Stefan shook his head as he looked back at the map. "I originally thought the name Street-Level sounded weak, but that monster can already destroy a street from a distance. I can’t even imagine how strong it will be when we’re closer to it."
He looked at Alex before continuing, "I would have liked to help you, Alex, but I’m sorry. My faction would only become a burden to you in a fight like this."
"It’s fine," Alex replied.
Alex exchanged a few more words with Stefan before finally leaving the building with his team. There was no reason to waste more time, especially if the Street-Level Boss was already near the school.
The group moved through the streets in formation. Alex remained in the center with Rae, Charlotta, and Zach’s family, while Tina, Robert, and Ophelia stayed at the front, with Zach, Kevin, Ben, and Edward guarding the rear.
If only stats were considered, Ben and Edward were actually stronger than almost everyone else in the group. Both were Level 10 in their normal rank, while their Species Ranks were Level 5 and Level 6 respectively, but their actual combat ability was still relatively poor.
Alex planned to change that.
There was another reason he wanted Ben and Edward to become stronger. Since they had come from Easy Difficulty and were already in contact with the natives of the Land of Origin, they could potentially provide Alex with a great deal of useful information.
Of course, there were still several problems to solve first. Ben and Edward would need to learn the languages of the natives or obtain a reliable translator, and they would also need enough strength for the natives to take them seriously.
It would take time, but Alex planned to complete this task properly. For now, however, there was a much more immediate problem waiting for them.
The group continued moving until they eventually reached the outside of the Jaelo Supermart. Alex slowed down slightly as he looked at the building, remembering the possibility he had mentioned earlier.
The older twin, Caleb, looked at him and asked, "Big bro, you said this Supermart might be a dungeon, right?"
"Yes," Alex replied as he looked toward the entrance.
"So, was it because of the dungeon’s Origin Energy that the building didn’t fall in earthquake? Maybe the dungeon’s Origin Energy made the walls stronger. The Dungeon’s Origin Energy must be also why the Wild Orc’s Origin Energy couldn’t enter it," Caleb added.
"Yes," Alex said with a nod. He had reached the same conclusion earlier.
"I told you!" Caleb said to his twin, Joshua, with a hint of pride because his guess had turned out to be correct.
His mother lightly scolded him for being too loud and disturbing everyone, forcing Caleb to quiet down while looking slightly embarrassed.
The group continued moving toward the police headquarters. By now, Alex had become familiar with his Advanced Battle Instinct Spell, and getting used to it had been easier than he expected because Will was the foundation of the spell.
Will responded to his thoughts even better than mana did. Once Alex became accustomed to controlling it, maintaining the spell no longer required much conscious effort, allowing him to focus on practicing his other spells while keeping Advanced Battle Instinct active.
Alex continued practicing Blood Vitalization Spell as they moved. The spell did not require much active concentration, so it was easy to maintain while doing other things, and the improved mana control from Advanced Battle Instinct had already made the spell considerably more effective.
Mana Sense Spell was much more difficult.
Alex repeatedly sent out his mana pulses while experimenting with the spell. He tried imbuing Will into the mana rings and then imagined hardening them before expanding them outward, and although he still could not harden the mana perfectly, the partial effect was enough to make the rings maintain their shape over a longer distance without losing their ability to expand. If he could harden mana perfectly with mana, this couldn’t have been possible.
Alex had finally found a way to make use of his imperfect control over Will. It was somewhat amusing that something he had initially considered a weakness could now be used to improve the spell, and he could feel his proficiency increasing rapidly as he continued practicing.
Mana Sense Spell would soon reach Level 10.
Another mana pulse eventually reached the police headquarters, and Alex’s brows creased slightly when he sensed the area. The others noticed his reaction and became tense as well, even though they still could not see the headquarters themselves.
"Why is there no noise? With the headquarters so close, shouldn’t we be hearing the police fighting or something else?" Rose, Zach’s wife, muttered.
No one immediately answered her.
The group soon reached the police headquarters, and the reason for the silence became obvious. The building had been brutally damaged, with sections of its walls destroyed and debris scattered around the area, while monster corpses and human corpses covered the ground.
It was clear that a large battle had taken place there.
The Gene Potentials dropped by the monsters were still scattered around the area, which was somewhat surprising at first. Alex quickly realized that the monsters probably had not remained after the battle because the Wild Orcs must’ve appeared nearby, forcing the surviving monsters to flee.
Rae clicked her tongue as she looked at the ruined headquarters. "It looks pretty simple when you think about it. The police probably opened fire when the monsters attacked, and all the noise attracted more and more monsters until the battle became too large for them to handle."
She paused briefly before continuing, "Eventually, everyone here died, and whoever managed to survive probably ran away. Anyway, let’s search the place. I might be able to find some good guns."
"Yes, let’s do that," Alex said with a nod.
The group began searching the area and collecting anything useful they could find. There were weapons, shields, ammunition, and other equipment scattered around, and because the police had clearly been fighting intensely, many of the guns were still lying in open areas.
Alex repeatedly used Mana Sense Spell while they searched. He wanted to make certain there were no monsters hiding inside the headquarters, and this doubled as training.
Once he was satisfied that the area outside was safe, he entered the building ahead of everyone else.
