Within the abandoned town shrouded in black mist, twelve soldiers lay scattered across the street. Their armor had already been severely damaged, and several of them had even lost the ability to move. Forget crossing the eight kilometer long town, even standing up on their own would be extremely difficult.

Zich briefly examined their injuries before looking toward the decaying houses on both sides of the road.

The Heaven Reaching Tower required him to escort these soldiers to the teleportation portal, but it had never stated that they had to walk there on their own legs.

"Slimy."

Upon hearing the command, Slimy immediately jumped down from Zich’s shoulder. Its translucent body rapidly expanded, and white silk threads shot out from within it, binding together two thick wooden doors that the Silverback Ape Grunt had torn from nearby buildings.

Before long, two simple stretchers capable of carrying six people each had been created.

The skeletons placed the twelve soldiers onto the stretchers. Slimy continued releasing threads, firmly securing their bodies while forming a soft protective structure around them to prevent the upcoming high speed movement from worsening their injuries.

Iron took responsibility for clearing the path, while the Silverback Ape Grunt guarded the rear of the formation.

The skeletons carried the stretchers on either side of Zich, and Slimy rested at the center of one stretcher, ready to use its Silk Barrier to block any incoming attacks.

As for the Blood Leech, it entered the black mist ahead of the group, constantly maintaining a distance of approximately ninety meters from Zich.

Although his Summon Perception was restricted to one hundred meters, it had not disappeared completely.

As long as all his summoned creatures remained within his perception range, this restriction could not truly disrupt his command.

The group had advanced less than three hundred meters when the black mist ahead suddenly began churning violently.

FWOOSH! FWOOSH!

More than a dozen black hounds with rotting bodies charged out from both sides of the street. They did not make a single sound, and even their limbs produced no footsteps when they struck the ground. It was only when they came within ten meters of Iron that the death aura surrounding their bodies erupted completely.

Faced with the intense aura, Iron fearlessly charged forward, his enormous bone sword slashing diagonally upward and sending the three Corpse Hounds at the front flying. Two skeletons lowered one side of the stretchers and simultaneously raised their bone spears, accurately piercing the eye sockets of two more hounds.

At the same time, a gray white shadow that was almost invisible to the naked eye passed through a wall and lunged directly toward the soldiers lying on the stretchers.

It did not possess a physical body.

Naturally, the weapons of Iron and the skeletons could not stop it.

However, just as it approached, a cluster of dark flames flew from Zich’s fingertip and accurately struck its chest.

[Spirit Flame!]

The gray white shadow twisted violently and released a piercing scream that only souls could hear before rapidly disintegrating within the flames.

[You have killed a Black Mist Wraith.]

[Ding! You have absorbed the Spirit Orb of the Black Mist Wraith.]

Zich did not slow down because of these monsters. The faster he completed the trial, the higher the rating he could get.

As the group continued deeper into the town, the number of monsters appearing around them increased. Corpse Hounds began charging out of the black mist in packs, while Black Mist Wraiths concealed themselves inside the houses, constantly searching for weaknesses in the defenses surrounding the stretchers.

However, even when the group reached the sixth kilometer, not a single one of the twelve soldiers had died.

At that moment, the Blood Leech at the front suddenly transmitted a warning of danger.

Zich quickly stopped in his tracks.

The next second, the entire street ahead collapsed with a deafening rumble. Large numbers of black vines burst from underground, completely blocking the road that led directly to the teleportation portal. At the same time, dense running sounds came from within the black mist behind them. At least a hundred Corpse Hounds were rapidly approaching.

Taking another route would add at least three kilometers to the journey.

If they remained here to fight, the twelve injured soldiers would become their greatest burden.

Zich glanced at the black vines blocking the road ahead, and several command nodes within his consciousness changed simultaneously.

"Iron, break through from the front."

"Silverback Ape Grunt, carry everyone."

Iron dragged his enormous bone sword toward the vines, while the Silverback Ape Grunt moved between the two stretchers. It extended both arms and lifted the stretchers along with the five nearby skeletons.

The moment the horde behind them emerged from the black mist, Iron’s enormous sword descended.

Boom!

A large section of the black vines was forcibly torn apart, revealing a narrow opening barely wide enough for two people to pass through.

The Silverback Ape Grunt did not hesitate. Carrying all twelve soldiers, it charged into the opening.

Before Zich himself could enter, several Corpse Hounds had already caught up from behind. One of them opened its mouth filled with rotting flesh and bit directly toward his neck.

However, even before the attack could make contact, his body abruptly disappeared.

[Shadow Blink!]

When he reappeared, he had already crossed the final wall of black vines. At the same moment, Iron withdrew his enormous sword, causing a mass of severed vines to fall from above and completely block the horde behind them.

Several minutes later, the golden teleportation portal finally appeared before them.

The Silverback Ape Grunt placed the two stretchers in front of the portal. The five skeletons lifted the twelve soldiers once again and carried them inside one after another.

When the final soldier disappeared into the golden light, a notification immediately appeared before Zich.
