SS Awakening: My Monster Merging System!
Chapter 278: Before the Trial, A Long Awaited Rest[2]Only after more than half of the food on the table had disappeared did Helen suddenly ask, "You’re participating in this year’s Heaven Reaching Trial Tower too?"
Zich glanced at her. "How did you know?"
"Someone from the Voss family personally entered the Association headquarters. There was no way to hide it from everyone." Helen continued. "Besides, registration for the remaining thirty three publicly contested slots opens tomorrow. Every eligible young player in the First Layer is talking about it right now."
"I’m planning to compete for one too."
Jayden immediately spoke.
"At your current level, your chances of getting a slot are very high," Zich said and then smiled provocatively. "Do you want to lose a second time?"
Jayden didn’t find it offensive. Instead, a competitive light appeared in his eyes. "You wish."
He quickly added, "Even if I can’t win, I still want to see just how large the gap is between me and the true geniuses of the First Layer."
Zich did not try to persuade him any further.
For a player, accurately understanding their own strength was not a bad thing. As long as Jayden did not make a reckless choice beyond his capabilities, participating in the competition could actually provide him with valuable experience.
Mira gently rubbed Slimy’s soft body.
"Then how many floors are you planning to climb?"
"Thirty," Zich answered without the slightest hesitation.
The private room immediately fell silent.
Several seconds later, Mira blinked.
"I thought you were going to say you’d just see how far you could get."
"If I were only going in to try, there would be no point in entering."
More importantly, the reward on the thirtieth floor was an Ancient Beast King Soul Stone.
It was an extremely valuable item worth millions of gold coins!!
Helen lifted the cup before her, her gaze calmly resting on Zich.
"Then don’t get eliminated before you reach the thirtieth floor because I won’t."
"You too."
Their cups lightly touched above the table.
...
For the next three days, Zich did not perform any more high intensity training.
He first visited the largest player trading district in Central City and, following the Association’s publicly released Trial Tower entry checklist, stocked up on recovery potions, mental energy potions, and enough compressed food to last ten days.
Because the Heaven Reaching Trial Tower was about to open, the prices of virtually all recovery items had risen by nearly thirty percent. Zich stood silently before the counter for quite some time before ultimately purchasing all the potions despite their obviously inflated prices.
Gold coins could always be earned again.
If he were sent back to the First Shelter simply because he had failed to prepare one extra potion, that would be the real loss.
Besides items intended for players, he also purchased a batch of high energy summoned beast food and several pieces of black crystal ore capable of slowly nourishing his summons.
The moment the former entered the summoning space, Slimy and the Silverback Ape Grunt immediately set their sights on it.
As for the latter, Tiamant unceremoniously claimed all of it. Even when the Blood Leech attempted to approach, it was driven back by the soul flames igniting within Tiamant’s eye sockets.
Zich did not interfere with the competition between them.
Summoned beasts possessed their own consciousness and habits. Allowing a certain degree of competition over resources could actually maintain their desire for growth.
As long as they did not truly attack one another, he would not restrict them excessively.
For the remainder of his time, Zich stayed inside the room prepared by the Association and reorganized the results of his past thirty days of training.
Five skeleton soldiers appeared simultaneously inside the training room.
Two were responsible for sorting potions, one organized equipment, another checked the items he would carry with him, while the final skeleton stood beside the door on guard duty.
Throughout the entire process, Zich did not issue a single verbal command.
He did not even deliberately focus his mental attention on them.
But the five skeleton soldiers continued carrying out their individual tasks in an orderly manner.
It was only when one skeleton attempted to stuff Slimy, who was lying on top of the backpack, into the bag along with everything else that Zich finally raised a finger and adjusted the command.
Slimy slid from the edge of the backpack and angrily bumped into the skeleton soldier’s leg bone.
The skeleton lowered its head and looked at Slimy for a moment before continuing to organize the items.
Leaning back in his chair, a faint smile appeared in Zich’s eyes.
A month ago, he absolutely could not have done this.
Razeil’s training had been almost cruel, but it had genuinely changed the way Zich controlled his summoned beasts. In the past, Zich had been accustomed to personally handling every detail during battle.
Now, however, he could leave different summoned beasts with basic commands and allow them to act independently, intervening only during the most dangerous moments.
This meant that the more summoned beasts he possessed, the greater the combat power he would be capable of displaying.
Three days quickly passed.
On the morning of the fourth day, before Zich had even opened his eyes, the silver token beside his bed lit up on its own.
Dark golden patterns slowly spread across the token’s surface before eventually converging into a steadily decreasing timer.
[Heaven Reaching Trial Tower Opening Countdown: 02:59:58.]
At the same time, a deep and distant bell echoed across the skies of the First Layer.
Dong!
As the first bell rang out, countless players who had been waiting simultaneously opened their eyes.
Dong!
When the second bell sounded, every large teleportation formation leading toward the central region of the First Layer began operating.
Dong!
By the time the third bell echoed, the silhouette of a massive black tower piercing through the clouds had already appeared on the distant horizon.
