That would also explain the Titan Reef Crab dungeon.

The strongest monster had been located deep inside the dungeon rather than near the entrance, or anywhere else. The Origin Energy was more concentrated toward the deepest part, so the leader Titan Reef Crab could have been staying there because it was able to absorb more of it.

If that was true, then dungeons were extremely important to monsters.

That would explain why a Wild Orc had been near Jaelo Supermart. The problem was the leader of the Wild Orcs, because it was clearly intelligent enough to understand that Alex and the others needed to be killed before they could absorb the Gene Potentials left behind by defeated Wild Orcs.

Someone that intelligent should also understand the importance of a dungeon. It should have received information about the Jaelo Supermart dungeon from the Wild Orc stationed there, so why had it not gone there itself?

’What did the leader find that was more important than the Jaelo Supermart dungeon?’ he wondered.

Alex’s expression became serious as he considered the possibilities. Whatever the leader had discovered, it had apparently been important enough to keep it occupied, which could explain why it had not sent Wild Orcs after them, nor fired more spears.

Normally, that would have been good news.

But Alex could not help wondering about what it might mean for his sister’s high school. If the leader had found something more important than a dungeon, then whatever had caught its attention could potentially be far more dangerous than he had initially assumed.

His thoughts were interrupted when the Wild Orc finally revealed itself.

The monster was almost as tall as a two-and-a-half-story building, making it significantly smaller than the two Wild Orcs they had encountered before, but it was still an enormous creature. Its body was covered in powerful muscles, and even from a distance, Alex could tell that it possessed considerable physical strength.

Alex prepared a Mana Bullet.

He planned to use Mana Bullet instead of Fire Bullet because he wanted to train the spell and increase its proficiency. Before he could launch the attack, however, Tina spoke.

"What do you think that monster’s level is?"

"Not more than Level 14," Alex replied after observing the Wild Orc carefully. He compared its movements and muscle structure with the other Wild Orcs he had encountered before, then estimated its strength based on those differences.

Tina looked at the monster for a moment before saying, "Then let us fight it."

Alex paused and turned toward her.

Ophelia was already holding her shield and preparing herself, while Rae held her sniper rifle. It seemed that the three of them had already decided that they would fight before Alex had even given them permission.

Alex’s first instinct was to refuse.

A Level 14 Wild Orc was extremely dangerous, and although this one was weaker than the two previous Wild Orcs, that did not mean it was something they could fight casually. Alex had deliberately avoided asking them to participate because he knew that one mistake could cost them their lives.

However, he reconsidered.

Tina was Level 7 in her normal rank and Level 6 in Species Rank. Her stats were far beyond what an ordinary Level 10 Ascendant should possess. Ophelia’s stats were lower, yet her actual combat ability was surprisingly close to Tina’s because of her Predictive Reflex Technique, and her good control of Aura.

Rae was also not someone Alex could ignore. Her aim was almost impeccable, and with a sniper rifle in her hands, she could contribute significantly even if she could not fight the Wild Orc directly.

The rest of the team probably could not participate in the battle, but these three genuinely had a chance against a Level 14 Wild Orc. Alex knew that, but he had not asked them to fight because he understood just how dangerous it would be.

A Level 14 Wild Orc was plenty capable of killing them if they made a mistake, and Alex did not want someone to lose their life simply because they wanted to prove they could contribute.

"Let us fight, Alex. We are coming with you because we are a team, and if you keep protecting us, we will only become baggage. That is the opposite of what a team is supposed to be," Tina said.

"The Wild Orc will be dangerous even if it is only Level 14. I cannot guarantee that I will be able to save all of you if something goes wrong suddenly, so you need to understand the risk before you decide," Alex replied.

Tina fell silent after hearing that.

After a few seconds, however, she looked toward the Wild Orc again and said, "I’m willing to take the risk. The world has gone to hell, and there is no way I can become strong enough to protect myself if I keep running away from difficult battles."

Alex looked into her eyes, trying to determine whether she was serious. Her expression remained firm. He turned toward Ophelia, who had a similar determination in her eyes, and then finally looked at Rae.

"Fine. If you can move under the Wild Orc’s Origin Energy, you can fight," Alex said.

Everyone waited for the Wild Orc’s Origin Energy to reach them. Alex noticed that Kevin was also preparing himself to join the fight, and the young man had become much quieter after realizing that there was a high probability of the Street-Level Boss being near his sister’s high school.

Then the Origin Energy finally reached the police headquarters.

A suffocating pressure spread through the building, and everyone immediately froze. Nobody could move, and even breathing became difficult as the Wild Orc’s Origin Energy pressed down on them.

Alex, however, was surprised to find that he could move easily without even using mana at high intensity. It took him a moment to understand why, but then the answer suddenly became obvious.

Will.

His Will was acting as a shield.

That was when several things finally clicked for Alex. The reason his mana could not easily invade living beings was because they possessed Will, and their Will naturally protected them even when they were not consciously trying to resist his mana.
