Sia’s expression remained serious as she considered the possibility, because if Alex was right, then the Wild Orc leader was focused on something far more important than the dungeon.
Alex thought about it for another moment before looking ahead. There were several possibilities, but none of them had enough evidence behind them for him to be certain, so there was little point in continuing to guess.
"Let’s continue moving. I have a few theories, and they should be answered when we encounter more Wild Orcs," Alex said.
The group became tense at his words. Nobody complained or stopped moving, but everyone clearly understood what it meant if Alex was right and they encountered more Wild Orcs. They continued through the ruined streets at a steady pace, remaining alert after their earlier discussion about the Wild Orc leader.
The silence continued until a loud noise suddenly echoed through the area, sounding as though something extremely heavy had fallen onto the ground. Everyone immediately became serious and moved toward the source of the sound, while Alex, who had already sensed what had happened through his Mana Sense Spell, frowned and moved ahead of the group.
They soon reached a road where several enormous bodies were lying across the ground. Even from a distance, two of them were clearly Wild Orc corpses, while Alex could sense another corpse that was partially hidden from view.
He only needed one glance to confirm that there were three Wild Orcs in total, and for a moment, nobody in the group spoke as they realized that someone had killed all three of them.
The realization was shocking because even one Wild Orc was enough to make Alex’s group cautious, yet three of them had been killed here.
Alex remained calm as he examined the corpses, trying to determine what had happened and whether the killer was still nearby. Just then, something moved from inside one of the Wild Orcs, immediately drawing his attention.
A human figure suddenly pushed his way out through the Wild Orc’s chest. The man was covered in blood and the creature’s innards, with his own red blood mixed together with the Wild Orc’s dark green blood across his body, while his right arm was bent at an awkward angle and numerous cuts covered his skin. His clothes were ripped and barely hanging from his body, and blood was flowing heavily from several wounds.
The man’s eyes were unfocused, making it seem as though he was barely conscious, but he suddenly seemed to sense something and slowly turned his head toward Alex’s group.
Their eyes met, and Alex immediately noticed the man’s muscles tense as his entire body shifted into a fighting stance. The man jumped down from the Wild Orc’s chest and landed on the road before suddenly dashing toward Alex.
His speed was extremely fast, almost making it seem as though he had appeared directly in front of Alex. It was comparable to the speed of the mid-rank species Jade Scythe Mantis, and the man’s eyes were filled with extreme fury as he stepped forward, bent his knee, and punched toward Alex’s head.
The attack was wild and fast enough that an ordinary person would have had almost no chance of reacting to it.
Alex simply tilted his head because he had already observed the man’s muscles and understood where the attack would land. The punch passed beside his ear, whipping his hair violently as Alex tried to speak before the man could attack again. "Hey, calm down. I’m not a monster, so there’s no reason for you to—"
Before Alex could finish, the man’s extended hand opened and grabbed the side of Alex’s head, immediately trying to smash him sideways into the ground.
Alex activated his Advanced Body Reinforcement Spell, and endless strength surged through his body, allowing him to remain completely steady despite the man’s attempt to force him down.
The man changed his attack almost instantly while keeping his grip on Alex’s head, raising his knee and kicking upward toward him.
Alex moved first, striking the man’s knee with his palm before the attack could reach its full swing and strength, forcing the leg back toward the ground.
"I said calm down," Alex said as he looked at the man.
His palm moved again and struck the man’s chest with tremendous force. Alex felt the distinctive sensation of ribs breaking beneath his palm, but he did not stop because his Advanced Battle Instinct Spell was calculating every movement with ruthless efficiency.
The man’s first punch could have killed Alex if his reaction had not been fast enough, and even after that attack, Alex had still tried to talk to him, but the man had chosen to attack again.
Alex had given him two chances, which was more than enough.
The man’s ribs shattered from the front as his body was sent flying backward, rolling across the road before crashing into an abandoned car.
Alex moved after him almost immediately, creating a mana sword in his hand as he appeared beside the fallen man, with the blade positioned near his neck in case he tried to attack again. However, the man was already unconscious, and blood was leaking from his mouth after Alex had shattered a large portion of his ribs.
"Roan!"
"Don’t kill him!"
Two distinct shouts reached Alex’s ears from the nearby building. A young man and a young girl rushed outside, and Alex felt that the young man was somewhat familiar, although he could not remember where he had seen him before.
He created a mana bullet and aimed it toward them, making the nature of his warning clear enough that both of them immediately froze.
Alex continued pointing the mana sword at the unconscious man while keeping the mana bullet aimed at the two newcomers.
After confirming they were with the unconscious man, he focused his senses on the surrounding buildings and quickly detected several more humans hiding nearby, many of whom were arguing about whether they should come out and whether doing so would put them in danger.
