SSS Awakening: Conquering Worlds with My Cupid System
Chapter 184: Tag TeamingElsewhere, another battlefield had formed.
The B-Rank Metalspine Ravager was moving through the trees like a living tank. Its metallic quills were shorter than those of the A-Ranks, but there were far more of them, and it abused them by firing them continuously.
FWOOM! FWOOM! FWOOM!
Alpha moved between the attacks, the pink aura flickering around his body. A spike flew toward his face, but he tilted his head, causing it to miss by centimeters.
Alicia appeared beside him, her massive buster sword swinging. The blade smashed into the monster’s side, and the B-Rank creature staggered.
Alpha immediately moved in, his dagger flashing across its leg, causing black blood to spray. The monster turned toward him, but Alicia stepped between them.
"Eyes on me."
The monster roared and charged, but Alicia planted her feet. Her eyes turned to slits as a few black hairs covered her face. Her muscles seemed to bulge slightly, while the ground beneath her cratered from the aura she was releasing.
The enormous creature crashed into her sword. The impact pushed her several meters backward, her boots carving trenches through the ground.
Alpha appeared beside her.
"Need help?"
Alicia grinned. "I’ve got it."
"You sure?"
"Yes."
The monster opened its mouth.
"Then I’m helping anyway."
Alicia laughed.
"Fine."
The creature fired a storm of spikes. They both moved. The two fought almost instinctively.
Alpha drew the monster’s attention while Alicia attacked from the side. The B-Rank swung its head toward him, but he ducked, while Alicia’s buster sword smashed into its ribs.
BOOM!
The creature staggered. Alpha jumped onto its back and plunged his dagger between its metallic quills. The monster screamed and shook violently, throwing him into the air.
Alicia caught him by the back of his armor.
"Got you."
"Thanks."
"You’re welcome." She threw him.
"That wasn’t necessary!"
"You were in the way."
"I was helping!"
"You’re welcome."
"You really are annoying."
"And you’re alive."
Alpha sighed. He suddenly noticed the monster turning toward Alicia.
"Behind you!"
Alicia spun as the creature’s massive tail came toward her. She raised her sword to block, but the impact sent her flying.
"Alicia!" Alpha’s expression changed. He sprinted. The B-Rank raised its head, preparing another barrage of spikes, but his body suddenly blurred, and happeared directly in front of Alicia with his daggers crossed.
The spikes struck his blades, causing his arms to tremble from the impact.
"Get up."
Alicia stared at him for a second. Then smiled.
"You really are useful."
"Don’t make me regret saving you."
She stood.
"Let’s finish this."
Alpha nodded.
The two charged simultaneously. Alicia swung from the left while Alpha attacked from the right. The monster attempted to defend, but it was too late. It was fighting with two A-Ranks after all. Even if they were really holding back, it was still not a match for them.
The B-Rank monster collapsed.
Alicia rested her enormous sword against her shoulder. Alpha breathed heavily.
"Two."
"One each."
"Still counts."
Alicia looked at him.
"Competitive?"
"Always."

On the other side of the battlefield, Neil was fighting alongside Damien and Leonard. Their opponent was the third A-Rank Metalspine Ravager. It was faster than the other two, much faster.
Neil raised both his gauntlets, but the monster disappeared.
"Where—"
BOOM!
It struck him in the chest. Neil flew backward. Damien immediately increased the gravity around the monster, slowing its movement.
"Got it!"
Damien raised one hand, causing gravity to compress around the creature. The ground beneath it collapsed as the monster was forced downward.
Leonard charged, his sword flashing. He cut across its flank, causing the monster to roar. Its quills rose.
Damien’s eyes widened.
"Move!"
They scattered as the metallic spikes tore through the area. Neil raised his gauntlets to shield himself. A translucent barrier formed around, blocking the rain of spikes.
"My turn." He grinned and charged. His gauntlet slammed into the monster’s jaw. The A-Rank staggered. Damien increased the gravity around its head, while Leonard moved beneath it, his sword piercing upward.
The monster screamed. Leonard pulled his blade free.
"Now!"
Damien’s gravity intensified, and the monster’s body was forced downward. Neil stepped forward, both gauntlets glowing.
"Full Impact."
BOOOOOOOOOOM!
His fists slammed into the monster’s chest, and the creature was launched backward. It crashed through several trees before finally stopping.
Damien lowered his hand.
"That was clean."
Leonard nodded.
"Again."
The monster rose.
"Of course."
The remaining Argent Heights and Valecrest students had begun handling the weaker monsters.
Emma fired both revolvers, and three C-Rank Metalspine Ravagers dropped. Rihanna stood several meters behind her. She drew her bow, the arrow glowing faintly.
"Three o’clock."
Emma glanced over.
"Got it."
Rihanna released the string, and the arrow pierced a monster’s eye. Emma fired at the same moment, and the second monster dropped.
Godfrey stood at the front, his heavy shield absorbing a barrage of spikes.
"Keep firing!"
Emma laughed. "You’re basically a wall!"
Godfrey grinned. "That’s the idea!"
He slammed his shield into a charging monster, while Neil’s gauntlet finished another one. Alicia’s buster sword cleaved through another, while Alpha darted between the trees, finishing wounded monsters with precise dagger strikes.
The battlefield was rapidly becoming a massacrem, but the three A-Ranks were the real spectacle.
Silas against one, Chloe against another, and Neil, Damien, and Leonard against the third. And the difference was becoming increasingly obvious.
Silas had barely fought, Chloe was controlling the battlefield, and the other teams were struggling simply to survive. That was the difference between an S-Rank and the other ranks.
Silas glanced across the battlefield.
He watched Chloe freeze another portion of her opponent’s body, and how Alpha and Alicia finish their B-Rank. Then his gaze settled on Damien.
Damien was fighting with everything he had. Gravity warped around his body, and every strike carried enough force to crush reinforced steel.
Silas smiled faintly.
"He’s gotten stronger."
Chloe heard him.
"Damien?"
"Yeah."
"You’re impressed?"
"A little."
A massive roar interrupted them.
Silas turned. The A-Rank Metalspine Ravager fighting Chloe had broken free of the ice. Its entire body shook, and chunks of frozen armor fell from its back. Its crimson eyes burned.
Chloe raised her spear as the creature charged. She didn’t retreat. Instead, she lowered her stance, and the temperature instantly dropped.
Frost covered the ground. Silas watched and smiled.
"She’s about to end it."
The monster leaped, but Chloe thrust her spear forward.
"Absolute Zero."
The entire battlefield went silent. For a fraction of a second, everything seemed to freeze. The monster, the air, the falling leaves, and even the poison dripping from its quills.
Then...
CRAAAAAAAAAAAAACK!
Ice exploded across the monster’s body. Its entire form became encased in a crystalline shell. Chloe twisted her spear, and the ice shattered. The A-Rank Metalspine Ravager collapsed.
Silas whistled. "Nice."
Chloe looked toward him.
"I heard that."
"I intended for you to."
She walked toward him.
"Your turn?"
Silas glanced at the A-Rank monster he had already defeated.
"Already finished."
"..."
Chloe stared at him. Silas smiled innocently.
"Want to race to the Observatory?"
Chloe’s eyes narrowed.
"You’re impossible."
"That’s not a no."
She sighed.
"Fine."
Silas turned toward the others.
"Everyone!" The remaining members of Valecrest looked over. "The path is clear."
Leonard looked toward the fallen monsters, then toward Silas.
"You’re leaving already?"
Silas nodded.
"We have an objective."
Leonard glanced at his own team. They had barely survived the encounter, but the monsters were dead, their cores remained, and the route ahead was open.
For the first time, Leonard realized something. Silas hadn’t needed to defeat the monsters. He had just needed to make sure his team could, and somehow, that was even more terrifying.
Silas stretched his arms.
"Let’s move."
He turned toward the deeper forest. The Central Blackridge Observatory was still waiting, and the tournament had only just begun.
