SSS Awakening: Conquering Worlds with My Cupid System

Chapter 168: Congratulations... For Surviving this Idiot

Silas’s shout echoed through the Ashard Estate.

"YOU ARE SO FREAKING COOOOOOOOOOL! DAAAAAMN!!"

***

Silence. Complete silence. Even the crickets outside seemed to pause. Three seconds later...

BANG!

The bedroom door flew open so violently it almost came off its hinges.

Gromda was the first to arrive. The seven-foot Runic Jotun stood there in oversized sleepwear, gripping an enormous battle axe in one hand, her crimson runic tattoos glowing faintly. As for how or where she got the axe, no one was ready to ask about it now.

"Mate!" Her emerald eyes swept across the room at lightning speed. "Enemy?"

Behind her, Chloe rushed in.

Unlike Gromda, Chloe wasn’t carrying a weapon. She was carrying an ice spear, a six-foot-long spear made entirely from translucent blue ice.

The temperature inside the room immediately dropped several degrees. Alpha stumbled in after them, his hair sticking out in every direction and one slipper missing.

"What exploded?!"

Raymond appeared behind him, still wearing his pajamas beneath a hastily thrown-on butler’s coat.

The estate staff crowded behind him. One maid held a frying pan, another somehow had a broom. One gardener had brought a shovel.

Christoph, the chauffeur, had somehow acquired a wrench. Everyone stared into the room. They found Silas sitting on the bed, with Anna sitting on his lap. Anna’s face was completely buried against his chest. Her ears had turned bright red.

Silas, on the other hand, was grinning from ear to ear like the biggest idiot alive.

Alpha blinked.

"That’s it?"

Silas nodded enthusiastically.

"THAT’S IT!"

Gromda tilted her head.

"No enemy?"

Silas pointed dramatically at Anna.

"There IS!"

Everyone immediately tensed again. Anna froze.

Silas beamed.

"My girlfriend is secretly the coolest woman in New Liberty!"

The tension vanished instantly. Chloe looked at Anna, then at Silas, then back at Anna. She quietly dissolved her ice spear. Alpha rubbed his temples.

"I woke up... for this?"

Raymond slowly lowered the poker he had somehow acquired during the thirty seconds it took him to reach the room.

"Young Master."

"Yes?"

"Please don’t shout like that at midnight again."

"I was excited."

"We noticed."

One of the maids sighed dramatically.

"I thought we were under attack."

"I left bread in the oven."

"I brought a shovel... why did I bring a shovel?"

Nobody answered him. Anna hadn’t moved. She just remained buried against Silas’s chest.

"Anna?" Silas asked. No response.

"Anna?"

Still nothing. He gently peeked downward. She had covered her face with both hands.

"I’ve never been this embarrassed in my life."

Her muffled voice barely escaped. Silas blinked.

"Really?"

"Yes."

"Worse than speaking in front of thousands of people?"

"Much worse."

"Worse than surgery?"

"Much worse."

"Worse than..."

"Silas."

"Yes?"

"Stop talking."

"Okay."

Alpha couldn’t help it anymore. He burst out laughing.

"Pfffft— Hahahahahaha!"

Soon, Raymond chuckled. Then one maid, then another. Even Christoph covered his mouth. The room erupted into laughter.

Only Chloe remained silent. She quietly walked over and placed a hand on Anna’s shoulder.

"You are cool. Silas is an idiot."

Anna slowly peeked through her fingers.

"Really?"

Chloe nodded once.

"I always thought you were cool."

Anna smiled weakly.

"Thank you."

Gromda finally understood what had happened. Her face lit up.

"Mate happy?"

Silas gave her a thumbs-up. "Very."

Gromda immediately began clapping enthusiastically.

"Anna strongest healer!"

"Mate strongest fighter!"

"Family strongest!"

Silas joined in, smiling as if he’d just discovered something that would make the government pay him billions for just a letter. Maybe that was possible; who knows?

"Exactly!"

Anna slowly looked between the giant orc enthusiastically applauding and the pink-haired idiot clapping along with her. She covered her face again.

"I can’t believe these are my people."

"They are." Silas smiled. "And they’re not going anywhere."

Anna looked at him... really looked at him. There wasn’t the slightest hint of disappointment in his eyes. No suspicion, no resentment, only admiration. Pure admiration.

It was the same kind he showed when they first met. Come to think about it...

’I’m the older one, but I’m acting like a kid...’ She couldn’t help but think.

A soft smile slowly returned to her face.

"Thank you."

Silas tilted his head.

"For what?"

"For making the biggest secret of my life..." She glanced at everyone still gathered at the doorway. "...feel so... normal."

Silas laughed.

"Anna."

"Hm?"

"You being the Golden Healer changes absolutely nothing."

"It doesn’t?"

"No."

"You still have questions."

"I do."

"A lot?"

"A terrifying amount."

She giggled.

"I’ll answer every single one."

Silas smiled.

"Good."

Then he looked toward everyone standing at the doorway.

"So... Are you all done spying?"

Everyone immediately looked elsewhere.

"I wasn’t spying."

"I was defending."

"I brought a shovel... I still don’t know why."

Raymond adjusted his glasses, which had somehow appeared.

"Very well." He gave a dignified bow. "Since no one appears to be dying..."

He glanced meaningfully at Silas.

"We shall return to bed."

One by one, everyone quietly left. Alpha was the last. He stopped at the doorway, looked at Silas, then at Anna.

"Congratulations."

Anna blinked. "For what?"

Alpha smiled mischievously.

"For surviving this idiot."

Before Silas could throw a pillow at him, the door shut. Silas stared at it.

"I’ll remember that."

From outside came Alpha’s voice.

"I know!"

Silas sighed dramatically before looking back at Anna. She was still smiling, a genuine smile, one without fear, and without secrets. For the first time in a very long time... Anna Miles, the legendary Golden Healer, felt completely at home.

***

Gromda and Chloe stood behind the door with blank expressions. They stared at it for a long time before Chloe first commented in Orcish.

"Were we just kicked out?"

"Seems so..." Gromda answered.

"That idiot..."

"Mate is really an idiot. Very true!"

"I can hear you both!" Silas’s voice sounded from the room, causing their eyes to twitch.

"You kicked us out!" Chloe shouted for the first time since she came out of her enlightenment.

"No one locked the door!" Silas shouted from the room.
