SS Awakening: My Monster Merging System!

Chapter 285: Slimy’s Detection Thread

Seeing the clear time of four minutes and eleven seconds, the Players Association members responsible for recording the trial data subconsciously checked it several times.

"What was the previous fastest record for the second floor?"

"Seven minutes and forty eight seconds."

The person beside him quickly gave the answer, but the disbelief on his face was no less than the other man’s.

"The person who set that record possessed a spatial movement ability and could teleport directly between the four cores. Even then, it still took him almost eight minutes."

"Four minutes and eleven seconds. How exactly did he do it?"

An experienced old summoner stared at the black stone monument for a long time before finally arriving at the most likely answer.

"He didn’t destroy those cores in order."

Everyone around him turned to look at him at the same time.

The old summoner slowly explained, "If I’m not mistaken, he must have sent his summons in four different directions. After all of them reached their targets, he destroyed the four cores simultaneously. Only by doing that could he completely avoid the mechanism that continuously strengthened the remaining cores."

"Coordinating four battlefields at the same time?"

Someone instinctively objected, "The sandstorm on the second floor severely interferes with vision. Forget precisely controlling the timing of their attacks. An ordinary summoner would even have difficulty determining the exact condition of each summon."

"That’s why his evaluation is SSS."

The old summoner stared at the young name at the very top of the monument, his expression gradually becoming solemn.

"What’s truly terrifying is no longer just how powerful his summons are. It’s that even when they’re on four completely different battlefields, those summons can still independently carry out his commands and complete a synchronized attack at the final moment."

Inside the Heaven Reaching Tower, the third teleportation gate had already appeared in front of Zich.

This time, he didn’t enter immediately.

Although the four way coordination just now hadn’t lasted very long, it had still consumed a considerable amount of his mental strength.

Zich first recalled all the summons scattered across the different areas back into the Graveyard Space. Then he took out a mental strength potion and a mana recovery potion and drank them one after another.

Only after the faint stabbing pain in his consciousness gradually disappeared and his depleted mana began recovering did he step into the third teleportation gate.

When the teleportation light from the third floor faded, Zich discovered that he was standing in a dim forest.

Towering trees blocked out the sky, while grayish black mist drifted slowly between the trunks. There were no sounds of insects anywhere around him, only the faint sound of water dripping from the leaves. Even with Zich’s current eyesight, he could barely see more than a dozen meters ahead.

Soon, lines of trial information appeared before his eyes.

[Third Floor Trial: Shadow Hunting Ground.]

[Trial Objective: Survive the pursuit of thirty Shadow Hunters for thirty minutes, or kill them all.]

[Shadow Hunter Level: 20.]

[Special Environment: The challenger’s vision and spiritual perception will be suppressed. After entering a shadow, Shadow Hunters can conceal their presence.]

[Time Remaining: 00:30:00.]

The instant the final line of text appeared, the shadow behind Zich suddenly twisted.

There were no footsteps and not even the slightest trace of killing intent.

A pitch black dagger silently stabbed toward the back of his neck.

As though he had already sensed the danger, Zich moved half a step to the side just before the dagger touched his skin. The pitch black blade brushed past his shoulder, and at the same time, a summoning formation rapidly unfolded behind him.

The Silverback Ape Grunt had only just appeared when its thick arm swept outward with tremendous force.

Bang!

The Shadow Hunter raised both arms to block, yet the terrifying force still sent it flying backward. However, before the Silverback Ape Grunt could continue its pursuit, the Shadow Hunter’s body merged into the shadow cast by the trees once again and completely disappeared.

Zich didn’t order the Silverback Ape Grunt to pursue it. Instead, he raised his head and surveyed the surrounding forest.

Both his vision and perception had been severely suppressed, while the enemies could even conceal their presence.

For the vast majority of challengers, the most appropriate way to clear this floor would naturally be to find an easily defensible location and hold out until the thirty minutes ended.

But since the trial rules provided a second method of clearing the floor, it meant that these Shadow Hunters were not impossible to find.

"Thirty minutes is too long."

Zich raised his right hand, and summoning formations unfolded one after another around him. Slimy, Blood Leech, and four undead skeleton soldiers appeared in succession.

"If killing all of them also clears the trial, then it’s our turn to hunt."

The four undead skeleton soldiers immediately rushed into the forest in different directions. Slimy’s soft body rapidly extended outward as countless nearly transparent threads spread across the ground before climbing the surrounding trees.

One end of every thread remained connected to Slimy, while the other was wrapped around one of the four undead skeleton soldiers. As they continued deeper into the forest, more and more threads were carried into the distance, crossing between tree trunks, bushes, and low hanging branches.

In less than half a minute, an enormous detection network covering several hundred meters gradually took shape.

The Shadow Hunters could indeed conceal their figures and presence, but they could not make their physical bodies truly disappear.

As long as they moved through the forest, they would inevitably brush against leaves, step on the ground, or disturb the surrounding air. All of these subtle changes would ultimately be transmitted back through the threads Slimy had spread throughout the area.

Zich didn’t need to see them with his own eyes. He only needed to know where they were.

On the left side of the forest, an undead skeleton soldier had just passed between two large trees when a dagger silently emerged from the nearby shadows.
