“Thank you for this, Adam,” Emma said as she and Adam headed for the med bay.

“You don’t need to thank me. If I’m being perfectly honest, I choose to accompany you for selfish reasons,” Adam replied.

“Selfish reasons?” Emma asked in confusion.

“I needed to warn you about something regarding the neural implant you're about to receive," Adam answered.

“So it is dangerous,” Emma remarked in concern.

Adam shook his head before saying, “Not at all; the issue is that the implant you're about to receive contains a secret that only Rowena knows.”

“A secret only Rowena knows?” Emma asked in surprise. “What kind of secret? And why don’t the others know?”

“Rowena insisted that I tell no one about this, but since you're going to be installed with the same implant I originally received, it’s something you need to know,” Adam answered.

“Ok,” Emma replied in a tone that was laced with both apprehension and curiosity.

“While the neural implant itself is not dangerous, your life could be put in danger if people learn of its capability; that’s why you need to keep it a secret,” Adam explained. “I’m not telling you this to frighten you, but to make sure you understand the risk involved.”

Emma didn’t respond except to nod in understanding.

“The implant you’ll receive does basically everything that’s already been described to you, such as allowing for improved learning efficiency,” Adam continued. “However, it also goes a step further than that.

Not only is it faster and more efficient than the implants the others have, it is more advanced, which is also why some of them have been considering upgrading their own implants with those that Spector can offer.

What they don’t know, however, is that the implant you're about to receive has the capability of downloading knowledge directly into your brain.”

“Pardon?” Emma asked in confusion.

Adam thought for a moment before asking, “Have you ever seen that sci-fi film from the late nineties about being trapped in a virtual world? The one with the red and blue pills and bullet time?”

Emma nodded before her eyes suddenly widened with realisation.

“Looks like you understand,” Adam said with a smirk. “Just like how the knowledge of how to fly a helicopter was downloaded into the female love interest's brain, the same will be possible for you.”

“What, being the female love interest or having knowledge downloaded into my brain?” Emma asked with a wink.

“Definitely the latter; the former we’ll have to discuss,” Adam replied.

“Discuss?” Emma repeated in surprise. “I was expecting to be shot down.”

“Why? Adam asked. “You're a beautiful woman, and the subject of you joining the harem has already come up a couple of times.”

Emma blushed at the compliment before saying, “What did the others say?”

Instead of answering, Adam smirked and teasingly said, “Well, well, well, Miss Emma Hopkins blushing, who’d have thought?”

“Oh, shut up,” Emma replied as she smacked his arm. “Any woman would smile and blush at a compliment from the person they like.”

“Like me, do ya?”Adam asked as he kept smirking at her.

“Shut up and answer the question,” Emma pouted.

Adam laughed before saying, “Both Lorelie and Rowena are keen on you joining since you're going to be managing our business empire in the future. I think Rowena’s even keen to enlist your help in recruiting Erkath.”

“Erkath, hmm?” Emma replied thoughtfully. “I only know a little about her situation with her ex, but she definitely deserves better than a cheating bastard.”

“Can’t argue with you there,” Adam replied as they entered the med bay.

“I notice you didn’t mention Stacey,” Emma stated nervously.

“Stacey’s, Stacey. She’ll pout about a new member but quickly get over it,” Adam replied before adding with a wink, “Especially if you have fun with her.”

“Is that ok? I mean, aren’t she and Lorelie a thing?” Emma asked. “Other than being with you, I mean?”

“No, they just have fun with each other when I’m with Rowena, Adam replied. “I expect Lorelie and Rowena to have fun together in the future, but Stacey and Rowena aren’t interested for obvious reasons.”

“Understandable,” Emma replied before adding with a smirk. “You do seem to have a thing for older women, though.”

“To your benefit,” Adam replied.

“Hey, I’m not complaining,” Emma replied before teasing, “Though since you're into grandmothers, what about Lady Flemming, since you're not related by blood?”

“Not a chance,” Adam immediately replied.

“Ok, ok. But aren’t you even the slightest bit interested in knowing your origins?” Emma asked. “I mean, Spector seems to know.”

“She does?” Adam asked in surprise. “Spector?”

“I am indeed aware of some of your origins, but since you never seemed interested in knowing before, I didn’t mention it,” Spector replied.

“That’s fine, but what do you mean by some?” Adam asked.

“Genetic analysis and cross-referencing using available data on Earth's global communications network as well as birth records indicate that you are indeed the son of Grace Williams, albeit with inconsistencies,” Spector replied.

“The Williams family?” Emma said in surprise. “Not just the Flemmings, but the Williams as well?”

Adam wasn’t interested in that and instead asked, “Inconsistencies?”

“I would need an actual sample of Grace Williams DNA to cross-reference; however, certain genetic markers do not appear to line up as they should,” Spector replied.

“But you're certain that she’s Adam’s biological mother?” Emma asked.

“Affirmative,” Spector replied.

“Then that must mean that your father is from the Flemming family,” Emma stated before asking Spector, “But why didn’t you mention him?”

“Because I’m sixty-seven percent certain that Adam’s father is not of the Flemming’s family,” Spector answered.

“What!” Emma said in surprise. “But Lady Flemming said she was his grandmother?”

“That is an understandable assumption to arrive at given the available data, as well as the timeline,” Spector replied. “However, Earth’s understanding of genetics is still lacking compared to the rest of the universe, and so it’s no wonder they failed to detect the Inconsistencies.”

“Are these the same Inconsistencies you mentioned before?” Adam asked.

“Affirmative. Spector replied. “The same Inconsistencies from before are also making me unable to determine who your father is.”

The med bay was quiet for a few moments until Emma looked at Adam and asked, “What do you think?”

“While I’m still not interested in knowing or getting to know my parents after they abandoned me, I am curious about the Inconsistencies Spector mentioned. It could answer an ongoing question,” Adam replied.

“Ongoing question?” Emma repeated.

“Sorry, but that’s something that only members of the harem can learn,” Adam replied.

“Guess I should up my game then,” Emma replied while flashing a flirtatious wink.

“It’s not a matter of you upping your game; it’s a matter of you making a decision,” Adam replied.

“What decision?” Emma asked in confusion.

“You need to consider and carefully decide whether you can share me with the others,” Adam explained. “We’re both from Earth, where harems or group relationships are frowned upon and extremely uncommon. I wouldn’t be surprised if you, as a highly successful woman, were unable to break from the idea of a monogamous relationship with me.”

“I see,” Emma replied thoughtfully.

Adam smiled and said, “Take your time and consider this; there is no rush.”

“Alright,” Emma replied before adding with a giggle. “Besides, I think Tephe would go berserk if I cut in line.”

“Oh, she definitely would,” Adam replied with a smile before turning towards one of the med beds. “Let's get you ready.”
