Dreams were strange things.

Some lasted only a heartbeat before disappearing forever. Others felt so real that, even after waking up, you questioned whether you had truly left them behind.

Alpha had experienced both, but never this. This was completely different. His eyelashes fluttered as his eyes opened. The first thing he noticed wasn’t light.

It was warmth. This was not the suffocating warmth of summer, nor the biting warmth of a fireplace. It was... gentle like sunlight filtered through countless leaves.

Above him stretched a brilliant sapphire sky so impossibly clear that it looked freshly painted. Soft white clouds drifted lazily overhead, and there wasn’t a single trace of pollution or a single airplane- only endless blue.

"Where..." He sat up and immediately froze. "What is this place?"

He found himself lying in a meadow unlike anything he had ever seen.

The grass shimmered with faint emerald light, every blade perfectly healthy and unbelievably soft. Tiny droplets of crystal-clear dew rested upon their tips despite the warm sunlight, reflecting miniature rainbows whenever the breeze passed.

Flowers bloomed everywhere naturally, as though nature itself had spent centuries arranging every petal. Crimson lilies, golden roses, azure orchids, snow-white blossoms he had never seen before- some glowed faintly. Others released tiny floating particles that sparkled like stars before dissolving into the air.

The fragrance was indescribable. Sweet, fresh, and peaceful. Every breath he took seemed to wash away fatigue he hadn’t even realized he carried.

Alpha stood slowly, and his bare feet sank slightly into the grass. It felt comfortable, almost alive. The wind gently brushed against him, and not once did it feel cold. Somewhere nearby, water flowed.

He followed the sound instinctively.

Only a short distance away, a stream wound gracefully through the meadow. Its water was so clear that he could see every smooth stone resting at the bottom. Silver fish swam lazily against the current, occasionally leaping above the surface before disappearing beneath it again.

He knelt. His reflection stared back at him. He was still himself, not like he was expecting someone else’s face. White-blond hair, blue eyes, and the oversized white shirt he had fallen asleep wearing.

Nothing had changed. Except... everything else.

"Am I dreaming?"

The stream offered no answer. Birdsong echoed overhead. Alpha looked up, and all he could see were gigantic trees surrounding the meadow. No... "Gigantic" wasn’t enough.

Each one towered hundreds of feet into the sky. Their trunks were wider than houses. Golden vines wrapped around them naturally. Leaves shimmered in shades of emerald, silver, and pale gold.

One particularly enormous tree stood in the distance. Its trunk alone rivaled a mountain. Its countless branches spread across what looked like half the horizon. The sunlight itself seemed to originate from its leaves.

Alpha couldn’t explain why, but simply looking at it made his heart feel lighter, as though every worry, every frustration, and painful memory had become insignificant.

He subconsciously took a step toward it. The flowers gently bent away from his feet as if making a path for him. Butterflies with translucent wings fluttered around him. Tiny glowing creatures resembling miniature birds darted between branches.

Several deer wandered peacefully nearby. Their antlers resembled crystal. One even looked directly at Alpha, and instead of fleeing, it nodded.

"Did... Did a deer just acknowledge me?"

The deer resumed eating.

"I’ve officially gone insane."

He continued walking. Everywhere he looked, life flourished- fruit trees heavy with colorful fruit, fields of lavender stretching endlessly, hills covered in flowers, small waterfalls cascading into crystal lakes.

Not once did he hear insects buzzing annoyingly. Not once did he smell decay. There were no predators here. There was no fear or death.

Everything existed in harmony.

"Paradise."

The word escaped his lips without thinking. It fit perfectly. He didn’t know how long he wandered. Minutes, hours, time itself seemed meaningless here.

Eventually, he reached the foot of the colossal tree. Standing under it, he finally understood just how enormous it truly was. Looking upward, he couldn’t even see the highest branches.

The trunk stretched beyond the clouds themselves. Its bark shimmered faintly with intricate silver patterns, not carvings, but natural markings, almost like countless threads woven together.

"Threads?"

Alpha blinked. For just an instant, he thought he saw glowing lines stretching from the tree toward the entire world. They pulsed gently, almost like veins. He rubbed his eyes, and the vision disappeared.

"Weird."

A single leaf drifted downward and landed softly in his hand. He knew he was dreaming or perhaps having a vision, but it felt nothing like any of the above-mentioned. It was like he had appeared in another world.

The leaf wasn’t green. It was silver, warm, and surprisingly soft. The moment his fingers touched it, a pleasant feminine voice echoed across the meadow.

"So... another child has finally arrived."

Alpha’s body stiffened. He spun around immediately.

"Who’s there?"

He exclaimed, but only silence and the breeze answered. He looked left: nothing. Right: nothing. Behind him, still nothing. Yet the voice had been so clear, almost as if someone had whispered directly beside his ear.

"Hello?"

There was no answer.

"Great. Now I’m hearing voices." He scratched his head awkwardly. "I should’ve known following Silas would eventually lead to hallucinations."

The breeze suddenly picked up, causing millions of leaves to rustle simultaneously. It sounded almost like laughter.

Alpha slowly looked back toward the colossal tree. For the briefest moment, he thought he saw a silhouette. It was of a man resting against the trunk. The man was beautiful beyond words, with long flowing hair dancing in the wind.

But before he could focus, he vanished.

"Okay. I definitely saw someone."

His heartbeat quickened from curiosity. He took another cautious step.

"Excuse me? I’m not here to cause trouble... Probably."

One flower bloomed directly before him. Its petals unfolded, and at its center rested a single glowing seed.

"Am I supposed to..."

He reached toward it. The instant his fingertips touched the seed, the entire world exploded into white light.

"...!"

His eyes snapped open.

"HAAAH!"

He bolted upright on the floor. His heart pounded violently against his chest, while sweat covered his forehead.

Morning sunlight streamed through his bedroom window, and the now familiar ceiling greeted him.

"A dream?"

He breathed heavily. Everything had felt so real. The scent of flowers still lingered in his nose. The warmth of the grass remained beneath his feet. Even the silver leaf...

He unconsciously looked down at his hand, but it was empty.

"I’m losing my mind." He let out a long sigh before swinging his legs off the bed. "I’m never telling Silas. He’ll never let me hear the end of it."

Just as he stood, something soft slipped from under his hand and floated gently to the floor.

"Huh?" Alpha frowned and bent down. Lying there was a single silver leaf that shimmered faintly in the morning light.

And then he realized... He had never seen the face of the person, but he knew the person was beautiful... instinctively.
