Chapter 495: Chapter 495: Thor the Thunderer (1)

[Third Person Pov]

As the members of the team filtered into the meeting room one by one, they found Peter already seated at the head of the long hi-tech table. His chair was turned completely away from the entrance, presenting only the high back of the seat. The room itself was dimly lit, the only significant illumination coming from the soft ambient strips along the walls and the waiting projection field hovering above the table’s surface.

Betty and Bruce entered together and exchanged a quick glance of mutual confusion before taking the seats nearest each other. The rest of the team settled in with varying degrees of curiosity.

Peter waited until the last person had sat down. Then, with deliberate theatrical flair, he slowly spun the chair around. Aria was perched neatly on his lap, looking entirely unbothered by the arrangement. Peter rested one hand lightly on her head and delivered the line with exaggerated gravitas.

"I’ve been expecting you."

A collective deadpan stare answered him. No one laughed. Some only smiled.

Harry broke the silence first, voice dry. "How long have you been waiting to do that?"

"Since the day I finished building this chair," Peter answered without a trace of shame. Aria floated up from his lap with a quiet sigh and drifted across the table to her usual seat at the far end, settling in with her legs crossed.

Betty leaned back in her chair, arms loosely folded. "So what’s important enough that you had to call us all in here under a Code Yellow?"

Felicia’s expression was already edged with dissatisfaction. "Last time you called one of these, it was just to keep an eye on Kraven. We all remember how that turned out."

Peter rested both hands on the table and leaned forward slightly. The playful tone faded from his voice. "Yeah, well... this one’s bigger than Kraven. By a godly proportion."

That got their attention.

He tapped the surface of the table. A large holographic projection bloomed upward, filling the center of the room with the shattered remains of what had once been their primary orbital satellite. Twisted metal panels, scorched circuitry, and drifting fragments rotated slowly in the air.

"What you’re looking at," Peter said, "is the current state of the satellite that used to belong to us."

A ripple of disbelief moved through the room.

Bruce stared at the wreckage harder than anyone else. He had designed most of the critical systems himself, so seeing it a wreck pained him. "What the hell happened to it?"

Peter rewound the footage. The debris collapsed backward into a single bright streak of light. A moment later the recording played forward again—this time in slower detail. A brilliant rainbow arc of energy cut across the blackness of space. Inside that prismatic corridor, a familiar rectangular silhouette became visible an instant before impact.

Mjolnir.

Harry’s eyes widened. "Whoa. Cool. So Thor’s in town?"

Betty’s expression shifted from confusion to outright skepticism as their back and forth continued and they kept mentioning the God of Thunder. "Gods are real?"

Bruce turned toward her with a quiet, almost apologetic look. "Right... you weren’t with us when we met that other version of him during the Ultron incident. I’ll fill you in later."

Gwen shook her head slowly, a faint grimace on her face. "Please tell me this one isn’t going to be another ’dude-bro’ like the last Thor we met. It’s still hard to reconcile that guy with the idea of an actual god."

Aria spoke up from her seat, voice calm and precise. "I doubt he’ll be identical. The Thor we encountered before was only one variant from the wider multiverse. This one is native to our universe. He could be better... or significantly worse. We have no way of knowing yet."

MJ leaned forward, eyes fixed on the holographic map that Aria had begun projecting. "Do you know where the hammer actually landed?"

Aria nodded. A detailed topographical map of the southwestern United States expanded across the table. A single glowing marker pulsed in the desert.

"Based on trajectory calculations and residual readings from the other satellites in orbit, it came down somewhere in New Mexico."

Lizzy frowned, glancing between the map and the earlier footage. "And Thor himself? So far we’ve only seen the hammer. Where’s the man—or the god?"

Aria’s expression grew more focused. She sat up straighter, legs still crossed, and closed her eyes for a brief moment.

"That’s a good question," she murmured. "Give me a few seconds..."

When her eyes opened again, they glowed with the soft white light of direct data-stream access. In the space of a single breath she had already plunged into the global network—thousands of tabs, satellite mirrors, social media posts, emergency service logs, and unclassified sensor data flooding through her awareness at once.

Aria slowly lowered herself back into her seat, one hand coming up to scratch awkwardly at her cheek. The soft glow in her eyes faded as she disconnected from the data stream. For a moment she simply sat there, clearly searching for the least ridiculous way to deliver the information.

"...How do I even explain this," she muttered. "Thor is currently at a hospital. Because he was run over."

Absolute silence followed.

The entire team stared at her. No one spoke. Peter dragged a hand down his face and rubbed his eyes with the heels of his palm. Betty tilted her head, genuine confusion written across her features.

"Are we sure he’s really a god?"

Peter lowered his hands and leaned forward, voice thoughtful. "Hold on. The fact that he and the hammer landed in completely different locations could mean he was cast out—stripped of his power, or at least separated from it. There is much we don’t know for certain."

Harry swung his legs up onto the edge of the table and crossed them at the ankles. "We won’t know anything for sure until we actually investigate. Speculating in a circle isn’t going to help us."

Peter nodded and glanced around the table, already mapping out the next steps. "I’m thinking we split into two teams. SHIELD almost certainly picked up on something this public. One group will link up with them to secure the hammer. The other will go straight to Thor and figure out what his presence here actually means."

Harry’s hand shot up immediately. "Dibs on the hammer!"

Peter grinned. "And I call dibs on Thor."

"Thor," Felicia, MJ, and Aria said in near-perfect unison.

"Hammer!" Gwen, Lizzy, and Bruce answered just as quickly.

Every head turned toward Bruce. Even Betty looked surprised.

"Are you sure?" she asked. "I thought you still weren’t exactly fond of anything government-related after... everything."

Bruce shrugged, already half-lost in scientific curiosity. "I still don’t trust them. But the potential cosmic radiation signature on that hammer is something I need to measure myself. If it’s dangerous, we need to know before anyone gets close."

Betty raised a hand a little hesitantly. "Can I sit this one out? Gods and cosmic hammers really aren’t my area of interest."

"Of course," Peter said without hesitation. "These missions are optional. The meeting was mostly just to get everyone up to speed. Honestly, I’d appreciate it if someone stayed behind to keep an eye on the city while the rest of us are gone."

Betty nodded. "I can hold down the fort."

Peter clapped his hands together once. "Then it’s settled. Aria, MJ, Felicia, and I will handle Thor. Harry, Lizzy, Gwen, and Bruce will secure the hammer with SHIELD."

No one objected. Chairs scraped back. The team dispersed to gear up.

---

A short while later, a circular portal of shimmering orange light tore open in the corner of a hospital parking lot under the late afternoon sun. Peter stepped through first, followed closely by Aria, MJ, and Felicia. The portal sealed shut behind them with a soft crackle.

They had barely oriented themselves when movement caught their attention near a row of parked cars.

A tall, broad-shouldered man with long blond hair—unmistakably Thor, even without the armor—was walking behind a dark sedan. The reverse lights flared. The car lurched backward.

There was a heavy, sickening *thud*.

Thor was launched several feet through the air and crashed hard onto the asphalt, skidding to a stop on his back.

"Ooooh—" the entire group winced in perfect unison and turned their faces away for a second.

A woman with bright blond hair scrambled out of the driver’s seat, looking horrified. "Oh my God, I’m so sorry! I swear I don’t mean to keep doing that!" Jane Foster dropped to her knees beside the fallen Asgardian, hands hovering as if she didn’t know whether to touch him or not.

The passenger doors opened. Erik Selvig and Darcy Lewis climbed out, both already looking exasperated.

Darcy’s eyes swept the parking lot—and locked onto the four newcomers. Her expression went flat.

"Uh... Jane."

"What?" Jane asked, still crouched over Thor.

Darcy pointed with her chin. "I think we’re in trouble."

Jane finally looked up. Her eyes went wide the moment she registered Spider-Man standing a short distance away, flanked by three other costumed figures. Aria gave a small, cheerful wave.

Peter straightened to his full height, voice dropping into a deliberately stern, authoritative tone.

"You’re under arrest. Hands where I can see them."

Jane, Erik, and Darcy all shot their hands into the air without thinking.

Peter’s mouth twitched. He couldn’t help himself.

"Now wave them in the air like you just don’t care," he sang, barely containing a snicker.

Behind him, MJ, Felicia, and Aria all struggled—and mostly failed—to keep their laughter silent. Jane and her colleagues simply stared, caught somewhere between confusion and the dawning realization that their day was about to get significantly stranger.
