WHAAAAAAAAAM!

The impact was monstrous. The wing struck Echidna’s entire upper body. For a moment, everything stopped.

Then... BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!

Echidna disappeared. Her enormous body was launched across the Blackridge Expanse like a projectile. Trees exploded one after another, while the ground tore apart.

A mountain of dirt erupted, and the shockwave rolled across the forest. Silas remained standing, barely. His wing slowly faded, while he dropped to one knee. His breathing was almost nonexistent.

[Critical condition!]

[Mana: 1%.]

Silas stared at the notification.

"One..." He laughed weakly. "That’s... new."

Chloe immediately rushed toward him.

"Silas!"

She caught him before he fell.

"You idiot."

Silas leaned against her.

"You’re welcome."

"I didn’t thank you."

"I know."

She looked toward the enormous trail of destruction. Echidna was nowhere to be seen. For several seconds, there was silence. Then, a distant explosion echoed.

Chloe froze. Silas slowly raised his head. The ground trembled. Silas’s smile disappeared. From somewhere beyond the ruined forest came a deep, rumbling laugh.

"HAHAHAHAHAHA..."

Chloe’s grip tightened around him. Silas stared into the distance. A massive silhouette slowly rose beyond the trees: Echidna.

She was injured badly. Blood covered her body, several scales were missing, one arm hung strangely at her side, and yet she was standing. She was even smiling.

Silas’s eyes widened. Echidna lifted her head. Her golden eyes burned with something that hadn’t been there before: excitement.

"Now..." Her voice carried across the entire battlefield. "...that was interesting."

Silas swallowed. His mana was almost empty, his body was at its limit; his wing had disappeared, and the system had given him one final message.

[Mission Status: Ongoing.]

[Target has not been subdued.]

[Escape remains available.]

Silas stared at Echidna, then at Chloe, then back at the Mother of Monsters.

"We’re not done."

Echidna smiled.

"No." Her monstrous aura erupted once more. "We have only just begun."

The drone was still recording everything, even in its now-battered form. The battle was being streamed and projected all over New Liberty, and it was one hell of a battle. Even some S-Ranks in other academies couldn’t help but wonder if they could last that long against such a monster.

This was two S-Ranks against one S-Rank monster, and despite the grave injuries it had suffered, everyone could tell who was stronger among them.

While people watched the battle, military aircraft, hunter vehicles, among others, rushed towards the Blackridge Expanse. This had crossed the level of a tournament. This was a full-blown war.

An S-Rank monster was no joke.

Back to Silas’s side, he glared at Echidna with pink, glowing eyes. There was no hate in them. If anything, there was something else: realization. And that made him laugh.

"HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!"

Echidna and Chloe both looked at him in confusion. They even began to fear that he’d lost it.

"HAHAHAHAHAHA! How come I didn’t realize it? HAHAHAHAHAHA"

"Silas?! Are you okay?" Chloe asked in worry, but Silas patted her hand and smiled beautifully at her.

"Forgive me for adding another woman on such short notice."

"Huh?"

"The system told me to subdue her because she is a potential partner. I’ve been fighting as a warrior and a hunter, forgetting that I am actually Cupid’s descendant and true heir. I am a conqueror, not a knight."

"Silas..."

"My power is in emotions, feelings, affection, and fate, not collisions and blood. Most of the time."

"But... It’s too late. She has gone crazy."

"Aren’t we all? The crazier, the cuter. Why do you think I chose you, Anna, and Gromda?"

"STOP IGNORING ME!" Echidna suddenly shouted, noticing how Silas had become calm and was even openly flirting with Chloe. She could see the cold girl blushing.

"See?" Silas stood up and tore the rest of the armor from his upper body, along with his tattered shirt, and let them fall into the dirt. His chest was covered in bruises, cuts, and dried blood. His breathing was still ragged, and his mana was almost nonexistent, yet his expression had completely changed.

The exhausted warrior who had been desperately trying to survive was gone. What stood in his place was something far more dangerous. He wore a smile. This was not the reckless grin he usually wore. This one was calm and confident, almost playful.

Echidna’s golden eyes narrowed. "What are you doing?"

Silas tilted his head.

"Winning."

"With that measly amount of your mana?"

"I don’t need much."

Echidna laughed.

"Your arrogance is impressive."

"Thank you."

"It wasn’t a compliment."

"I know."

Silas took one step forward, causing Echidna’s expression to harden. She prepared to attack, but Silas didn’t move again. Instead, something invisible spread through the battlefield, a subtle pressure. It was a sensation that slipped beneath the skin and touched something far deeper.

Echidna’s smile slowly disappeared.

"What..."

Silas’s eyes glowed brighter.

"Smooth Talker."

[Skill activated]

His voice became strangely compelling. It was not loud or deep, but just... impossible to ignore.

"You’ve been fighting me because you thought you had to prove something." Echidna stared at him, and he continued, showing no fear or hesitation. "But you’ve already proven it."

Her pupils contracted.

"You survived everything I threw at you."

He took another step.

"You broke my defenses."

Another.

"You pushed me to the point where I had to use my first wing."

Echidna’s breathing became slightly heavier.

"And you made me realize something." Silas smiled. "I don’t actually want to kill you."

Echidna’s eyes narrowed.

"You think words will stop me?"

"No." Silas raised his hand. "Authority."

The pink symbol of Cupid appeared behind him, causing a wave of invisible power to sweep across the battlefield. Echidna’s body stiffened.

The military and hunter vehicles that were rushing towards the observatory felt a strong and powerful pressure slam into them. It made them stop moving against their will. No one could even turn their head.

They felt an aura like no other. This aura wasn’t that of a predator or the presence of death. This was the aura of a being that held authority over the simplest and most basic emotions. This was the aura of something that compelled you to do this, and you couldn’t refute.

This was the aura of something beyond a king.

They felt the presence of a being who would never accept only one thing, but more. They saw a Conqueror.

And the Conqueror was currently conquering one of the most dangerous monsters in all of history and myth, so much so that she even became a legend.
