Space Station): Is that why you're single, because you always cum before the girl?]

[1000yearsofdeath (Earth): Ohh, good one. Kekeke.]

[Gunlovergirl (Earth): Like you can insult anyone for being single, perverted astronaut.]

[Puntanghunter69Ver2 (International Space Station): Then why are you even in here messaging the streamer when he isn’t even live?]

[Gunlovergirl (Earth): Like, you can talk; don’t you have some experiments to do up in the International Space Station, or are you just the janitor?]

[Puntanghunter69Ver2 (International Space Station): Whatever, it’s not like he hangs out in his own chat; he probably doesn’t even know you want to speak to him.]

[1000yearsofdeath (Earth): The chaos is glorious; give me more. Kekeke.]

[S.P.E.C.T.O.R (Spector): I’m here, Gunlovergirl. You needed something?]

[Gunlovergirl (Earth): What was that about him not turning up? Huh? Huh?]

[Puntanghunter69Ver2 (International Space Station): Oh! He actually appeared.]

[S.P.E.C.T.O.R (Spector): Err, did I miss something?]

[Gunlovergirl (Earth): No, no, don’t worry about it.]

[1000yearsofdeath (Earth): Just a lovers' tiff. Kekeke.]

[Gunlovergirl (Earth): Fuck you, 1000yearsofdeath. Are you looking to die?]

“Wow, she really doesn’t like that guy, huh?” Tephe remarked as she read the chat.

“Can’t really blame him; he is a crazy pervert after all,” Stacey replied.

“Why haven’t you banned him yet?” Aphrodite asked.

“That’s rich coming from you,” Rowena said with a smirk. “The biggest pervert in the universe wants another chatter banned for being a pervert.”

“Adam already banned him once in the past, but it seems he found a way around the ban,” Emma explained.

“What?” Aphrodite asked in surprise. “How’d he manage that?”

“Something g about him making a new account,” Adam replied. “Honestly, even I was surprised that Spector allowed it.”

“Rightttt,” Aphrodite replied before asking, “But why haven’t you banned him again?”

Adam shrugged before saying, “What would be the point if they can just get back in? Honestly, the fact that Spector let them back into my chat has to mean something.”

“What could having that pervert in that chat possibly mean?” Stacey asked.

“Well, Spector is very particular about who it allows in the chat,” Lorelie said thoughtfully.

“She’s asking for you in the chat, Adam,” Eri pointed out while indicating towards the holographic screen.

[Gunlovergirl (Earth): Streamer, are you still there?]

[S.P.E.C.T.O.R (Spector): I am. What’s up?]

[Gunlovergirl (Earth): I was asked to contact you on behalf of Kate Stevens. She apparently wants to discuss something with you.]

“Kate Stevens?” Emma asked in surprise.

“You know her?” Adam asked.

“She’s the owner of Galaxy Studios, the entertainment company Emily Daniels is signed with,” Emma replied.

“See, I told you,” Stacey said triumphantly.

“What?” Emma replied.

“I told you this was all to get that Emily Daniels access to the stream,” Stacey explained. “I mean, why else would she be contacting you?”

“Maybe she wants to sign Adam to her entertainment company,” Lorelie said with a chuckle.

“While that’s a thing on Earth, I don’t see that being what she wants to talk about,” Emma replied. “She can’t exactly make money from Adam after all.”

[S.P.E.C.T.O.R (Spector): What does she wish to discuss with me? If this is about giving Emily Daniels access to my stream, she can forget about it.]
